LOST IN SPACE - Reluctant Stowaway - Reboot - CGI
Фильм және анимация
This CGI video is a re-imagining of the LOST IN SPACE episode - “The Reluctant Stowaway” first aired in 1965. It’s not a full episode but just the beginning to give you a feeling of what direction the series may have taken. After watching this I can imagine a few possibilities…
I have given this “new” episode a new title - SABOTAGE.
In this short presentation, you will see obvious similarities and some big differences. Also, I used this as an opportunity to study some different effects and to work on the character models a bit.
I hope you enjoy some of the expanded set pieces.

1st season was gold. The Robot was scary, impersonal, the Doctor was evil, albeit clumsy, but not yet a buffoon he would later become.

I only recently got to see the pilot and older episodes, and I'd have to agree that they were much better written. No wonder Guy Williams and other main characters got got annoyed at the later scripts.

I disagree, think Dr. Smith was actually a more fun character later when his buffoonery caused the crew all sorts of challenges. I wouldn't change a thing! The silliness added to the show's charm, at least for me. But I like the CGI work here.
OMG this is so amazing I cannot begin to explain how great this is. I love watching these episodes and appreciate all you do to keep LIS alive. Please keep them coming!
Excellent work! 😆🖖
Very Cool. Lost In Space Was A Great Space Adventure With The Robinson Family, Dr. Smith, Don And The Classic Space Robot. Best Flying Saucer Ever The Jupiter 2.
Very Entertaining, keeping the Sprit of Lost In Space Alive.
Unbelievable! Made my year!!!!!! What wonderful work!!!!!!!!!!!! 😃
Just fantastic...love the B9....HE WALKS....GREAT JOB... Keep this style going thru all of L.I.S.
execellent work! i see you modeled the Jupiter 2 with an upper and a LOWER deck! good job!

with the deeper profile of the lower segment of the haul, the lower deck does fit. The Robot began to sabotage the J-2 before it took off, while the family was about to board. Could see the explosion from the lower deck view port.
Phil, you have done a wonderful job, especially for someone just learning Poser. You have spent MUCH time building your 3D sets and you've added so much more to the show as well as fixed mistakes like the Robot not appearing in that initial lower deck pan. I've watch your animations and your skills growing. Your work shows the potential of a professional production for LIS of this 3D nature. Using synthesised speech and body models done effectively (Furious 7) we could do a proper Reboot of LIS from the beginning, as a serious show using the original characters liikenesses. I look forward to your next episode, bro.
Bold in concept, brilliant in execution. Nice job!
Love the Robot sounds & the 1st season Robot...He walked.
I have been remiss in commenting on this video. Great work Phil!! I know the work that went into this. The textures, the mapping, the rigging, the lighting, the timing. It's so much work and most people don't even remotely understand the effort needed to create a video like this. Bravo!

Thank you Ron. You are correct - hours and hours have gone into this and sometimes you get a response "oh Cool" but no one but those who work in 3D modeling and animation (key frame by key frame) understand the time investment. Thanks again for your help with your modeling skills. P
Keep these coming. Very enjoyable to watch. and I can appreciate the work involved. Thanks!
That was fun-nice work capturing the character's appearance ,particularly Dr Smith-eek-is he dead-can't be.
I think if the second and third season did not get so campy, Lost in Space would have been better. I do enjoy the show.

The campiness and general buffoonery of the 2nd and 3rd seasons really ruined it for me. Like many fans, I was crazy about much of 1st season. The b/w photography somehow add to the almost noir feel of a lot of the 1st season.

I really loved the first season, too. It felt like they were trying to do a real science fiction show. But Lost in Space was competing with the TV version of "Batman" at the time. I think Irwin Allen decided that he wanted to take the show in a really campy direction to compete with that. He may have been a great producer but he didn't much care for story writing and he was willing to throw good science fiction under the bus if silly campiness got the show higher ratings.

Catzilla from what I've always heard it was not Su much a matter of what Irwin Allen wanted, as it was what the suits at CBS wanted. The addition of the Robot and Dr Smith was ordered by CBS. In an interview Jonathan Harris indicated that after the first several episode had aired and the ratings came in, Irwin Allen had told Harris to play Dr Smith more "over the top" or they were all in danger of being unemployed. Harris responded that of course if they wanted more over the top, more over the top was what they got. In turn Irwin Allen was only providing the customer, CBS, with what they wanted.

