    I am glad you got to Break the Wall. Frankly, I was surprised you hadn't done this song before since it is in my, and probably many others, top 5 Lovebites songs. I had no doubt that you would love it. The song is a little bittersweet, however, since it is the only song officially cowritten by Miho and Miyako, with the lyrics by Miho and the arrangement by Miyako. I wish they had collaborated like this on more music.

    As a bass player you understand more than anyone the importance of the right hand. I say that the right totally determines how the note sounds. Love how thick Miho's sound is in the slow part.

    David + Lovebites + beautiful kitten = Greatness. This song is one of my top 5 from them, I love the drive and aggression of the song. The part where they go down is awesome too. This is one of their songs were it's mostly old school thrash metal and not so much their usual power metal style. Kinda like "Hammer of Wrath" (I believe this one got the highest score from Lovebites too, love that song). It's like the 80's got teleported to the 2010's, it's the vibe I've always gotten from them. Miho is a real metal fanatic and she loved that era so it's no surprise Lovebites reminds a lot of people of the 80's metal era. I'm really going to miss her not being in the band when they come back, not just because of her playing but how she rocks so hard especially her headbanging is always a spectacle to watch.

    This is an amazing song and I had been anxiously awaiting this reaction, just like Amanda Heretic lol! Like I've said before, this song and Hammer of Wrath, along with other Lovebites songs are my go to songs when I go for a run. This song never gets old to me cuz of all the different dynamics in the song with the smooth transitions and the way they set them up. That transition from Midori's solo into the more melodic part before Miyako's solo reminded me of the similar transition in Master of Puppets into the melodic interlude. The keyboard playing in the background during the heavy section near the end where Asami was firing up the crowd reminds me of my dad's favorite band, Steppenwolf, cuz of the style and sound of it. That must've been a backing track live but I wonder who played it when they recorded the song cuz it could've been Asami but we know that Miyako can play guitar and keyboard simultaneously.

    Miho wrote the foundation for my favorite LB song Break The Wall, while Miyako added colour to the composition. Miyako wrote the solo in the middle with Gary Moore in mind, with she indentifies with the blues sound. Haruna called it their most agressive song to date. From the EP "Battle Against Damnation" Lyrics: Miho Music: Miho and Miyako Arrangement: Miyako/Lovebites

  • @athlonen
    @athlonen2 жыл бұрын

    The funny thing about this, Mr. Heretic. Yes, you definitely get the Slayer and Testament influence from this. That's what they were intending to do! You also get the Master of Puppets feel when it comes to the solos. If you think about it, you have the reverse order of the MoP solo, where you have the faster, crazier solo first, then the interlude, then the slower solo, then back to building up the song, then back to the main riff. That is also profound in Slayer, but it's funny that you get the Slayer influence here, when Miho actually wrote Thunder Vengeance (which you already reacted to) after seeing Slayer play at Download Festival in 2019 or 2020. You're spot on when it comes to the solos and technique versus feel. Midori is the complete and total shredder, while Miyako is more Blues/fusion/feel oriented. People have to remember that while she's been a concert pianist since her single digit years, Miyako is self taught on the guitar, and gets her influences from Blues. One of her biggest influences is Gary Moore, which everyone immediately goes to when they see her playing that Les Paul. Finally, once again, you're spot on: LoveBites is one of those bands where with certain songs, you could close your eyes, and hear nothing but the instruments (no vocals), you'd swear you're hearing Iron Maiden, or Anthrax, or Slayer, or Judas Priest. Hammer of Wrath sounds like it could have come off of Among the Living (Anthrax). Break the Wall could have come off of Reign in Blood or Seasons in the Abyss. Holy War? Name a Maiden album. That's how good this band is and how well they've done their homework on bands most people in the US would have forgotten about if they weren't hardcore metal heads.

