Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Emira is the first new car from Lotus in more than a decade, and potentially their last mid-engine ICE sports car. While it is worth celebrating, it’s not alone in the market. Porsche and Chevrolet both offer great exotic mid-engines for around $100k. Join us as we put all three cars together on an amazing road, debate how they compare, and marvel that they exist.

@@Londonistan_Calling you don’t see 9k often on public roads even if you’re a hooligan. 2nd gear at 9000 rpm is +/-80mph. As intoxicating as it is, 6-7000 rpm’s is more frequent and still enjoyable. When I hit 90mph in my 240Z it was exciting. Emira is a highlight of cars past and proof you don’t have to go crazy fast enjoy the drive.

You should talk about Corvette's motorsports/racing history. Corvettes have been leading/dominating GT racing since the C4. And GT racing is really what matters the most as GT race cars are the closest you can get to the production sports cars. The C4 was so good it was banned by the SCCA for winning too much. The C5 has numerous 24 Hours of Le Mans wins and absolutely dominated GT racing series. C6 through C8: More wins at Le Mans and other FIA/WEC and IMSA races, overall IMSA GT championships, etc.

I've been interested in the Cayman the longest, Emira got my deposit first, but C8 gets my money in the end. I only haven't driven the Emira but their points and rankings agree with everything I've inferred these last few years. What tipped me to C8 is availability/affordability/faster shipping of replacement parts, 1st year gremlins mostly sorted, and dealership network. C8 is cheaper in US vs UK, Emira is cheaper in UK vs US so C8 wins in value only in US. C8 is also tuned for average American roads where I'll mostly be driving (not as much in twisties) whereas Emira suspension is tuned for average British roads which are very different. So I'll get more out of the C8 vs Emira in terms of engineering intent. C8 makes more practical sense not in terms of livability but as a sports car that's purchased, driven, and maintained in America. Its body lines don't flow as elegantly but it has more aggressive supercar road presence due to its proportions. Almost a wash, slight edge to C8. So close that I'd opt for Emira if I lived in the UK. Sig I've had these last couple years in the Emira forum: Emira v Cayman v C8: It's rock-paper-scissors where C8 and Emira are both scissors and Cayman is the paper.

Unless your doing home improvement projects that require a bed its very daily capable. But really this comparison should have had the Z06 not the C8 to get close price wise.. Z06 is a step above the c8 and yes the C8 feels like a Lambo or Ferrari.. With its bold styling and performance.. C8 puts those in it price class to shame.. Z06 destroys them all for the price. But yes like the true super cars it is styled like, you cant see crap out of it , get the 2lt teck package for all the cameras.. cant imagine owning this car with out it, it would be a nightmare.

But very few people would even consider daily driving one. It only sits 48 inches high. It makes the Porsche feel like a VW bus, by comparison. It only has a 14 gallon gas tank, so it's range is closer to an ev than a regular ice. It looks the part though. It truly looks like an exotic.

This is the comparison I've been waiting for. As always, I wish you guys could have gone to 3 other environments that being: an actual track for a better apples to apples performance driving comparison; a road trip for various real world driving and practicality demonstrations, and to places where regular people could give their feedback like a city center (looks, selfies, conversations initiated, and overall attention); or cars and coffee type events for longer, more in-depth public opinion from car people. That said, thanks for the insightful video. I was recently in the market and it came down to the Emira and the C8 Stingray. The C8 won out for me, but I would have been perfectly happy with either.

You could really get the nose pointed in at the apex early. It was a fantastic and fun characteristic once I figured it out. But it for sure could catch you out if you didn't know about it. And the traction control did absolutely zero to stop you from spinning in that situation because you are off the throttle. My Emira should arrive in the next 30 days. Very excited.

Another great video - thank you both. I love the idea of the Emira, but I also like the idea of actually driving whatever car I choose. With no dealership support near me, stories of long waits for cars, the prospect of having difficulty getting parts down the road - all of these things hold me back (even if I could afford and justify $100K on a car, which right now I cannot). The C8 is cool, but I just don't love GM products - perhaps I need to revisit that and drive one. But I like to shift. Yes, a DCT is faster, but I'm not racing, and I'm not doing regular track days (if I were, I would strongly consider a DCT - one less thing to think about while mastering a track). So, that leaves me with Porsche, and more likely, leaves me with my 2000 Boxster which I have had for 15 years as the second owner. It's a manual, it's paid for, I can get parts readily, my dealership is wonderful, the car has been remarkably reliable. And, most importantly, it brings a huge grin to my face every time I look at it and drive it. And, I won't end up losing my license - it's not blazingly fast, but it's fast enough for the street. Thanks again for a wonderful video!

I am not a habitual viewer of this channel (though maybe I should be). This is the first real comparison of these three cars and breaking down the review into sections really brings the review to life by emphasizing details that matter (e.g. the amount of weight over the front axle in the Lotus vs. the Cayman). It feels objective and informative, like a highly driver-focused enthusiast's DougScore (not knocking Doug - he's brilliant for different reasons). Sometimes in other car reviews, you feel like you are getting someone's opinion about the car without the appropriate context. Not true here. Excellent review. My only caveat: I wish more had been said about the nature of the power delivery. The Cayman has the advantage over the Emira on paper: a higher redline and more "motorsports derived" powertrain (without sacrificing reliability). And a pushrod V8 is very different to the other two and might make the car for a particular kind of buyer (refined, growly vs. howly, etc.). More to explore there.

Great review and enjoyed hearing the detailed commentary. Lotus is a nice car, but unless there is a dealership in my area, I will not buy a car. I’ve never been in a Porsche and again, no dealership nearby. The Porsche design is boring IMO and I hate the front view, something about the headlights always has been a deal breaker. Ok, so I’ve had a Corvette or two of them since 1980. Admittedly, some have not been great, but the C8 has been a real game changer. For the price, you’re getting a Super Car even with the base model. The ZO6 is beating a lot of the Exotics at a better price point. Just sold my 2009 C6 in May 2023. To have funds for another C8 or an SUV. Have a 2022 C8 and love it. Yes, there are four or five Dealerships in my area. Hoping to get an allocation for an ERAY. Allocation for ZO6 is probably a year or so away. Really thinking about my options? Do I go the practical route or get a car that’s 0-60 in 2.5 seconds?

Wow! My 3 favorite cars on the market today! I’d take any one of them, although I actually own the C8 HTC. The Emira wasn’t available a couple years ago when I first got on the Corvette list. And so few 718 4.0’s are produced that you really can’t get one and certainly can’t test drive one. That Emira is special except for the Camry engine. The GTS is special except for the dated tech. For me, the C8 was just right and I have no regrets. If you could combine the GTS’s engine with the Emira’s body and the Corvette’s technology and suspension you’d have perfection

That's the best all round review of the three cars that I've seen, and I've watched them all! Brilliantly put across by two guys who obviously know a lot about the cars. I've had a deposit down on an Emira for 14 months now and am due to get it Q2 next year. In my opinion it's one of the most beautiful cars I've ever seen and is an amazing driver's car. I can't wait!

ha ha ha. Only 14 months. Some of us started over 2 years ago. Not too long ago I cancelled my Emira order and bought the C8 Stingray. Out of the 3 cars in this review the Emira is the prettiest. I would have held out longer if Lotus had designed, engineered, and built the engine for this car. The last of the non-aspirated Lotus's deserved an engine befitting an end to an era.

@Ron retired well a Lotus engine was never going to happen, especially when they already use the extremely reliable Toyota 3.5 litre one. I'm in no rush for my Emira and I'm sure it's going to be worth the wait.
