    I love the take of Guillaume Beaujolais on Hans, in both speaking and singing. He sounds so natural and manly, and...I mean, his voice is kind of hot, while most french male dubbers have a way lighter voice. I just love him :)

    +FlamSparks I agree about Hans but I don't about the rest of the cast : I think Anaïs and Emmylou did an amazing job in the speaking parts but the problem was the songs (both lyrics and interpretations of most songs could have been way better, and it was a real step down for this particular movie, in my opinion)

  • @FlamSparks

    @FlamSparks

    Agathe H Well, talking about the lyrics, I actually like them (out of all the languages I understand, the European French disney lyrics adaptations are still my favourite, and this movie surely did not leave me down, even though some passages and stylistic choices don't convince me too much...). Emmylou's speaking is not bad, while I find Anaïs a bit too over-dramatic (it's evident she's a theater actress, not used to act in movies), and I definitely prefer Aurélie's interpretation. While on the singing...well, I never managed to like Emmylou, while Anaïs did not deliver the best performance out there...and, in general, I think that, since the end of the renaissance period, the European French dubs lost a lot of their charm. I'm still waiting for them to go back to their old splendor...

  • @AgatheH

    ***** Ahah I think the complete opposite : the french lyrics used to be extremely well chosen, some adaptations being sometimes better than the original, more poetic but they started to be less good from the princess and the frog (except may be Brave's songs, which I love in french) until completely wrong in frozen where they lost a lot of the original meaning and beauty. On the other hand, I like Emmylou a lot and, unlike you, I prefere Anaïs over Aurélie, she sounds more mature and darker (she maybe a bit overdramatic but it doesn't bother me), just a matter of taste I suppose ;) but I agree about the singing interpretations. I've got to ask though : didn't you like Tangled in french ?

  • @FlamSparks

    @FlamSparks

    8 жыл бұрын

    Agathe H Well, my favourite non\disney song writer (including the original composers) is still the undefeated Philippe Videcoq. Since he stopped working for disney France, the European French lyrics haven't seen the same beauty afterward. So I do see what you mean and agree when you say that French lyrics declined since then. Nonetheless, I can see they're still keeping the same policy Philippe used: adapting songs not aiming to stay close to the original form, but trying to write something beautiful, even if far from the original, yet true to its meaning. That's why I keep preferring French lyrics over the English ones, which often tend to be pretty flat and empty... Do I have to be honest about Tangled? ...no, I didn't like it. Recently I tried to write down my own ranking of Canadian & European French female voices (not to publish it, just for mere personal curiosity) and Maeva ended up last...I cannot help it, all the last European French female dubbers I've heard in these last few years all sound so fake to me...this is the reason why I tend to prefer watching movies in their Canadian version, rather than in the European one...I'm sorry ^^"

    @@sam_7352 Je pense qu'il devait y avoir une blague en anglais, genre "- we finish each other's" "- sandwiches!" En français la blague est moins possible parce que "phrase" est féminin et "sandwich" est masculin. Trslt for English people : I haven't checked out the English version to be sure because I'm a lazy fuck, but I'm guessing the "sandwich" thing is a joke, and the reason why the french version doesn't have that is probably because "sentence" in french is "phrase" and is a féminine word (une phrase), while "sandwich" (although coming from English it has been incorporated in the french language therefore got a "genre" too) is a masculine word (un sandwich). Therefore the transition wouldn't have been as smooth in the sentence.

  • @Firstkillenthousiaste.

    @Firstkillenthousiaste.

    But the problem wasn’t with the word sandwiches. The joke was that Hans started with “we finish each other’s...” expecting her to say sentences but instead she said something nonsensical, ruining the expectation of finishing each other’s sentences, for the translation to French they could keep the joke by making her say any other word, but instead they choose to make her actually finish the sentence correctly.

    Aw, they lost some of the wordplay (namely "sandwiches," but "love is a gift" loses the reference to her sitting outside Elsa's closed door). "Personal chips" was hilarious, though.

    Actually, the one you're thinking about is the fast one, while _this_ is the one with the actual speed. European DVDs use a slightly faster and higher pitched version, which is not used in the rest of the world, as well as on European soundtracks, Blu-ray's and streaming services. If you watch this movie on Disney+, you'll hear that _these_ are the pitch and speed used

    "Chips" is a french game that we usually play when we are a child : when two people say the same thing at the same time, they have to say "chips" as fast as they can and the last who said the word cannot talk until the other pronounces his name (and if they still say "chips" at the exact same time, then they have to say "chips personnel" until one of them says it faster)... it's kinda funny when you're 8 or 9 ;) hope it helped you
