At one time Moebius produced a replacement glass bubble for his head, you may still be able to find one. The clear plastic parts leaves an ugly seam through the equator of the bubble. The kit with Dr. Smith and the Robot was sold by Polar Lights and is approximately 1/12 scale, the Robot is a re-issue of the old Aurora Robot kit from the 1960's and Dr. Smith is a new tooled kit to go along with it. CultTVman also sells a re-issue of the original Aurora Cyclops with Robinson Family and Chariot kit, slightly retooled to include all of the Robinsons as well as Dr. Smith and clear parts for the Chariot. The original Aurora kit had a solid Chariot with decals for the windows and did not have Dr. Smith and I think it was Judy.

Thanks for the information. I was unaware that a glass bubble may be available. I’ll have to do some research on that. I was looking at ways I may be able to mitigate the obvious seam in the plastic bubble. The seam won’t disappear completely but filling and polishing may help to hide it somewhat!! Thanks again for your helpful info.

I've wanted to build this kit for some time, but held off because of the bubble issue. As I understand, Moebius Models introduced a glass bubble upgrade some time ago. It was obtained two ways: it was included in a "deluxe" robot kit that included the glass part (and I think additional detail parts). Also it was availlable as a seperate "upgrade" purchase. Anyway, Moebius no longer distributes this and will not respond when questioned about it. I have searched for a couple years now (Ebay. Etc.) and it cannot be found anyplace. It's sad because it really enhances the very accurate model kit. I still look arround once in a while, but continually find it "out of stock". Great video series. Thanks for your info!

I have the 6 1/2 in Polar Lights kit. Actually it's right behind me as I type. I'd love to have this one, especially being bigger..

I have a number of LIS Robot models and such. How many inches is that model? FYI, I don't have time or space to do any more models, but I am curious to see how yours turns out.

I would love to get one of these models, but I'd want to build it like I've seen others do, with accurate lights and a sound board for speech. The problem, besides never having enough time to devote to a project like this, is that I wouldn't know the first thing about adding lights and sounds. Unless I could buy a ready-made kit, I'd be lost. Such kits probably exist, but after buying the model, the lighting kit, the sound kit, the etched brass detail parts, etc, you're looking at like $100-200 total. After spending that kind of money on it, i'd be afraid of messing it up.

I understand your concern about messing it up. I have that concern with every thing I build! But you have to start somewhere. I have purchased the lights and voice control for this robot and will unbox in an upcoming video. I will plug it in and see how it works, so check it out. I do encourage you to go and give it a shot! There are smaller and less costly b9 robots out there, maybe you could go that route. Thanks for your comment, I really do appreciate it!

@@garycote2519 I do have the original Polar Lights re-issue of the Aurora kit (and their Robby kit, which I was kind of disappointed with). Unfortunately, I have one of the first batch which was molded out of ABS plastic, which you basically need super glue to put together. I don't have the best luck with superglue, it seems to stick to absolutely everything EXCEPT what I want to glue together. Any time I've used it on ABS, the pieces fall apart at the slightest bit of stress. That kit is pretty inaccurate, but I did once see images of it with an excellent paint job that looked fairly impressive. I actually have a list of ideas for things I want to do with it, including replacing the bubble support with a less tapered one, and making the arms a press fit in the holes so that they don't need to be glued in. That way they can be swapped to be posed up or down. I'd also like to make a set of retracted arms (basically just a round piece with grooves on it), and be able to transfer the claws to them and plug them into the robot. Oh, and making thin rings for the ends of the arms to simulate the "cuffs". I am stuck on what to do with the treads though. The fake wheels in the kit stick out way too far, but trying to cut them down would be difficult without breaking them. I really don't want to scratch-build them, especially as I don't have access to a good hobby shop that sells hobby styrene pieces. There used to such a shop, but it closed MANY years ago. I also have the small Masudaya wind-up version. Not strictly a "kit", but it does come unpainted. I built many models when I was younger, however I never really bothered with painting them. Nor filling gaps with putty, warping pieces to make them fit correctly, etc. I mostly just took the parts out of the box and glued them together as-is. Now I look at kits and think that it would be a waste to just do that.

Putting models together is not my favorite thing to do. I agree with you about superglue! I have yet to find a glue that works as advertised. My enjoyment comes in painting the models and creating a platform for them to sit on. Lighting the models is something I like to do because light brings these things to life but I have a lot to learn about wiring and soldering though I’m getting better. Keep building stuff and I appreciate your comments on my videos!
