Welcome back! Today I had the privilege of driving Russ' V6-swapped and supercharged Toyota MR2 on a few backroads with not a soul in sight. On the surface Russ' car hasn't changed much, but the driving experience tells a different story from when we last featured this car back in 2015. With vehicle ownership over time there comes a knowledge and familiarity with the specific car you drive. This build is a testament to 10+ years of tweaking, tuning, and most importantly, driving. Enjoy!

If you ever come to Oregon, I have a Frankenstein second gen mr2 you can review. It has been swapped with a j32a2 (Honda v6) and has a m90 blower (oem supercharger from a GM car) on it. It’s a partially stripped out track toy. I have videos on my channel of the car.

Makes me excited to finish my 2gr swap! Been following this guy on ig for a while. Awesome car!
Awesome build 👏🏼 great review. Long live the MR2
That is awesome, I am currently in the market for a good Mr2 and i want to do the V6 swap. So this car has now set that bar very high!! Love it.
I love builds like this, nice balance.
fantastic car. one of the most impressive moments is 11.13 the way it handles the bump in the road and settles so fast, love your enthusiasm i feel the same about my E46 330ci..

What an amazing build and quality of channel.
Now all it needs: the bodykit used in the JGTC racing series. I love it how the car looks with that bodykit. Also, I love the sound of this car. Sounds like one of those track cars in the 90s.
I can't tell if this is my favorite MR2 video or if this is my favorite MR2. I just know that I find myself watching this video often.
Great build, love the old school TRD colours!
Now that's a track weapon
4:45 90's-ness is what makes an MR2 an MR2. part of it at least.
Such a good build. Well done sir.
Very nice build. Very tastefully executed.
Love the revised headlights!
The car sounds absolutely beautiful
Hmm a mid engine car using a Toyota V6 and a Lotus supercharger makes similar power to a mid engine car with a Toyota V6 and a Lotus supercharger. No shit😂 Great car Russ!
I love MR2's! I owned 3 2nd gens and 1 first gen
What an awesome build.
Beautiful ride!
Only thing I would recommend is the turbo engine cover with the raised grill inlets, just because that was distinctive feature of a badass MR2, which this is
Always loved this shape of MR2 especially the later ones. I keep trying to find a good white T bar turbo in the UK.

This car is what inspired the stripes on my car. I liked what he did and wanted to do something but not copy his.
Not gonna sugar coat this... I've spent a lot of time and money into my 2nd gen 3sgte, but if I could do it again, I would definitely do a supercharged v6. Would be more fun. My car makes probably same power or maybe even slightly more, but tons of LAG. Problem is the factory gear ratios do not work well with bigger turbos if you want to go fast in the twisties and keep the motor in its happy place. The supercharged v6 motor seems like a perfect match for the mr2.

Personally I even prefer how the MR2 handles to the 911 by a long shot. The MR2 is an excellent performance car. Just needed a little more power.
I had an mr2 for 6 years and loved every minute of it. Moved on to BMWs when the rot became unfixable. Now I love the torque of the i6 engine. A 3.5 v6 mr2 is my dream car. I'm in a Z4 currently and it's good fun but a supercharged 3.5 v6 sounds like a wet dream to me. :-) Luv and Peace.

@@dasstig5274 I remember a road trip with a bunch of my friends and one them had a 320i with the 6 and made 170bhp. At one point the guy in the rover 620 Turbo put his foot down and everyone tried to keep up. I was shocked my MR2 with 174BHP was getting gapped massively by that BMW. It just walked away. After I understood that the MR2 made crazy high power at 7250rpm but the BMW (2.2 i6) made crazy torque from 3000 rpm. It was my introduction to the power under the graph. Fast cars make power everywhere. I bought that BMW (Belonged to my boss) and ran it for seven years. Very special car. Cheapest six but had about every other box ticked including BMW Individual Paint (Tourmaline Violet) and Individual Leather. Blueberry Nappa Leather. Purple Interior. Looked like a very special car. I did miss revving it out to 7250, it only revved to about 6800 but is did sound great. Totally under stressed engine at only a 2.2 it had no major faults other than the plastic cooling tank leaking at about 120,000 miles and a passenger occupancy sensor at about the same time. Eventually after 150,000+ miles the tin worm got to the sills. I bought a couple of replacement sills and painted them myself. They looked OK but someone made me an offer on the car that I couldn't refuse and I let it go. Very special car. Now I'm in the Z4 which is great but I yearn for another MR2 with a 6 and a blower. Luv and Peace.
Makes me wish I did a 2GR swap in mine, but the GEN4 I did do in my 95 has never let me down. I’m curious how my setup would compare to this particular car...

If I had another 2015 Scion xB, while I have a 2015 xB 4 speed AT, I honestly go for 2GR swap making 270 hp and 248 ibs pounds of torque > 3.0L 2JZ N/A. 2GR makes an incredible and most underrated sound ever

With the prices of MR2s as high as they have been lately, I am looking at the Porsche Boxster or Cayman. They can be LS swapped or even take the 1UZFE, but those swaps require cutting the firewall and the floor pan. I am thinking that a 2GR would fit without such modifications.
You only have to look at the MR2 Sw20 to understand what awesome car it is. Luv and Peace.
Very nice build. Sad that there are hardly any MR coupes being built anymore. The S660 is never going to be affordable and there isn't much else out there.
400whp in a JZA80 is still turtle status I think you need 500-650 to have fun that's always the sweet spot. That's what I run on low boost 1.4 bar. 1.6 is where it used to scare me but now I'm used to it.
