@@woodsandbarclay in 1983 I had a high school summer job in print mechanic shop. My boss had a new 300 D. Every once in a while he would have me fill it up. I really liked that car. Brings back memories

Pinstripes were always added by the dealerships and Mercedes did not ship the cars with pinstripes.

Did the judges explain why you should not remove the chrome fender trims? I would be concerned about potential rust underneath, not to mention that these weren’t factory original..

There's no rust on a 10,000 mile car that has lived in a garage for the last 40 years. This is the most rust free classic car you'll ever see in your life. But regarding the Mercedes Legends of the Autobahn judges they like to see the cars exactly how the original owners had them. they consider it part of the story tied to the original owner. I agree with you though I think the cars should be put back to exactly how they left the Mercedes factory.

Hello. Because its an original factory US 300D without modifications, I would like to know who was the original manufacturer of the white headlights (Bosch?) and if they have the "E" engraved in the glass, like the yellow fog lights which have the "E" ? I believe that the white headlights were not Bosch, but no one could give me yet an answer on this. Thank you for your help in advance.

Amazing, yes. Obviously you are in business. But are you not more than tempted to keep the very best, probably unrepeatedly, cars?? Never seen a parts guide come with a W123. :-)

Believe me there are a lot of these cars that I want to keep however my joy really comes from fixing the cars. Once I've gone through the cars and sorted them out properly I'm bored and want to do it again so I get another car :)

@@woodsandbarclay Certainly the joy and passion are very clear. And to get these cars "as good as new" is an extraordinary feat. Once they at that standard, use can only cause a degree of "deterioration." But there we are: the tension between use and anesthetics.

Take those nasty nasty ugly chrome wheel trims off. Who cares what those judges say! Make that w123 the way it came from the factory. Those chrome trims are totally aftermarket JUNK and just ruins the look of the car.
