Low cost HPA compressor output analysed! Yong Heng GX CS2 shootout YHHRS ep 18

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Join me as we look at the data supplied by our friends at Trace Analytics. We get a look at the prophesied "ISO 46 Hydraulic Combustion Event", We will learn how to measure moisture content so we can evaluate various separators and filters as well. Good data drives informed decisions, and we seem to have a bunch of that. I had long believed that the ISO 46 oil must be okay as it is specified by the manufacturer, boy was that mislaid trust. That oil seems to be a bad idea all the way around. Leave a comment and let me know what you think in the face of this data, it has been a wild ride.

    Hey Swamp Fox! Thanks for the comment! Just to be clear, oil will deteriorate the media quickly, luckily on the CS2 that is not a problem as there is no oil to begin with. So glad to hear molecular sieves work so well as i know one airgun guy with a channel on the tube who says they do nothing. I have done tests with the molecular beads and found no water in the secondary filter after the air is filtered through the sieve and this desicant bead filter os on the low pressure intake side and the last filter on the high pressure side. You can test the desicant by putting a few pellets in the palm of your hand and adding a drop of water if the beads get hot they are still working and still good . Great video as usual

    I just found your channel and I'm learning so much already. I've been air gunning since 2018 and got my first pcp with a hand pump in 2019 and its a workout to fill. I then decided to get a yong heng for more trigger time. I've been using mobil1 sae 0w-16 synthetic since the first day. And I do get the oily smell you mentioned like with iso vg46 oil. I notice it takes about 25 minutes under load to start smelling. I do use 2 inline filters with sieves on the air out side. I'm not sure if theres any carbon build up on the smaller piston never had it apart to check. If I switch to using a diester based oil should teardown the pumping unit to clean inside?

  • @TargetForge

    Welcome PJ. Is oil compatibility always an issue? No. If you had a well done, and in depth data sheet on each oil you would have a much better idea going in as to compatibility. It is always good practice to clean the unit well when compatibility is unknown.

    Thanks for all you hard work. I have the GX CS2 and Tuxing filter with the molecular sieve insert with the round beads vs the crystal desiccant. Is one of these filter medias better then the other? When I bring to the field and use I don’t always have the filter vertical. Is that acceptable or should I build a portable stand to place the filter vertical when in the field? Thanks

  • @TargetForge

    @TargetForge

    2 жыл бұрын

    Welcome Ken, the prevailing wisdom is to keep that filter vertical. It is also known that keeping the media pressurized with input and output valves is also "best practise" but few of us do that. The by product of the reaction of the molecular sieve media and moisture is acidic and if left in contact with the threads and side wall of your filter housing it can weaken them. Is incidental operation going to cause a failure? Probably not, just inspect well during media changes would be my advice. I also keep the threads on mine coated with a thin application of silicone grease for orings as well. YMMV.

    @@ronaldgene Thank you for you question Simon. I would not feel bad about using a tool within its limits, 6 min sounds perfect to me. Fill a magazine or two, wipe the gun down, stay focused on the fill pressure.

One more question though, what are you thoughts on filling one of the smaller blue "Creation Core" cylinders with desiccant? Are they too small (and the air wont settle in there for long enough) to be effective? I just find filling the large gold cylinder such a lengthy process for the little CS2 compressor.

    Great question Lev. There are some treated paper strips that change color when exposed to moisture that can work very well. Changing it out based on use works also. The interval will depend on time used and RH when it was used. It is possible to dry the media but it does require kiln level temperatures and it is so cheap, i never bothered to explore that in depth.

    so if im using the GX CS2 does it benefit me at all by using a "tuxing type" molecular sieve filter or am i wasting my time, $$$, and pump pressure filling the thing inline?

  • @TargetForge

    @TargetForge

    2 жыл бұрын

    Wasting your time? Ideally the filter SHOULD stay pressurized. So if that is some combination of check valves or manual valves that keep that filter volume pressurized you would not be filling that volume over and over. If this filter setup existed, and it could, with more or less off the shelf parts there would be no impact to fill time. I am also looking at creating a 1/2 or 1/4 size version of that filter to reduce the volume, which would also make mounting a little more feasible. Perhaps next we will tackle the valving issue and see how that goes. The goal in this video was to find a way to dry that output air, and we found a way. Would it benefit from from some optimization? You bet!

  • @TargetForge

    @TargetForge

    12 күн бұрын

    Your solution will result in a LOT of additional time on the pump as that volume will need to be filled each time. Also not having a true coalescer or moisture separator before the media means that you will consume media at a fantastic rate. Thank you for your comment.

    I wonder if a 70/30 blend of desiccants to carbon or even having another tube placed after the desiccants filled with carbon would assist with carbon monoxide removal as shown in the wiki en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diving_air_compressor under filtration. It's actually funny since just a couple of days before you posted this video I was cleaning out my yong heng and wanted to change over to breathable air to stop the carbon build-up and got the expensive Seco lube. I am really interested that if this oil transition leads to the change of eliminating carbon monoxide.

    Thank you for your comment Matt. I'm not a fan of DIY breathable air with super low cost equipment from companies that do not operate in the mainstream "HUMAN contact" air trade. In fact I pretty much advocate against it. Is a cheap filtration system from China (who your family cannot sue if it goes wrong) a wise choice when human life is on the line? Just gives me the willies... One test is not enough either, you would need to test at regular intervals to understand how your media degraded over time, do any of these filters tell you how often to change the media? Making HPA for a PCP, pretty low risk, worst case you blow a burst disk or push a bunch of junk into your new toy, your sad for a few days, big deal. Breathable air is a whole different thing, people have, and continue to lose their lives. If you saw inside the engineering of these companies, or lack thereof, you would be terrified too.

    I just read that wiki, and the presumption that activated charcoal removes carbon monoxide is incorrect: -Solid particles from intake air, using paper filters -Water, using water separators, silica gel, activated alumina or a molecular sieve -Oil, using activated carbon or a molecular sieve -Carbon monoxide, using a catalyst (Hopcalite) -Carbon dioxide, using a prefilter (scrubber) may be necessary depending on intake air quality.
