@@woodsandbarclay Keep an eye out, for a low milage Peugeot 505 turbo diesel with a 5 speed transmission.
That was one heck of a road trip! Must been nice viewing of the USA when traveling in the daytime... And those Mud flaps looked cool on there.

Yes it was insanely long drive I was on the road for like 40 hours!!!
Smoke Silver is indeed an amazing color. An '85 only color on W123s too. My 190E was Smoke Silver and it was my favorite thing about the car!

MY fave colour for the 190E is Blue Black. But these things are very subjective of course.
I found one of these in diamond blue right in downtown Atlanta. This was 2003. It was an 85 and had 63k miles. One owner. Retired GaTech grad. It was amazing. Sold on eBay for $14000 back in the day. Paid $5000 for it. My how times have changed

This is completely insane. That car should have 275,000 miles on it. Wow. Just wow.

Hmm... i have a 300D W123 non turbo as a daily drive. It is ... sedate. But one gets accustomed to that. But I wish they had had the turbo model here in South Africa.
Foreign Motors West was part of the dealership that Jay Leno worked at as a kid. His location was the one in Boston not Natick but that dealership holds a ton of clout in the MB community. This might be the lowest mileage all original 300D in the Americas. I really don't think that's hyberbole either. TO have that antifreeze tag is UNHEARD of after any length of time. This car really belongs in a museum.

Holy freaking moonbat! A 10,000 mile 1985 300D is impossible! This fractures the space time continuum! And with a black interior!! Talk about top shelf. I would cut off my pinky to have the money for this one... And then daily drive it as a new vehicle for the rest of my life! No joke. Forget about making it a garage queen. Remove those wheels and tires (since they are original), buy replacements and drive drive drive. :-) In fact, I'd say 15 inch BBS baskets are in order, since you have superior tire choices. But who am I kidding? Someone with fat stacks is going to grab this and make it a museum peice.

Beautiful car. OT: If memory serves me correctly, Jay Leno worked at that dealership when he was starting out as a comic. At the time Foreign Motors sold MB & Rolls. Wonder what ever happened to Jay since those days. 😊

I've heard you mention zinc plating on the engine components, but I've always thought it was gold cad plated from the factory. Are you sure factory used gold zinc and not gold cadmium? In any case, I've been watching your videos since you started with the OM617 rebuild. I bought a 16k mile 300D a few years ago, but it was in an accident hence the decades long storage with rodent damage to wiring and body repairs to repair the accident damage. Now it has 28k miles, and I drive it frequently since it'll never be a pristine original car. But mechanicals and the interior are about as good as it gets. But this car is on a whole other level! What a great owner to have preserved this beautiful car. Never seen smoke silver on black. Congratulations on all your great work preserving these wonderful automobiles and all you do for the hobby!
@woodsandbarclay

Thank you I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel. Mercedes actually did use cadmium plating back in the '60s but it was outlawed due to it being so carcinogenic during the cad plating process. In the 1980s they were using zinc dichromate plating, just like we are doing in the videos. The only people that still do CAD plating today are the military. For everyone else it's illegal.
Yoh! YOH! YOH!!!! That IS a find. Special colour...smoke silver with Black Interior. (Black interiors generally can get very hot, but it's a lovely color combo. Generally in my experience only the later models have Smoke Silver. And no!@ Nowhere close to Graphite, John!! :-) ) /It was good to hear him say the oil was changed every year by his uncle. / Cars that stand around generally deteriorate very badly...as in gaskets, rubber components etc. Once you drive them, if all that stuff is not replaced, age related maintenance, the car generally leaks EVERYWHERE. This is often - inevitably? - the negative side of a very low km car. But John always replaces all age-related parts needing replacement so no problem there... other than driving up the price!! :-) /The paperwork - or provenance, to be poncey- is extraordinary. / And yes, off with the chrome wheel arch things...wow, do they cause rust IF the car is ever out in the rain n dirt!We all like different cars for different reasons. A 10 000 mile car, like this, and once its had the Woods and Barclay treatment: would one drive it? Would one risk going through a puddle? Is the car then to be kept "mainly for looking at"? The utilitarian morphs into the purely decorative... ?
@woodsandbarclay
2 ай бұрын
Yeah there's nothing rotted or deteriorated on this car it was well taken care of. This car could end up in a private museum collection or you could drive it everyday. Totally up to the new owner. But you were right we are going to go through the car bumper to bumper and make sure everything is in good condition and ready to go. Stay tuned for more videos.
Wow! That would be very hard to let go.

@woodsandbarclay

We don't send one piece if you're going to redo any of it you have to send all of it or it won't match and it'll look like you have one brand new piece and the rest old. It cost $1,450 plus shipping both ways it ends up being a little over $1,600 to do the entire trim in a w123
