He's so desperate for advice and so solitary that he's willing to talk to someone he has absolutely no intimacy with. It's a pitty Louie is cancelled now. This skit is amazing. It shows how entitled we can be . We wanna have the best of everything. The analogy Dr Bigelow gave with the rare diseases meant that we are lucky to even have a normal pain-free life. The dog with three legs had a path and he went with it. Yes, four legs would make him happier, but who cares? Just live your life and be happy

Grodin's character is the movie cliche in which a wise person (usually an elderly man or woman but sometimes a child) disburses sage advise to the protagonist. The wise person always makes time for the protagonist. The character is also helpful for storytelling purposes because by having the protagonist reveal everything he's thinking he's also telling us the audience. Of course this is Louie so he has to turn the cliche on its head; the wise man doesn't care about Louie. He doesn't understand why Louie is talking to him, let alone why he's revealing personal details about his life. He's a reluctant guide who constantly reminds Louise that he's not the main character.

Whoever wrote this dialogue.... you are a certified genius. It shows human innnate narcissism and nihilism all in one quick exchange. Funky great writing.

The “really good advice philosophically” Dr. Bigelow gave him when he was in his office was to walk on all fours to make his back stop hurting in about 20,000 years. 😅

Louie has some of the best acting in any show. It’s crazy not many people have ever seen it/ know who Louie is (not in comedy realm). I mean the Robin Williams episode, dude, that had some over the top performances and messaging. AND ITS A SHOW BY A COMEDIAN.
