Is it safe/recommended and effective to use LDA with Miyosmart glasses? Are there studies that prove of a combination of LDA+Miyosmart glasses slows myopia more than just glasses or drops alone?

I'm an optometrist, and I have prescribed atropine even for young children aged 3-12 Is it very effective and some children myopia decreases within six months.. Mostly I use 0.05% though research says 0.01%

I had an optometrist prescribe the atropine drops for my daughter, but we'd have to drive over a hour each way to get them. Plus they wouldn't be covered by insurance, and I think it was going to cost around $100 a month because our insurance wouldn't pay for them. Although I'm not sure about the optometrist that prescribed them because he told me we could get them at any pharmacy.

I'm sorry to hear that it was difficult for you to get your hands on the low dose atropine eye drops! In the Greater Toronto Area (Ontario, Canada) where my practice is situated, compounding pharmacies are easy to find with a simple Google search and shouldn't require an extremely long trek. Atropine eye drop is usually covered with Ontario insurance plans. In the case that one does not have an insurance plan, they cost around $60/bottle that lasts a month.

@@mommydear That's good news that your patients are able to get atropine drops easily. I haven't even decided what to do about my daughter yet. It's hard when you're a military family, and you move every three years. We're getting ready to move again this fall.

It is usually prescribed by the optometrist and filled at the compounding pharmacy. The prescribing optometrist will help to monitor for tolerance of the low dose atropine. If side effects are detected, then simple discontinuation of the drops should reverse symptoms.

Hi Mommy Dear, I have a 5 year old daughter and she is Myopic on the Right Eye only with -2.50, perfectly normal vision on her Left Eye. Is this serious? She is now wearing prescription glasses. Will it still be safe for her to wear it for short distance reading and activities? Thank you.

The first thing that comes to mind is to check her posture for near viewing activities. The eye that is closer to the screen/reading material tends to be more myopic. Because of the prescription on her right eye, ideally MiYOSMART lenses would help control myopia progression better; glasses with myopia control design is meant to be worn full-time. In your daughter’s situation, technically she only needs the glasses for distance viewing. You can also see if she has a preference to keep the glasses on or off for near. Some may experience eye strain when their eyes are not corrected equally while others find it not bothersome.
