On this episode of The It's Only Rock And Roll Podcast, we feature a wide-ranging, cathartic interview with LOU GRAMM, the former lead singer and principal co-songwriter for 2024 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees Foreigner. Topics covered include his early life growing up in Rochester, a parent-defying trek to a 1965 Rolling Stones concert, the lean years with his first band Black Sheep (including losing the supporting slot for the '75 Kiss tour), shooting pool with John Lennon, and an often-tumultuous relationship between himself and founding member of Foreigner, Mick Jones. He additionally gives an honest assessment of Foreigner's new singer, as well as life after surviving brain surgery.

Without a doubt, one of the greatest singers of all time in any genre. Also, a good and humble human being. He got screwed by Mick Jones, but still remained fair and not vengeful. I'm not a fan of the HRHOF, I feel their political and show favoritism, however, if anyone deserves to be inducted for their contribution to music, it's Lou Gramm.

When I heard how Lou and Mick decided to split the copyright and publishing I just shook my head, that was insane, that was just pure letting the fox in the hen house and sooner or later There aren’t any chickens left. You get lawyers for that stuff there’s no way Lou should have given Mick The entire song “I want to know what love is” Just incredible

The voice of my lifetime - age 10 to now, 57. He has always been my favorite. And, I love even more that he is humble and has a giving heart.

There would be no Foreigners without Lou Grammatico. I was never a Foreigner's fan because I was into some other genres of music. But, when one of their songs was playing on the radio, I was always listening because of Lou's powerful and unique voice. It's formidable that he survived his surgery. 🤩

I enjoyed this interview so much. I’ve never known some of the struggles you went through, had to face, over the years. And crazy because I’m 68 and have been listening to your music for over 40 years now, but I’ve had some heavy duty struggles myself and only relied on your voice and songs to get me through without knowing the backdrop of what was going on. Thank you for being the amazing man you are and telling your story. I pray God continues to bless you with good health and joy!! Love you Lou Gramm!! ❤️❤️❤️

Still hoping Lou might consider teaching voice. What we singers could learn from him would be beyond immeasurable.

He was the sound of foreigner. He should have teamed up with Ritchie Blackmore who based his commercial era of Rainbow on Foreigners sound.

❤️Lou Gramm is the only reason Foreigner made it like they did!! STOP saying “ex-singer of FOREINER…. Lou is the one and only guy we women want to watch sing! He’s Hot, He is sooo sexy and the songs he sings so real❤️and passionate! His Voice and at the end of some songs he sings high , like “waiting for a girl like you” with your eyes closed “waiting yeah”, but a real love in Lou’s life at that time seemed painful. Which you show, Kelly Hanson is scary scary looking and tries to hurt my friend Lou by coming on stage interrupting you (people boooooed him), haha Lou made FOREINER It’s not FOREINER without him. Kelly Hansen pick a different name for your yucky band!!! I LOVE u Lou- Kerry from Kauai where I live., Come where it’s low key, beautiful, tropical, and sing solo
