There was nothing hateful in that article. A bigoted or misogynistic article would never get published by a major newspaper like the LA Times. Iowa women's basketball represents everything that's right with college athletics (four-year players who were recruited as high schoolers and stayed committed, blue collar work ethic despite not having as many McDonald's All Americans as other teams, adhering to fundamental basketball and its principles), and Caitlin Clark and her teammates have created a cultural phenomenon comparable to Michigan's Fab Five.

The have to do what everyone else does in social media....say something crazy to get clicks an attention. But you're right, the game will break records and promote women's sports without all the ugliness. Especially if all the ugliness is directed at one team. If a lot of white people innately root for Iowa and a lot of Black people root for LSU, that's fine, we did that that with Magic vs. Bird back in the day, and it was a good time, and never got ugly off the court. With Bird's talent, there was no need trash Magic or make him a villain. But just let everybody make cheer for who they want for whatever reasons are in their head, just let everybody enjoy the game.

Part of the problem is that college players are still referred to as: "kids". Women's and Men's hoopsters in the NCAA. These are young WOMEN and MEN. Young, but not kids. So, I'll criticize Coach Mulkey here for unwittingly referring to her adult players as pre-teens. The TV commentators do it. Time to update the descriptor. She'd probably tell me she doesn't mean it literally. OK, fine, but it still sounds ridiculous, then we wonder why our "kids" don't act more mature on and off the courts. ( Not saying ALL players. ) Address them in a way that welcomes them into greater maturity.

Thank You L.S.U. thank you Kim Mulkey, and Thank you Angel Reese for bringing so much attention to Well Played Fundamentally Sound College Women Basketball. The NCAA, The Media, and The Networks are Extremely Grateful. Non of these guys would have anything to write about, or speak about on talk shows if it were not because of you. That is true. I think they are definitely outsized. But, as shown in the Colorado game, Iowa did pretty well on Colorado's leading scorer, which was their 6' 4" inside player.

And at any given moment can pull mac off the bench and go super big putting morrow and reese on the wings with ethier poa and Johnson on the arc. Having likely flau'jae gaurd clark. @@coolmoe3289 hey, now, you're forgetting the LSU has a number two scoring offense in the country. So they have offense, too. I have a lot of respect for them, even though I live in Iowa City 🙂 🙂. Everybody knows they had growing pains in the beginning of the year, but they have slowly gotten better and better. Of course I will be upset if Iowa loses, but I've been pretty satisfied with how far they've come, being 32-4 especially after losing their post player from last year.

Iowa's defense was really good.

I don't know what the NCAA tournament organizers were thinking-- I think they were too overwhelmed by the Pac-12. Now the Pac-12 has only one team left.

Couple of ways to look at it. I felt like they didn't wanna risk someone losing and there be no match-up in the final four or 8. So why not break the ratings record early on since it would happen anyway. Would be mega ratings in the finals game or even semi's but too much risk in getting no match up at all..... but conversely, if this was a finals game, every male sports fan would be tuning in, it would be one of the most watched games in sports history.....
