Thanks Paula! This reminds me of my Mother (she passed away June 5, 2022)! All of her recipes now mean so much to me, more now than they did before!! Anyway, Mother would add an onion sliced thinly and would use a little vinegar and a little Miracle Whip and a little sugar! Yours looks and sounds so good and refreshing to me! It’s been so hot here in the “Permian Basin” in West Texas! Love you bunches Paula and I’m hoping you and everyone has a wonderful Labor Day Weekend!! Delicious simple classic salad. Thank you Paula. I like to add some thin sliced onion. Also do use glass dishes with any salt/vinegar recipe because one time I seriously stained my new aluminum sheet pan. Happy Labour Day weekend everyone!

Hey y'all, this cucumber salad will be a nice change. I never use mayo and sour cream dressing on them. Can't wait to try them! Miss Paula, I only cut the very end off one side of the cuke and then you have something to hold onto and throw away when your done!! Especially when you don't have the guard. I do just cucumbers, sour cream and either chives or green onions. My favorite! Reminds me of my mom and grandma❤️

I lost my guard too…I bought a set of garden gloves from the dollar store. It grips the vegetables and you can get down pretty close! No cuts! Love you, love you Miss Paula ❤

I make this all year long! With thin sliced onions too. Plus I've never had this salad with anything other than sour cream and mayo.

Paula, when I get close to the end of slicing a vegetable on my mandolin, I use a fork to pass the smaller piece over the blade until it’s finished. That has saved my fingers from getting sliced.

Omg cold southern salads are sooo refreshing in the summer heat!

We grew lots of cucumbers and beefsteak tomatoes. Our cucumber salads are the same as the way you make yours, but we didn't try the removing of the water part yet. We add a touch of red onion, giving it a great flavor. Thank you for your tip Paula. I didn't recognize you at first.

I have ended up in the emergency room over almost losing my finger with a mandolin. I just cut the cucumbers with a knife. 🤣😇🙏

I make a similar salad but use onions, sour cream, sugar and red wine vinegar. It is kind of like the cucumber salad they serve at German restaurants. I use a mandolin and have cut myself. My niece cut herself really badly on a mandolin, even using a guard. So, I bought some gloves off Amazon with the brand name Dowellife and they are great. I could not cut myself on the mandolin if I tried. Y'all need to get some!

I love Paula so much! Though she is the only professional cook I know that takes 10 minutes to share a really quick recipe.

I just read that cucumbers are the most healthy vegetable. One cucumber has a full day of vitamins you need. And I love cucumber salad!

I use the same ingredients in mine except I add sweet onion slices to mine.

My Creamed Cucumber dish has a thinly sliced onion added to it. Delicious side for summer. I bet it tastes just as good without the onion? My recipe is close to 40+ years old.

I make two kinds of cucumber salad, one with ranch dressing and one with red wine oil vinegar and seasoning but when i do it that way i add tomatoes and onion.

My mother and grandmother used apple cider vinegar (white vinegar was for cleaning in our family), sugars salt, pepper and lots of onions. The sliced cucumbers were put in a bowl with a fair bit of salt then a saucer was put on top with a large can of tomatoes or green beans for weight. After 30-45 minutes, that would be drained and rinsed with a lot of cold water. Finally cures, onions, vines, sugar, salt and pepper were combined. Into the fridge until dinner.

Did not know viniger would do that.learned some thing new

Paula buy a kevlar fishing glove. One that fits well. You can run right down to nothing and not slice your hand.

Geoffrey Zakarian promotes a mandolin that is foolproof on QVC. The blade is covered, so your fingers never come close to the blade. Reasonable price too.

@@stacey8420 I'm ordering one. Was kind of hesitant because of the price, but my son said it was worth not hurting myself and it would last a long time. And I love that they have easy pay :) I just love David on QVC, I always watch In The Kitchen with him. He makes everything fun to watch. LOL

I made this! Wonderful! I am in a wheelchair and used a mandeline and sliced my right finger. Monty Python blood. I could not stop it. The paramedics were really sweet because I couldn’t stop the bleeding. My right index finger has the right side off. I thought I was really sloppy with the meat casserole I made earlier until I realized it was my finger.

Great recipe Paula. I won’t use anything like that. I use my KitchenAid Food Processor it slices, chops, dices and my fingers stay safe. I am very careful with a knife too. Love you Paula and family. Have a blessed holiday weekend.❤️

That’s an old recipe, my mother would make that in the summer. She also added onion to it as well.

Put grape tomatoes in that and it's pretty much my mom's recipe.l

I watch too many cooking shows. I have the beautiful cutting boards, a mandolin, Japanese knives. Missing a gas stove! No fresh dill because it is August in Arizona. Too bad hub doesn't eat vegetables.

You need A LOT more cuke.

I make cucumber salad and let sit over night yum, I let mine soak in oil and vinegar
