Why did Diabetes UK cut the video just when he was beginning to talk some sense (explaining the science) without the science to back it up this video is just hot air.

Just do it and you'll be hot skinny but you better have your long term diet picked out for afterwards like keto, low carb or intermittent fasting.

Whilst doing the 800 calorie diet with actual food instead of nutrition shakes, one should try to take a good multi-vitamin and upto 2000mg of Vit C to maintain healthy immunity.

@maz hussain Lovely Video clip! Sorry for the intrusion, I would love your opinion. Have you researched - Patlarny Sugar Outcome Principle (probably on Google)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for reversing diabetes without the hard work. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my mate after many years got amazing success with it.

I'm a bit confused. Does this study say that any weight loss mitigates t2 diabetes or only this specific very low calorie weight loss method?

? Can an individuals PFT deteriorate (reduce) if the failure/recovery process is abused by repetition? Excellent, thanks for letting us see this, it's very encouraging and reassuring. I've tried this and got my bloods back to normal. Interestingly, on learning that my HbA1C test had me back in the normal range, the fear went away, I relaxed my vigilance too far, and over 12months gained back 60% of the weight that I'd lost and find myself now, apparently having to repeat the exercise: don't I just feel like an idiot. I'd risen to over 20stone the first time. Although it's unclear at what weight I got ill, this time the threshold seems to have tipped at the lower point of 18.5 stone.

That looks like a very relaxed vigilance to regain 60% - if you lost 15 kg to start, you mean you regained 10 kg? I guess if you repeatedly overload the pancreas with fat , more beta cells will ' die ' , putting you into the non-responders group .

After you lose you need a for life plan in place like low carb or intermittent fasting to keep it off

Fascinating. Would be interesting to know the macronutrient distribution of the 800 calorie diet. Was it low in fat? There are currently two camps fighting this one out - high fat low carb v low fat high carb. I believe the scientific evidence favours the LFHC.

Both works. All you need is to make sure you are consuming at least 60 gm of protein for vital functions of body. The rest of calories you can get from fats or carbs. It is not very important where you should get your enegry from Fat or Carb... both works. LCHF gets you faster intial weight loss as compared to LFHC, but evidence shows that at the end of 12 months period both LCHF and LFHC gets your similar weight loss in a caloric deficit. But I prefer LCHF because it is easy to get satiation through high-fat diet as compared to high carb diet, makes things easier to survive on a very low-calorie diet.

You need at least 30 grams of fat a day I believe on the 800 cal diet Reason being to flush out the gallbladder and avoid gallstones (which is still a risk) High carb is never a good diet but either will work anyway, it's the calorie restriction that is effective High fat has no effect on diabetes per se

What about people in the 65 and over age group? I know several that are t2 and very fit and lean. Non-diabetes doctors attribute low insulin production strictly to age because common wisdom says everything falls apart with age and is worse if out of shape.

There are many risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes, and age is one of them- along with ethnicity and family history. There's more information on our website here that we hope you will find useful: www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/types-of-diabetes/type-2/diabetes-risk-factors

Robert Lustig has this issue sorted. Search his Vids and you'll become the full bottle on why so many people have serious health problems. The problem has nothing to do with calories. It has everything to do with WHAT you shove down your throat.

Please buy Dr Neil Bernard book on diabetes (or watch his videos) if you want a long lasting solution. Low calorie diet does work for sure in the short term but the bad foods will keep damaging your body and you'll inevitably run into problems when you reach old age.

if you go back to how you've always eaten, you will gain weight, restock your liver and pancreas with fat and your diabetes will return

  • @Tom--Ace

    @Tom--Ace

You can eat freely after the initial return to eating adjustment period following the diet , it will be reversed for a time but you may need to repeat the diet periodically if you dont keep your weight low and your diet healthy. So keep an eye on it and be ready to repeat the intervention if necessary

If they're not carrying extra body fat, they're almost surely type1. In this case they need insulin plus a good diet like the McDougall's diet.

This diet still works for thin people, but they need to do a modified protocol of something where you diet for a few weeks, eat normally for another few weeks

Been on a vegan wholefoods diet for 3 years lost 70 pounds first year caught covid and sugar spike now has my fasting glucose at 102. Plus whole year after despite zero cheating more exercise have not lost any weight! Also due to a Adderall supply shortage, (I have ADHD and 'narcolepsy since covid' had ADHD for life though and been on Adderall for 15. Simply not having my Adderall I put on 9 pounds while dieting and exercising. Only fast ing removed the 9 pounds! 2/36 hour fasts. I am now counting calories, vegan allowing myself 500 well thought out for best bang for my buck foods. Finally loosening a pound a day. This experience does seem to match up with the above science. Only big concern I get severe stabing pains i my liver when loose weight, I have to stop now and than and give the liver a rest.
