Lt. General Ben Hodges (Ret.) | Are the US’ and Europe’s security interests growing apart?

Does social media distort the reality of war or bring us closer than ever to it? Would the NATO alliance hold in case of an incursion in Northern Finland? Is such an incursion likely? Is there a significant chance of the US not guaranteeing European security in the longer term, as it has before? These are some of the many questions we had the honor to ask Ben Hodges, a retired three star general in the United States Armed Forces, as well as the former commanding general of the United States Army Europe. I hope you enjoy the episode.

I've been saying this for months!! There are so many retired, relatively young, generals & colonels with so much experience in the military & allied cooperation in many countries, giving them an overall insight on world politics, and highly respected by their troops & civilians alike. Why can't they run for office & do what is needed for their constituents & country, which they will see as their duty? If they don't wanna run for a party they can form a 3rd party to counter both MAGA & the Dems. How tf can politicians & judges work into their eighties & respected military leaders who still have their full faculties and can still give great service for several years, have to retire from military service when they are still relatively young?? It just doesn't make sense! You guys really must overhaul your entire political and justice systems, cos for the last several months (even years!) you have relegated yourselves to Banana Republic status who doesn't have ANY RIGHT to EVEN COMMENT on what's happening ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!!! You are DIRECTLY responsible for whatever happens in Ukraine & you will suffer huge casualties when Putin attacks your NATO allies & you will be FORCED to enter the war (after blocking weapons supply & helping to defeat Russia once & for all), which you will never accept & so wont even last as long as Ukraine has done before you beg for peace!!! Do the right thing now America!!! Civil War IS COMING TO YOU AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WHETHER TRUMP WINS OR NOT!!! So WAKE THE F UP NOW & get rid of them once & for all. Grow some balls & do the right thing!!! God is looking down on YOU & I really don't think he is very impressed!! Great respect for Ben & his respected colleagues!! You guys should be running America!!! SLAVA UKRAINI!!!

We need a conversation about eastern/central European countries using their air defense to protect at least western Ukraine from air missile attacks. The US could provide antiaircraft missiles or some rearmament to patriots/NASAMS when AA missile inventory gets low. Then Ukraine could concentrate on air defense from Kyiv to the east. Israel’s surrounding allies are doing this. I see no difference with Ukraine. General Hodges interviews are the best. It’s great to hear an intelligent and pragmatic American expert who can communicate cogent thoughts and arguments regarding Ukraine’s continued strength and optimism for victory. I also love his choices in art particularly the Caravaggio book over the Vermeer book there by his left shoulder. Hodges for president, speaker of the house and supreme court justice!!! He could do it all.

The question asked were new, great, and have need to have been asked for a while. Which in turn gave the viewers some new insights into just how awesome Mr. Hodges is. So I have subbed, but I am an American so it seems like there is not a lot of content that I can comprehend. Another American that has a clue that you could interview would be Malcolm Nance. Mr. Nance does a lot of interviews so in the spirit of this interview, where new questions where asked, would be very interesting. And as Mr. Hodges seemed to react, refreshingly new.

When I read the name Ben Hodges in the title of a video I always always watch it. Now that youtube, social media and the political scene (our leaders) are a chaos, listening to Ben Hodges is extremely pleasant. A mix of big knowledge, common sense, strength, clarity, well mannered and good communication skills. People like him are very needed in this crazy world we are living these days. I wish he would occupy a very relevant position, military or political, or at least that our leaders would listen to him.

General Hodges has replied back with yet another, incredible and brilliant interview! He should, in the next Presidential election run for himself. He undoubtedly was involved with these kind of issues during his military career, and would not had reached the honorable rank of being a General, if he had not earned it! His intelligence, training skills, and dedication of serving in the armed Forces is commendably amazing!! Thank you for his interview, and you General Hodges.🇺🇸

As for the shock of destruction. Looking at a photo, as opposed to being on the ground, with the smell and the scale of destruction. Photos do help, but being there is better. Anyway, we owe it- - to keep watching and listening and reading. We are in luxury in compare. Mr B Hodges talks sense from all the way back to the start.

Some of these retired US Generals have given some excellent speeches and analysts such as General Hodges here. Glad to see that there are still smart and wise thinking men in high places of power in the US. Putin must be stopped in Ukraine or the US will have to come to fight land war in Europe for the 3rd time, unless we want to witness the total collapse of the Western civilized democracy. The same thing will mostly happen with China some time in the future in Asia.

What does it matter what retired generals or anyone not directly advising Biden think? As long as Jake Sullivan is there, Biden remains timid and the Kremlin-influenced bottleneck remains in Congress Ukraine will not get the aid it should from the US. Ukraine is trying to reduce it's dependence on foreign sources, so hopefully things will improve over time.

As an "average" American, many of us feel like why should we subsidize European security, when the Europeans haven't been taking their own security seriously enough to at least live up to their commitment to at least paying their 2%. In addition, Europeans enjoy Universal Healthcare, something Americans have to do without. So basically, we are subsidizing Europen defense and healthcare at our expense.
