Why, after all this time, do people still look at Lulu as a Metallica album? It's NOT Metallica! It's Lou Reed, whose backing band just happens to be Metallica! It's so easy to jump onto the hate bandwagon regarding Lulu, just like with the Load album. Metallica have never been afraid of thinking outside of the box, unfortunately, a lot of fans have! Music is art after all.

The reaction to this was over the top at the time. It was basically a lou reed album with metallica as his backing band. You could simply take it or leave it. People were behaving like it was their new album when it clearly wasn't or even marketed that way. Its not my cup if tea but a lot of Lou Reed fans really rate it. Bowie said it was one of his best works. It was more a Lou Reed project but people had fish in a barrell and couldnt resist shooting. Metallica do deserve criticism for various things but this was at the very least, the first thing they had done in quite a while that disregarded the mainstream, image of the band and a potential profitable venture. If nothing else it was pretty uncompromising.
@mattcyrano
3 жыл бұрын
@@paulmallon9292 yes, but as accurate is your analysis, Reed has made better music than this. There's no melody, he doesn't even sing. Most of the album is a cacophony as if two different bands were playing in the same room.

Exactly, most other bands play the same style of music for decades without changing their sound or going out of their comfort zones, and no matter how good their new music is, there older albums are better. Metallica on the other hand have changed their sound with every few albums, gained a lot of newer fans, who in turn looked back and opened up to their older albums and loved them. Some people don't understand that a lot of fans wouldn't have listened to kill em all if they didn't hear the black album, load and reload first.

This song is part of a 4 part epic song story, this first track tells the tale of a menacing creature, aptly called "Dragon" The second part explores into the the mysteries of our universe which is titled "Bophadese" which is named after the Bophadese constellation. The 3rd part focuses on mans delicate grasp with sanity, aptly titled "Nuts" which tells the story of a man struggling with mental illness. And to close it out, the final track tells the story of legendary boxer, Joe Frasier and his rise to fame. It is called "On your chin" with thundering base and machine gun riffing this is a great closer to the four part story.