    Then you’ll be happy to know that Miyako is playing a Gibson Les Paul in this song, with Fishman pickups. No Dean in this one. You know, I absolutely love your approach to your reactions, reviews, and even the rants. It was one of your earlier reviews that turned me on to Lovebites, and for that I thank you. Although this was a great reaction and review I think what won me over the most is Manda. We have 17 cats (several are also mostly Maine Coon as well). Some are rescued, others were "dump jobs" by heartless persons unknown. We do our best at getting them spayed or neutered as soon as possible, but some of the little buggers were fast....as fast as Miyako and Midori were in this video.... (like what I did there? *wink*)...and were able to reproduce before the big snip. Thus, the large number we have. But, I wouldn't change a thing, love 'em all and the rescues really do seem to know that they are finally safe and in a loving home.

    Thanks for another Great Reaction David. The solos are both Great, but one of my favorite parts of this song is Miyako's synchronous bends with Asami's vocals on that Les Paul during the Verse. It accents the Verse and keeps up the drive and power of the song until they return back to that Heavy Slayer-like riff. I know you love the band you're in, but - just between you and me - Did you send in an Audition tape? 😎 There are rumors that they will be making a decision on the new bass player in August. Excellent and highly entertaining reaction. Far from getting any grief for saying its your new favorite Lovebites song, I imagine you'll get a lot of agreement form others. It's definitely one of their most popular songs. I think there were probably earlier uploads that had much higher views but got taken down. Also probably ranked as one of if not their best guitar solos, even if M&M don't do their signature harmonic unison solos they are most famous for (and of course excel at). But the song is definitely one of their heaviest and most thrash songs with a killer riff leading into arguably MIdori's fastest and most impressive individual solo, and then everything comes down and the song briefly takes an awesome left turn where Miyako lays a little Gary Moore inspired solo of her own on us (she's actually cited him as a major influence, there's an incredible video out there of her doing an awesome cover of Parisienne Walkways) - then the Thrash kicks back in and they finish it out. It's a really incredible song. I'm actually really surprised though that no one had requested it before this (and kicking myself that I didn't request it myself, although I was maybe getting concerned my list was getting too long and so limited myself to one Lovebites song and went with "Set the World on Fire" from Miho's final show). I was also kicking myself because I forgot to give an additional thumbs up on the new kitty when she made a cameo in Mrs. Heretic's introduction to Babymetal, so glad to get a second chance - she's adorable. My own feline overlords would certainly vote for more cameos from her in the future.

    The Slayer vibe is picked by many but for me it is their take on thrash metal 😀 As you know they dabble into all sorts of metal genres. I need to hear the song through a decent sound system because it looks like Haruna is giving her ice bell some serious stick! I love the Keith Emerson keyboard break. I always smile when a 'Musician/Music Producer Reacts' channel asks: "Where is he keyboard player?" 🤣 I did not expect you to like this song as much as you obviously did. So it was a higher than expected score but you have to give some points to the guitar strings. Both Midori and Miyako abuse their strings in this song, you almost feel sorry for them.

    It's always fun to watch you react to Lovebites. There is something in your eyes, like a child on christmas :-) Do you keep a record of your reactions and scores? Because your new favorite song and still "only" 9.1. You have at least 2 songs with a 9.4 - Hammer of Wrath is one, the other I cant remember. I have no issues with your scoring system, I just reacted to your new favorite being a lower score than many other songs .-) The second part of Midori's solo in this song is among the best she's done, in my opinion. Just like the slightly too quiet solo in Swan Song. She's always fun to watch, though. Always look out for Miyako when she decides to channel Gary Moore. It's like he was looking down at her with a huge smile when she caresses her Gibson :-) It's like she channels all her emotions into the playing instead of moving, though there are older videos where she moves more, like the one from Wacken 2018. I suppose her "role/part" grew over time.

    That usually happens with me, my favorites songs rarely get the highest scores. For example, my favorite KISS song is probably either "I Love It Loud" or "Not For The Innocent", but I would never give either of those songs a 7...more like in the 5's and 6's. The highest scoring song from KISS would probably have to be "Detroit Rock City" which I would give about a 7.6. Just because it's my favorite song, doesn't mean it's going to be the highest rated song.