Hands off to the artists!
Excellent job.....hope to see more.
I return to view this often. It is like artwork for me visually. This is soooo cool that i wish it was or might be? included on the LIS Blu Ray disk set in whatever bonus material they offer as this is very worthy.
Very well done. Bravo.
"In Color." Smith gets his! LOVE THIS
Very good tribute to the show! And great for us fangirls and fanboys to imagine how the show would be in this day and age. There are limitations with the tools used, but for me it is exciting so that my imagination can run wild!
Like a lot of the other commenters, I too thought the first season was the best. My favorite character being the robot; I like how he could actually walk, and the echo effect when he said 'destroy'.

Even though they stopped showing the Robot walking in full length shots (because of real world limitations on what a human performer inside the complete prop costume could do) --- The episodes continued to indirectly imply all kinds of Robot walking, running, staircase descending and ladder climbing. You kind of had to use your imagination for the details of it.
Good to see you back. More PLEASE!!

hamiltonpl P lease make the next episode. How long are they delayed because of the explosion? Does the Robot survive? (please let him survive. You could call the second episode something like Blast off into Space.
The only boo boo is the robot going nuts at ground, outside of that, you nailed it!!!!

@hamiltonpl my previous acct and comments on this post from last year have been all deleted. So, I am back to say. THANK YOU for this amazing creation of art and re imagining. You absolutely captured the fine detailing and audio sound editing. It felt ike being a kid all over again with the same wide eyed innocence I had when the show first aired just sitting on the rug in front of the set with my mouth dropped open in amazement I love all the hard work, labor of love that you put into this and wish for more. Every detail from the blinking lights of computers processing to the smoke emanating from the lit cigarette to seeing, actually seeing and making out the interior of the ship through the view port on the outside. Loved seeing the Alpha Control and ship on launch in color Your sims o animation, whatever the process is called did a great job on this. Dr. Smith in this appearance really looked like a classic Nazi spy saboteur ,really evil. I liked him like that. I was absolutely thrilled with the alternate ending and the Robot's premature attack. I am hopping that you are working on a part two in some way Would love to see your take on their crash landing episode ""Island in the Sky"" Thanks for the brief trip into my past and youth.
This was great to watch! You're a master of your craft. Thank you.
Wow, this was dark and twisted . C'mon Major West .. you had like 20 seconds to run after you saw the berserk robot on his way up to save your life
Good job! Thanks for keeping the Robot Grey and silver as that’s what he looked like in the first season. The whole thing was a vision of the future from the Gemini space program era. THAT was part of what was so cool about LIS! Somebody should expand on that more...everything’s grey and silver, space is dangerous. They NEED a robot for atmospheric testing, etc. Just think about it, earlier versions of the robot would exist, and it would be interesting to see variations of equipment.
Where is part two? This is really good......
Bravo!
This is great work you should do a full new season 4 series of Lost in Space.Maybe with them finally reaching the inhabitable planet around Alpha Centauri and strange things happening there and also finally contacting Alpha Control. By the way I was age 7 when Lost in Space was first on the network. I watched it with my family on a 1948 Zenith black and white console television with a round CRT tube. We also had a 1965 color Magnavox Television in the basement and watched some programs on that one too but I was more fond of the older television especially with earlier programs like the Outer Limits and Twilight Zone.I do barely remember watching the ultra violent Untouchables on that old Black and White TV but I was very young then.
I love the Mac wallpapers on the screens at Alpha Control
Yep this happened in 1997 it was on all the TV news shows that night.
Very Cool. Great job! I look forward to more episodes.
Absolutely brilliant work
great job
So well done Phil
In color!
I like the original, but I love this version, thanks!
Wow !!! Looks awesome :) Excellent job !!
Excellent work. Good show!
We never found out what "Aeolus Umbra 14" meant it's implied Smith is working for an enemy Communist country and those words were never heard again after the pilot episode. In the comic book that Bill Mumy did in the 80s those words were Alien language and Smith was somehow working for an Alien race but I don't remember any more than that it was clever.
Doesn't Guy Williams bear a striking resemblance to Hawaii Five O's Jack Lord? They could be brothers. Excellent job, hamiltonpl
Wow!!!! Awesome job!!!!
This is really good. You have great talent sir!
Thank you so much!!!!
Absolutely incredible work and the attention to detail is phenomenal! Kudos to you for your efforts!! I guess they don't have to worry about being lost in space considering the robot trashed the ship...and Dr. Smith... before liftoff!😀 Would love to see the spaceship on the crash landing approach to the planet. Maybe a thought for a production from you? Keep up the awesome work!!
Outstanding!
John Williams score to this episode called, The Reluctant Stowaway, is truly mesmerising.
I remember watching this in September of 65 - I was in the 6th grade
Cool! thanks for the heads up!:)
really well done!
Amazing !
Fantastico
"Moisture! I need moisture!"
They're all more muscular. Could have been the result of living on a planet with stronger gravity but they haven't left yet! Very well done!
"Intergalactic vehicle"? That implies a longer trip than Alpha Centari!
We never did get those cool looking laser rifles.
You have to watch episode 1 again, the robot attack was advanced
Super! Super! Super! Congrats!!!!
Technical issues aside, this was way cool. Love the cityscape behind the J2 and the redesigned suits.
Well, that was different. Very good work.

