Nice video!!! I seen some speed engineering ones I want to get for my 94' Camaro. They're slip fit. Any advantages having a flange on the ends of the headers? I know hookee has some that's made with them. Trying to find a y pipe though. Really want to do this once for at least 5 years. It's a obd1 I've read some things that I wouldn't need a tune and so forth.
@HorsepowerTube

Flange isn't really an advantage over anything else, it's just nice to have some way to disconnect it easily when doing engine work. You won't have to tune to delete the cats but you may want to tune to add fuel.

@@HorsepowerTube Thanks for the reply! Since mine is a 94' and being a obd1 system I've read that deleting the egr won't throw any codes? Since there isn't a 02 sensor past the cat? Thanks for the advice!

@Vend Master on this it wasn't bad because it already had shorty headers on it. But usually I'm scared that they will break off so I heat them all up with an oxy-acetelyne torch. It's alot easier to do that than to fix a broken one. Then I use arp bolts to reinstall. They will never break and the head won't strip when you tighten them. Not crazy expensive either.

@@HorsepowerTube do you have the part number for the rear main seal??? I'm finding that if I google it I get several different seals.
@HorsepowerTube
3 жыл бұрын
Rock auto is a good source for part numbers. Rear main is not so easy bc you have to remove the whole transmission. If you have to ask seems like it might be a bit out of your league. Going to need a trans jack, going to have to get the car pretty far off the ground. The seal itself isn't so bad. Just make sure you install it evenly and carefully. Probably should do oil pan gasket too. I find that easiest to support the engine with a brace across the strut towers and drop the k member. These are all very heavy components and can be dangerous if you don't understand what you're doing. I wouldnt try it unless you have a good understanding.

@@HorsepowerTube thanks I'll check rock auto. I already have the 4l60e removed and rebuilt it myself. Lol. I just kept finding different part numbers for the same part. 🤷 I have a 97 so alot of times I run I to the transition year issue. Where manufacturers/sellers say it's for 97 but then I find out it's for a ls1 98+ 😒. Hardest part of removing the trans was removing the exhaust. Because I used the cheap clamps instead of band clamps. What an absolute nightmare that was, even with a torch... but The trans removal itself was surprisingly easy. I'm debating if I should just go ahead and do longtube headers/y pipe while I have trans out. $232 from ebay. (Speed engineering ones.)but I'm worried about the oem manifold bolts breaking off.

I'm pretty sure all 87+ gen 1&2 small blocks use the same 1 piece rear main seal. Obviously LS motors are a different beast. I usually use timken or acdelco seals. You can do long tubes. But I'd use that torch on every bolt. Why chance breaking one if you have a torch available. I'd go back together with arp or perhaps a locking fastener. They're not very expensive but really nice to have some that won't round off or break.

Hey man, did you have to run egr block off plates since the original ones are mounted to the exhaust manifolds
@HorsepowerTube
4 жыл бұрын
Since there is no provision for egr, you would have to remove it from the tune, and remove the tube that went to the exhaust manifold. If you delete it in the tune or unplug the valve you don't have to block it off, just make sure to leave the valve mounted to the intake but disconnected. The valve is normally closed and will not let the engine suck air unless it tries coming on because it was left hooked up. Alternatively you can remove the EGR valve and block it off which would look cleaner, not that anyone would really notice.
