Loughcrew: myths, history and astronomy of a Neolithic cemetery in Ireland

Ғылым және технология

A special Mythical Ireland (www.mythicalireland.com) film production examines the myths, history and astronomical aligments of the Loughcrew cairns in County Meath. Anthony Murphy explores the importance of the cairns at Slieve na Calliagh, outlining some of the myths and history of the Neolithic passage-tombs while also examining their astronomical alignments. The documentary was made in conjunction with filmmaker Grant Wakefield, and contains beautiful music by Andrew Heath. It was first premiered on the 'History with Kayleigh' KZread channel on the day of Bealtaine (5th May) 2024.

Marvelous Anthony! I have yet to visit Loughcrew. What an exraordinary place. Truly the knowledge of our ancients was vast and cosmic. The fact that the Carrowmore cairn complex is in visual alignment with Loughcrew cairns cannot be accidental.

Anthony, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful film about Loughcrew! I have travelled to Ireland many times over the past 8-10 years and this is a site that is very close to my heart! I have been lucky enough to collect the key from the tea shop and climb to the cairn, let myself in the gate and sit within! Truly a special experience! It is a place I have returned to several times...on my roving around Ireland...and now I see the other sites that I have visited are also visible from here! The precise solar alignments are no lucky happenstance...it is a sacred place. Your photography of it with snow is so beautiful! I imagine it was most difficult to climb up the path in the snow...it was very slippery with morning dew! lol I also went across the fields (where I shouldn't have been wandering on private land!) to the neighboring sites on the opposite hill...even more cairns! So much history in this central area of Ireland! I feel such a connection to this place...it always draws me back. Barbara

Fantastic video! I love (love love) archeoastronomy and it's discovery of cultural implications, some of which have left their mark right up to this very day. (I may have worded that funny, but my guess is that "you get my drift." :)

I feel that these are geodetic mark points ...those 'high places' ..not just about burials or alignments ; the ability to survey , literally , their place in their cosmos .. x x x totally wonderful video thanks Anthony 😊( ps ... see the work of Christian O'Brien in 'The Megalithic Odyssey ' )

Beautifully filmed, narrated and scored! The Irish people themselves need to be extremely vigilant in preserving these treasures. Their government spends most of it's time aiding and abetting hoards of foreign yobs, most of which could care less about Irish culture.
