An inspired performance from Lou in 1998 or so, on Sessions at West 54th. "Take me for what I am; a star newly emerging." May the man rest in peace.

My favorite Lou Reed song. I knew of this song from the "Pass Thru Fire" book of Lou Reed's lyrics before hearing the song. This song set me down a road of seeing Lou Reed 5 times between 2003 and 2006, being invited backstage by Lou Reed (another story) after the 2003 Wiltern show that was recorded for the Animal Serenade album, writing papers about Lou Reed at university, and just recently visiting New York to see the new Lou Reed exhibit. Lou Reed is my favorite writer and songwriter and no song or piece of writing compares to this for me. I wish I could explain why in a deeper, logical, and more academic way, but sometimes it's just a feeling...

I feel so blessed to have been young and growing up in NYC during the 70s and 80s where Lou Reed was, is and will always be the world's greatest rock-god-poet. The mold has been broken, never to be recast.

Thanks for this post! I can't deal with all the Perfect Day commercial comments anymore. Seems people new to Lou don't realize he did a lot more than write one brilliant song. He was a masterpiece of simple elegant perfection. My heart aches and seems mortally wounded. I was unprepared for this loss.

There were only a handful of really good drummers who were musicians and Tony Smith with Lou Reed is one of the best. Watch him at and after 3:50. Although he is in groove from beginning he gets in the ZONE and the autopilot i call the FLOW....the music is in his head and he loves it.

Did not know of this drummer, he is very good. The balance between keeping it simple and on the beat with a few flourishes at the right points is just perfect. Also good to see a musician clearly enjoying playing, so many particularly in the rock field seem in pain half the time.

I don’t know if anyone that plays guitar might recognize the freaking amps and guitars he’s using. I noticed he played classic examples of Gubsons and fenders and the top of the line amplifiers . Busload of faith to get by is a song I p daily.

By far the best songwriter of the second half of the 20th century. Add the feeling for good simple rock music. Dylan is too complex. Bowie was too pretentious. Reed was good.

i post THIS GREAT lyric and any who reach this have saved themselves and have escaped this darkening world forever/ i am sure the Teacher Jesus would LOVE this song, and The Teacher Buddha also // Lou was a great man Take me for what I am a star newly emerging Long simmering explodes inside the self is reeling In the pocket of the heart, in the rushing of the blood in the muscle of my sex, in the mindful mindless love I accept the new found man and set the twilight reeling At 5 am the moon and the sun sit set before my window Light glances off the blue glass we set right before the window And you who accept, in your soul and your head what was misunderstood, what was thought of with dread a new self is born, the other self dead I accept the new found man and set the twilight reeling A soul singer stands on the stage the spotlight shows him sweating He sinks to one knee, seems to cry the horn are unrelenting But as the drums beats he finds himself growing hard in the microphone's face he sees HER face growing large and the swelling crescendo no longer retards I accept the new found man and set the twilight reeling As the twilight sunburst gleams as the chromium moon it sets As I lose all my regrets and set the twilight reeling I accept the new found man and set the twilight reeling