    This is my favorite thrash/speed metal song. The contrasting solos are striking in this song. And I 100% agree, Slayer. Not Megadeth or others that get mentioned. And they are "cleaner" than Slayer as all of their songs are. Well composed and played flawlessly. With all of their speed, nothing ever sounds crazy and messy. This next comment isn't pointed at you directly but in general because I hear it a lot. Personally I don't understand the focus on stage movement that gets equated to stage presence. I actually disagree wholeheartedly because I think their stage presence is amazing. They don't rely on "metal looking clothes" and bouncing all over the place, but instead wear those white dresses and stand there like beauty queens quite a bit, yet shred with the best of them and move around when they want to. It allows me to stare and focus on each of them and their instruments without having to chase them around the stage and watch them sweat like most do. It's not needed by Lovebites as that is how they roll, and it's absolutely part of their act. It's what makes them so refreshing to me in 50 years listening to metal (I'm 62). Asami's voice absolutely fits the song, it's blatantly obvious her more operatic voice not needed. This is my second favorite song by Lovebites. The Awakening/ The Hammer of Wrath is my #1 favorite song by Lovebites, and my favorite song(s) ever, honestly. I've only had 2 other songs I've ever called my favorite in my life as there is such great metal out there. Kashmir by Led Zeppelin for decades until I heard Ghost of Perdition by Opeth in the mid 90's, and now Lovebites. 9.1 is a little weak for my taste. Closer to 10 for me. Nice reaction and analysis.

    First of all, I'm sorry - ;) - I have got to tell you that this is NOT Slayer, but Testament! To be more precise, the main riff in "Break the Wall" is very similar to the riff you hear in Testament's "Over the Wall", namely for the first time exactly 38 seconds into this clip: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqWgqtqPabPck8Y.html Considering how many people mention Slayer in connection with "Break the Wall", I can only assume that they either have never listened to Testament's debut "The Legacy" (1987) or simply aren't very familiar with it. I know that it is irrelevant to the quality of "Break the Wall" whether it reminds you of Testament, Slayer or any other band, but perhaps some people who love "Break the Wall", yet have never heard Testament's debut, which IMO is one of the best Thrash Metal albums there are (especially as regards the guitar solos), might want to check it out! That being said, you won't be surprised when I say that "Break the Wall" is one of my three favourite songs by Lovebites - especially this live version which is the best one so far - , the other two being "The Hammer of Wrath" (which you already reacted to) and "Set the World on Fire". Since you haven't reacted to the latter yet, I fully support anyone who recommended it (i.e. the live-clip on Lovebites official YT-channel with currently more than 500,000 views) to you - there already are several in the comments to this clip.

    I checked out the link to Testament and have to say it sounded awful in comparison to Lovebites - now as far as the riff goes, yeah it was similar but the tone of the Testament guitars wasn't good and the vocals were unbearable to listen to. Metallica was the closest thing to thrash metal that I ever liked before Lovebites came along. Now - I absolutely LOVE all the thrash songs by Lovebites - they make thrash such a joy to listen to, it is both heavy and melodic at the same time. Testament and Slayer were just thrashing with no melodies what so ever which is one of the main reasons I never liked either of those bands.

    @@ChadTheDragonLord One man's meat is another man's poison. ;) Since I first heard Metallica's "Fight Fire With Fire" on the radio in 1984, Thrash Metal has been my favourite metal subgenre. I also wonder what you would say about Thrash Metal bands/songs with clean vocals like e.g. Forbidden's "Through Eyes of Glass", Flotsam and Jetsam's "Metalshock" or Toxik's "World Circus". But I understand what you mean. For me, it's a bit like the other way round, i.e. while I'm usually not that much of a fan of Power Metal (there are execeptions to the rule), "normal" Heavy Metal or Hard Rock, I do love any Lovebites-song from these genres, so one could say that Lovebites songwriting skills in each subgenre are so good that even people who otherwise might not like the subgenre in concern very much will enjoy a song by Lovebites from said subgenre.

    The band is influenced by well-known bands, as they are all lovers of Western hard rock and heavy metal music, except for the vocalist. To begin with, hard rock and heavy metal are music that originated in the West, so the band decided to use English lyrics as well in order to write songs with an English mindset in line with this. It is not uncommon for Japanese all-male rock bands to sing in English, but few all-female bands sing only in English. In that sense, this band is unique in Japan. Incidentally, Miyako, who looks the most feminine, seems to have the most masculine personality.
