When Lovebites entered the metal circuit in 2016, they made it clear in their "declaration of intention" that they wanted to make a difference and to do it their way; being just another vanilla band wasn't even a last choice. They kept word: these awesome ladies have invigorated and further developed the genre in more than one way. What a wonderful journey this is.

The tapping in three places in this song is easily misunderstood because each person is shown in close-up, but Miyako, Midori (guitar), and Miho (bass) are tapping together in all three places. This song is said to be very hard for vocalist Asami because she has to sing it with all her might from beginning to end, and she got a nosebleed during the first recording of this song. For a while after that, the band members teased Asami by calling this song "Nosebleed War" instead of "Holy War.

Welcome to LOVEBITES 🤘🏼🐺🔥 The band is around since 2016 and released their first EP and album in 2017. At this point they have 4 albums, some singles and EPs and also 4 official live DVD/Blu-ray releases. They’ve already toured in Europe back in 2018/2019, including the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. Then came Covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. The more I watch these ladies the more I am convinced that it is not the practice of their instruments (although I can't imagine they don't practice) but it is their love for music and an intense love for it at that, which makes them so good! You are never truly ready for a LIVE Lobites performance. They get even better in their later concerts with classical piano, acoustic guitars, ballet, thrash, speed, prog, power metal etc. The talent in this band is insane and many feel like it should be illegal as the talent level is like a monopoly LOL. Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. You just watched their most popular choice for first reactions because it sort of captures the basic concept of Lovebites. But there is so much more to go! In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD-“”Hammer of Wrath”, “Judgement Day”, “Nameless Warrior” and “Liar”. All of them are barn-burners. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." They have become my all time fav band since I heard them in 2019. I'm a sucker for guitar solos - and they are incredible. Not just elite musicians, but incredibly talented songwriters. They are so creative with their little nuances - a drumfill here, a china hit there, slight change in a note . Just so good. They don't settle for just great, they go for exceelence.. You could say sometimes it looks like they are just showing off, I'm inclined that in their minds that if it's not something challenging they would be bored.

congrats for finding them and welcome to the wolfpack! yes, they are that good! the lovebites rabbit hole is deep and very rewarding: they have a backcatalogue of around 60 songs. not one one bad, stale or mediocre one, but all pack with great guitarsolos ( not the jamming doodling kind, but the masterful composed ones. my recommendation for next "the hammer of wrath, live tokyo 2023" from their channel. it was the first show after a two year hiatus (covid, childbirth, founder and bassplayer left, marriage) I thought, they were done. but they stuck to their lyrics, stood up and came back. it also was their first show with new basser fami. and for fami it also was the first big live show. enjoy the lovebites journey!

Welcome to your new favourite band of all time. Happened to me 3 years ago. I don’t listen to any other bands anymore, save the odd classic from the likes of Rainbow, Purple and Sabbath. Everything they have done is this level and I confidently predict that everything they create from now on will be the same standard. The best band of all time. No discussion. Enjoyed watching you almost explode.

One of my favorite parts is when Miyako (the dark-haired guitarist) had that nonchalant deadpan expression on her face (similar to MOST Classically-Trained musicians), basically saying "oh, the Lead i did? Oh ,it was just a Tuesday". Just my own personal opinion anyway.

I hope they truly bring the appreciation of guitar mastery back... we lost it since the 80's and I think it's a pure travesty. Drop -100 octaves riffs and Djent are not indicative of any real skill with guitar playing. We need to have these examples of what is possible if you truly dedicate yourself to your instrument. Love-bites is weirdly, long needed puff of fresh air to metal scene.