Amazing!!! Criative!!! Brazilian fan
Big time thanks for that!
The Jupiter 2 was just a beautiful design. That hull curve is classic, like the Enterprise and the Klingon D-7.
My goodness, this is quite overwhelming! I'm a propulsion engineer, so I use computers for 'number crunching' pretty much exclusively. How in the world do you do this? Is there a particular set of software that you use to do this? How ever you do this, my hat is definitely off to you! Thank you!

Poser Pro 2012, Blender, Photoshop, Vegas Pro,. Lots of tedious hours building 3D models and animating. But also a lot of fun. Thank you for your comments.
You do very good work. You must have a very tolerant wife!
What a naughty naughty Robot
cool really impressive :)
The eyebrows and smile of Dr. Smith resemble the late Robert Stack!
This is totally cool!
Interesting take on the pre-launch story. Nice recreations of the scenes most of of us know by heart. The updated space flight suits - maybe a bit to revealing? I don't remember Penny being that busty nor Will being that well hung. I think June would approve of the updated hairstyle though. Nice touches with the "easter eggs" the Star Trek style clipboard, the iPads, the lit cigarette in the ashtray - fun stuff! Not sure if you intended the flight official who asked the Robinsons if they were ready to be a Foster Brooks clone, but if so, WELL DONE!
Wow that was cool, thanks. Did the crew have crotch zippers to facilitate emergency pee breaks? Haha. It was that or Space camel toe.
VERY interesting! Colorizing is great but shouldn;t B9 have more color? Like red claws? Would love to see MORE!

+Joe Palermo - in the first season - the Robot - had very little color and the claws were silver/aluminum.

I understand what you're saying. In the first season, of course, there was no color for anything. Once they shot in color, the robot had red claws. No big deal. I just thought since you were adding color, the red would have been cool. But no biggie. Would LOVE to see more. You've got a VERY interesting premise going. :-)

You realize he did not just colorize the old B&W footage. This is complete new CGI rendering.
I'd take anything you could do. I especially love your work with the Robot and the Jupiter2. More of them?
Nice modeling of Alpha Control a few more B205's rather than one bulky B220. Plus interaction with the technicians.
Sad that J2 is bigger than the shuttle but smaller than the saucer section of Uss Enterprise
very cool, looks like you like lis as much as I do........peace....
Well Dr. Smith got what was coming to him. Really good work Phil, J2 was detailed, matching up audio, updating spacesuits. Were those ipads in Alpha Control?

Beeltescott Yes because the digital models I used were adult but I modified them where I could - figure-wise - after working on their faces / likenesses. Thanks for your comments!
At the show's start, Smith could reprogram the robot and karate chop a soldier; about all the things expected of Major West. By 4th show, he couldn't do anything physical at all, in fact wrecked most weapons and systems. About what was expected of The Bloop.
Wow!! Messed up the J 2 before it took off!!.
This is great work! How long does it take you to create one of these?
This was great. I like the alternate ending. I can see they will not be Lost in Space
good job-mind you they would have to change the title to 'Lost on the launch pad.'
I always wonder how can one family start a colony in the late 20th century. If their mission was planetary analysis, I can almost see what that would be. Are they going to land on the planet and say: “ Yeah, you are a planet.”
Mr Hamiltonpl, could I translate this episode to the Brazilian Portuguese ?

It's a great piece of work you made. I hope to see part two. Thanks!
I think I saw a TOS era Star Trek Padd near the end.
I like the CGI approach, but 1,it's in color in contrast with the black and white episode, and 2, the CGI method doesn't do family Robinson's any Justice, 3, this presentation was changed from the original one making it inappropriate. Still have it a thumbs up for effort.
LOL I was born on October 16th.
1:28 - That's an interesting aspect-ratio (3:2) you chose for the monitors in 1997 :)
Dr. Smith a full bird Col. LOL 😆
So this was a fan made animation? Amazing! How did you do it? How long did it take? I do a lot of graphic design/photoshopping but I can't see how you did such a nice recreation. Cheers!

In the immortal words of Dr. Zachary Smith.... WHAAAAAAOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH OHHHHHHHHH...WAAAAAAOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what a game changer for the Jupiter 2~ Animation is okay- they made every body's boodie look good - what would the next episode be , and could they finally make it to Alpha-Centurai ? also , when did we have an Amish president?
