LS3 LLoves cam's and boost. True words, My LS3 with LS9 cam and AGP twins made 605 at the wheels with low 15deg timing on pump 93. I feel the heads are a huge factor in these making so much power. I've seen several tests with the different heads in the LS family. What I would like to see is the new LT heads, if you Tig the Injector port closed and mount them on the LS family, they are said to out flow even the 823 heads stock. I was told by a head shop the stud pattern is the same.
Richard, you deserve an award for sharing this information. Thanks! Also first!!!!! Lolololol. One suggestion, add the cost to each power band so we can see if it is just easier and more cost effective to go to a whirly Boi

i love your content!! have been watching you nonstop for the last 2 days :'D definitely makes me want to build my ls lol
I know this is “ls how to” but I’d like to see the same thing with a small block and big block Chevy. Another video idea “should you build a big block or ls for your hot rod?” I’d like to see a dollar per horsepower comparison at a few different horsepower levels.
Appreciate it all these wisdom Richard!! My 5.7L going be turnt up!
Thanks for throwing in that 5.7♥️
I think that 4.8 is a killer combo, if the 5.3 had the same top end as the 4.8 I bet it would have made at least 500 with more average power. If you look close you can see that the 4.8 didn’t loose any low end
Back in 2008, I used Dart heads on my LS1 with a too big cam from Futral. With the LS6 intake, ported stock TB, catted longtubes, Borla catback, SLP lid, 4.10 gears, and tune I made 430 rwhp. I ran 121 mph on street tires. Lesson learned, check Dart's valve guides as mine were junk brand new and after pulling them and getting them resleeved as it was drinking a quart of oil every 1,000 miles, it spun a rod bearing on the subsequent re-tuning pull.
I think I found my new favorite channel...
Good info. Thanks for including ls1
your channel is friggin excellent !!!!
😄 thanks for the chuckle in the first few seconds of the vid!
Great video, currently running the 54-459-11 cam in my 2005 gto. Now that I know my approximated hp and torque, I'll work on the tune to smooth out the Knock. Too much timing probably. Thanks for the great videos with useful information

Our daily dose of LS power combos,,, and most will admit we are waiting for Part 3 ,,,,,,, awesome Videos Rich!
You got me I was panic shopping a summit racing and fuel tech definitely going to need some project parts if I get Corona virus.
Love the intro.
That last comparison screen really makes a point. With enough rpm, a small amount of torque will give you the power, but more cubes means more torque where you’re going to use it on the street. I found it amazing that the 5.7 made the 500 hp with such a small cam. Most 5.3 blocks can take that 3.900 bore, and that might be easier than finding a 6.0... Another amazing presentation! By far my favorite channel.

The torquiest stock 6.0 I ever owned was the 99 3 door 2500, I could smoke the tires through OD in that truck, it ran awesome, it had the cast iron heads, the 191-190* at .050 LM7 5.3 cam, that combo flat worked I'd like to build another one with mildly ported 706/862 5.3 heads, a small aftermarket 206-212 cam with the tbss intake setup just for a high torque truck setup

I'm most impressed how little bore and stroke the 5.7 has over the 5.3 and the power curve is that big of a difference. Always seems like the 5.7 gets overlooked, wish I went that route Instead of 5.3 in my truck

Yes but you saved $2000 on the purchase of the engine
@ShyaMiss
4 жыл бұрын
5.3, 5.7, 6.0, and 6.2 LS engines all share the same stroke. Only the bore changes with each displacement change. I imagine that the higher compression that the ls1 is sporting, as well as the larger bore unshrouding the valves a bit more, are the likely factors in its dramatic difference vs the 5.3. Since many 5.3 blocks can take an over bore to reach the ls1 bore, building an iron block ls1 is a pretty straight forward process.

You are a true genius for making these vids! I appreciate you and your work!
Richard stated that putting the motor in a car will drop 100hp from his dyno. So having 500hp would be a bare min in my mind.
@romero.4089
4 жыл бұрын
So if you want 400 hp use this video. If 500 then use the 600 hp video and so on and that’s exactly what I was thinking
Great stuff! No one else does it like this, you are the man Richard! How about a comparison of the "truck" cams. I just put a BTR stage 1 truck cam in my 5.3. It runs great, but have no idea of "the numbers" it is making. The 400, 500, 600 etc combos are great,but at what point on these combinations, would I be needing a torq converter and or gears? Getting ready to build another 88-98 Chevy pickup with a 5.3. Based on ease of tuning and a target around 450-500, would you go n/a over turbo? Thanks again for putting out such great material.
Perfect thinking on stopping the corona virus, also! I’ll be working on getting my egt’s up so the air will be purified

I just picked up a LY2 for my E36 Project, I'm gonna send the heads over too TEA for their Stage 2 CNC along with Hollow Stem Valves and hopefully milling the head down to 58 to 60cc and use 0.027 headgaskets. I also plan on running Brian Tooleys Custom Road Race Cam which is a 235/250 113+4 lsa .614/.605. I'm on the fence whether I should stick with the TBSS style intake or pick up a Holley Hi-Ram
gonna light the wick on an LS1 with SS2 cam, 706 heads, and 11.1:1 compression. gon be fun!
I would love to see a combo once you get to the 700hp or 800hp mark all motor 6.2L with a 4.8L crank and punched out to a 6.0L or at least close to it, 13.5:1 or higher running on 706 heads ported and polished on e85.

Just awesome content Richard. The 5.3 in my '91 C1500 just dynoed at 305tq/308hp at the wheels. It has a TBSS intake, Texas Speed 224R cam, PAC beehives, mid length headers, Terminator X ecu, Tremec TKO600. In your opinion, would the Texas Speed/PRS Stage 2.5 porting and having the block freshened to 5.898 bore and pistons be a good route to 500 at the wheels? Maybe a different cam too?
This should be interesting for my ford build ...321 cubic inch sbf 4.125 x 3.00 stroke ported trickflow 170s flowing 292 at .650 and 218 @650 running a comp nx282 232/244 int/exh and .565/580 but with a 1.72 rr which makes 607 intake .623 exhaust. Only issue is stock compression 9.1 but im looking to make 365 wheel hp in a 94 mustang gt similar cam specs. For induction 90mm throttlebody and trickflow box r.
What about 4.8 flat tops in a 5.3? Worth the hassle? When will clearance become an issue? Easy 500hp from a 5.3?
