You know I thought about calling Mercedes to see if they wanted to put it in the museum but then I realized I don't want this to go to some corporation to sit in museum. I want this car to stay in the private collector community so we can all enjoy it for years to come.
This has to be the newest original W123 in existence! 😂 Absolutely stunning 😍

Unbelievable! Having owned 32 W123/W126 MB in 35 years, I had never seen a "new" W123! Comforting for me was the fact this "new" 300D had a temperature of 90/95c on the gauge and what appeared to be 2.5 oil pressure idling. Even the most astute MB authorities (in my 35 years owning them) have been proven wrong in that it's ok for the temp gauge NOT to be right on 80c and oil level not to be on "2" idling! In fact, Ken B. just did every thing possible to get his 300D temperature from 95c back to exactly 80! Thanks for a historical video, John! Now, every person restoring a W123 has a "guide" to follow!
@woodsandbarclay
7 ай бұрын
Yes the correct operating temperature for these cars is between 80° and 100° and that is stated clearly in the service manual it is perfectly fine for them to run at 95 if you have the air conditioner on and your driving hard uphill that will happen sometimes.
Gosh you and Pierre are so on point for these cars. Amazing.

Great video!! So amazing to step back in time with this vehicle. My dad fell in love MB's during his WW2 service in the US Army. He bought his first 1958 W128 in 1966 and his first new (midnight blue) W115 in 1974 at the same dealership on W 41st in NYC. I was in high school and recall the day like it was yesterday. I detailed that car every week until the oil pump failed and the design that was supposed to kill the fuel pump in the event of said failure only half sheared the pin on the fuel pump so it ran itself to it's death. I was the unfortunate adolescent who was driving it when that happened and sent it to it's grave. We still have a mostly restored 1959 W128 in my dad's barn. My brother has (2) 300TD's, both have seen better days. Thanks so much for this post!

Wow what a car. I think its absolutely great to be able to see a car so many years later and so new, not to mention that guys garage. He would probably drop dead of a heart attack if he saw mine. I'm at a loss to understand how anyone can own a car of any type and not drive and enjoy it, or be afraid to. Sure if you have 30 cars you can't drive them all. There are so many great aspects of a car besides looking at it. A big thanks to woodsandbarclay to inspire me to clean up and try and restore my 1982 engine compartment to "newer" condition. Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, the previous owner oil sprayed the crap out of it. I just looked at it and I got dirty. It took me a very long time cleaning everything up and actually found components I didn't even know there there because they were buried in layers and layers of old oil spray.

@@woodsandbarclay Well as usual you are helpful. It still amazes me the detail in your instructions. You bailed me out this morning showing the worn plastic pieces on my throttle 2 & 3 way and you provided the part #, thank you. Unfortunately I did the cleaning over winter (summer is way too busy) and couldn't use a spray washer, however getting right in there I could inspect everything. I used a steamer and that helped a lot and found 4 small holes in the engine compartment....canadian car. We like our french fries because we have all the salt you would ever want 😝 Keep up the great work!

Wow! Super nice! Once in a lifetime you will find a car like this, a 40 year old car like brandnew. They build the limo and coupe in Stuttgart. The T-Model in Bremen. The Museum in Stuttgart should be interested in that car 😍. I was looking for a nice W123 here in Germany, but ended up buying a 1979 Chevy Monte Carlo with 36500 KM in a very good shape. But the w123/w126 are still my favorite cars. 😇

As much as this would be such a great car to drive as it’s just like buying a new one, BUT it can only be new once. And it’s worth a bazillion dollars in its “new” state. If you want a daily driver, I agree with Pierre, sort a 250k car as a driver. I love driving my 316k mile 300CD, and not worrying about mileage and just keep it as a rolling restoration, and keep it as well sorted and nice as I can.

Of COURSE that IS an extraordinary car. I couldn't quite gather the direction of the video: are you going to broker a sale? Does the owner give you access to the car in order to utilize the scope of your W123 diesel reach to market the car? Or ?
