LS3 LLoves cam's and boost. True words, My LS3 with LS9 cam and AGP twins made 605 at the wheels with low 15deg timing on pump 93. I feel the heads are a huge factor in these making so much power. I've seen several tests with the different heads in the LS family. What I would like to see is the new LT heads, if you Tig the Injector port closed and mount them on the LS family, they are said to out flow even the 823 heads stock. I was told by a head shop the stud pattern is the same.

Back in 2008, I used Dart heads on my LS1 with a too big cam from Futral. With the LS6 intake, ported stock TB, catted longtubes, Borla catback, SLP lid, 4.10 gears, and tune I made 430 rwhp. I ran 121 mph on street tires. Lesson learned, check Dart's valve guides as mine were junk brand new and after pulling them and getting them resleeved as it was drinking a quart of oil every 1,000 miles, it spun a rod bearing on the subsequent re-tuning pull.

That last comparison screen really makes a point. With enough rpm, a small amount of torque will give you the power, but more cubes means more torque where you’re going to use it on the street. I found it amazing that the 5.7 made the 500 hp with such a small cam. Most 5.3 blocks can take that 3.900 bore, and that might be easier than finding a 6.0... Another amazing presentation! By far my favorite channel.

5.3, 5.7, 6.0, and 6.2 LS engines all share the same stroke. Only the bore changes with each displacement change. I imagine that the higher compression that the ls1 is sporting, as well as the larger bore unshrouding the valves a bit more, are the likely factors in its dramatic difference vs the 5.3. Since many 5.3 blocks can take an over bore to reach the ls1 bore, building an iron block ls1 is a pretty straight forward process.

It runs great, but have no idea of "the numbers" it is making. The 400, 500, 600 etc combos are great, but at what point on these combinations, would I be needing a torq converter and or gears? Getting ready to build another 88-98 Chevy pickup with a 5.3. Based on ease of tuning and a target around 450-500, would you go n/a over turbo? Thanks again for putting out such great material.

It has a TBSS intake, Texas Speed 224R cam, PAC beehives, mid length headers, Terminator X ecu, Tremec TKO600. In your opinion, would the Texas Speed/PRS Stage 2.5 porting and having the block freshened to 5.898 bore and pistons be a good route to 500 at the wheels? Maybe a different cam too?

This is great information! How much does the different engine-blocks differ in weight? Is weight proportional to displacement, or more to iron vs aluminium?

On 5.3 with turbo, what's the cheapest way to make 500hp that runs on cheap pump gas using mostly stock parts. I can do cam, springs, and rings, but not looking to spend 1000 on heads

I just found the video I was asking about, comparing truck cams. Off the top of your head, how would the 5.3 compare with headers vs truck manifolds?

You're going to make me change the cam in my truck when it comes time to install the heads and intake manifold... I am still shocked at how well the SS2 did down low. I have an EPS 214/220 .598/.602 111 LSA now. But, have a brand new SS2 on the shelf... FML

Would someone change heads and intake without out upgrading the cam? It would almost me pointless. Don't forget headers.

@@baby-sharkgto4902 - already has "upgraded" parts. EPS truck cam, TBSS intake, and supporting mods. (LT headers and exhaust) However, had plans to swap out the 317s and switch to a FAST LSXRT. Now... might as well change the cam since I have one on the shelf. The SS2 has really done well in these tests.

Hey Richard, great video! You always have great info. Care to make a few suggestions? I have a 2007 corvette ls2 stock motor with CAI. Looking to put on a few parts. Air intake Fast of MSD? Looking for more low end tq. and the 500ish on top end. Long tube headers. No meth or turbo or super charger. Cam package as well. Which would you suggest based on this info? Not interested in most chop chop, must be a good driver without adding torque converter. maybe two steps up from stock. Your suggestion would be much appreciated. Thanks Mike
