    How does the oil pump run and the just happen to have a distributor gear on that cam?🤷🏽

  • @HorsepowerTube
    @HorsepowerTube29 күн бұрын

    Yes the distributor gear is necessary to turn the oil pump. Stock it has a short dummy shaft that looks like the bottom of a distributor. Which can be swapped out for an actual distributor.

    How did you know that your cam was bad what symptoms were you having and are the tapets are bad I have an issue right now I started to have an issue with a my injection pump to wear the number one delivery valve was working intermittently ordered a rebuild kit for the pee pump but there's a lot more to it than just seals and aluminum little cups that you tap into the thing there's a lot you have to know about it show Ray shortly after that the thing started to develop a check and low oil pressure to where it sounds like it's coming from the middle of the engine I'm going to be doing piston rings I already got a new head new head gasket and I'm going to do rod main bearings also while I'm in there with wrist pin bearings for the rods haven't replaced the oil cooler yet but I'm planning on doing that too but I was thinking about going with a heavy duty push rod brand new tablets in a brand new cam just to be on the safe side I had a valve spring that broke it dropped the valve but it didn't destroy the piston and ever since that happened shortly after it's developed low oil pressure and a tick I wouldn't think that that happening would cause low oil pressure unless that was meaning to go anywayit had high miles on the truck over 400,000 me now but I originally had about three something on it when I bought it close to 5 years ago when I pulled the head off the day prior it says standard on the Piston so somebody's either put pistons and rings in it I don't know what else they've done but just to be on the safe side I figured I might as well throw a cam in it too Samsung fixing everything else let me know what your thoughts are and also the cam bearing should I replace them and could I be getting that rattler tick from them Cam bearing if one of them is bad thanks a lot

  • @HorsepowerTube
    @HorsepowerTubeАй бұрын

    I didn't have any symptoms. I noticed wear when I took it apart. If you're having low oil pressure that would be from a worn oil pump or more likely excessive bearing clearances from 400k miles. You could try putting a fresh pump on it. Probably just needs a full rebuild. Or grab a 1-200k motor off someone for cheap. There are plenty around. As far as ppump goes I would have a shop rebuild it. There's alot of very expensive tools you're not going to have to make sure it's working properly such as flow benching the pump. Use yours as a core on a rebuilt one.

    I've followed your build for the last 2 or 3 years. I have been determined to take the baton from you and keep pushing the limitations if I can. I have a 96 215 pump 3500 dually 2wd nv4500. Right now I am high 13's on my truck with street tires. 3.73 rear stock tire diameter 215 pump 4k's max travel kit no fuel plate 191 DV's 5x14's Modded mechanical lift pump/plumbing 60/67/12 hx hybrid that I built after seeing your videos A single disk ceramic that you recommended to me 2 or 3 years ago I'm dyno'd at 531hp 1201tq she peaks at 45psi and 1600 degrees in 5th gear my best run is 13.88 I'm adding 2 massively wide single slicks instead of my 4 Michelin street tires. Also S&B cold air, upgraded intercooler, air horn, and 50/50 meth. Come hell or high water I will break 12's. As a last resort I will move to a 62mm compressor. I want to keep spool time as quick as I can while still breaking into the 12's Btw I have put that ceramic single through the ringer. I pulled almost a 20k lb camper a couple months ago. Once you get used to it this clutch is great and has no practicality-oriented limitations once you learn it. Great clutch. Thanks for the recommendation

    I wonder if there is an easy way to add a 2nd pump to this setup. Looks like the only difficult part would be the wiring since they use lug terminals through the hat.

    Have been going back and forth on this clutch or the sb dual disc. This video made me buy the ceramic for my nv5600. I have put ceramic in tractors in the past but had to pull them out due the drivers having a hard time with them hopefully it works out for my daily driven pickup. I tow about 4-5 times a year usually 5-7k range.

    Don’t you need some type of gear on the camshaft to run the distributor or does the LT1 has that as standard?

  • @HorsepowerTube
    @HorsepowerTube5 ай бұрын

    Lt1 has a little shaft in there like the bottom of a distributor. It's required to run the oil pump. Cam has same gear as any SBC. You can remove the small shaft and use an actual distributor like any older small block.

    I wonder if people who use there car could put several of the bucket, flip lid traps around where they park would stop them. Of course water will freeze in winter but you could still trap them. I use one in our garage and it will not catch any thing and them you get 4 or 5 at once.🦇

    I live in Tennessee and we have field mice here bad. I’ve seen these things jump at least a foot from the ground to get into the engine compartment of my 4 w d truck! I’ve tried everything and nothing works except to physically find every possible opening where they can get in, and close it off. In fact just this past spring a mouse had gotten under the manifold of my truck and chewed the wiring. It cost me $2,800.00 to get this repaired at the dealership. Peppermint oil doesn’t work!
