Losi LMT vs the Axial SMT10 and Other Solid Axle Monster Trucks

🔥 Losi LMT RTR Grave Digger or Son-uva Digger: bit.ly/LosiLMT
🔥 Losi LMT Roller: bit.ly/LMTroller
It's only been announced for a little over a week, but the buzz is real and everyone is talking about the new Losi LMT. Is it bigger? Is it 1/8 scale? Can it race in Pro-Mod classes? Is it worth the money? (the answer to that is a resounding yes, but not discussed in this video).
I don't answer all the questions in this video, but I can understand them. I thought the truck was 1/8 scale when I first saw it. It looks bigger, because of the body size and how high it sits on the truck. When we got the trucks to make the Losi video, they didn't have a box or instructions, so it wasn't clear. Losi's site even to this day has it listed in the specs as 1/8 scale while the box clearly says it's 1/10 scale. But as you'll see in this video, it's actually similarly sized to the SMT10 and other trucks we race as 1/10 vehicles. The real question that will need to be addressed by your leagues is the addition of the center diff and if you need to replace it with a spool that Losi will be selling.
Just looking at specs, the Axial SMT10 wheelbase is 13.9" and the Losi LMT is 13.5"
Let's take a quick look at the trucks.

    Thanks man. Helpful video. I just want to dip my toes back in the hobby so I just picked up the new release smt10....as I couldnt justify spending $600 for what I want to do. Even though the losi looks and performs perfectly. Another youtube video breifly compared the lmt with a stock smt10...and it made the axial look dinky. Seeing them both with real monster truck tires, side by side and measured took away my buyer's remorse for not springing for losi lol.

    I got the Axial Gravedigger figuring I'd save $300 over the Losi. I now spent $300 in upgrades.....Bl motor/ESC, Beef tubes, lights, metal drive shafts, titanium steering links, etc. Oh well, at least I have a fun project putting in all the parts. All in all I like the Axial with it's more scale cage, but it's downfall is that it's just a tarted up crawler, where the Losi is designed from the ground up. I may end up getting the Losi when they come back in stock.

Classes.. and give more people more options than like 1/10 classes . This what I think.... but hopefully someone let them know at these company's that make these at what I have said.. hopefully!! Little early to request that. Hardly anyone makes 1/10 scale ones that are race ready yet. I could see them going bigger if these sell, but it gets very expensive because sizing these up and making durable axles gets expensive. But I’d love to race my Bari Build and Raminator.

  • @Faq-ubeach

    @@CCxRC I wonder if "race ready" will hurt sales. Let me explain. Most of us like the hobby because it allows us to build. I bet most people spend more time fixing or improving them than driving them...but if there's nothing left to do really, then that takes away a huge part of the hobby. The body is perfect, the tires are the right size, the details are awesome, it already comes brushless...and from what I've seen, it's unbreakable. So aside from drive it...what am I supposed to do? I wonder if it'd have been smarter to take away some of that awesomeness, lower the price way down and offer that same awesomeness back as upgrade parts. $600 is steep for non hobbyists. The smt10 is half that price. Not that I'm complaining! It's perfect! And for those willing to spend that price, they're getting value. Just wondering if a different strategy would help appeal to more.

  • @CCxRC

    @CCxRC

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@Faq-ubeach It doesn't say that on the box...,but if we are talking about making new RCs for racing when almost no company makes one for the 1/10 race platform...this is as close to Race Ready as they come. The box just calls it the Ultimate Solid-Axle Monster Truck....so "race ready" shouldn't hurt sales.

  • @Faq-ubeach

    @Faq-ubeach

    @@CCxRC No no, I get that. We're deeming it "race ready", not them. My point is, is that they've made something that is practically race ready....so there's nowhere for us to really go with it, modification wise. Its already finished. Short of dropping it off my house to break it, I don't have any glaring faults to make stronger. And it's costs makes it hard for me to justify for just bashing. I wonder if that won't hurt its sales.

    You can put JConcepts Tribute wheels on them. The clearance is tight, but fits. Losi built a race truck. These wheels don't balloon as much and hold the bead better under the power they put in these trucks...and these have bigger hexes that can withstand the abuse such heavy tires put on them. Maybe it's the horizon tax, maybe it's me being an engine nut and the MC being available glow(As mine is; that KE-25 is a ripper!), but I'm just not seeing any reason to get the LMT over the Kyosho chassis.

    I looked for a Mad Crusher to buy to add to the comparison...but like most Kyosho stuff, availability is a big issue. Our shop had one on the shelf for a long time and it was the expensive one. I wasn't sure that our league would let them compete with the chain drive transmission, and the wheels definitely wouldn't be allowed to run, so I didn't get it. I went back to buy it after getting the LMT to compare and it was finally sold. I've looked online and couldn't find it in any of the big shops. It's one truck I can't honestly compare.

    Race clubs need to go ahead and allow center diffs, the trucks handle a lot better with them.

    I understand your confusion about the scale. What Losi did was advertise 1/8 scale diffs! But it's still a 1/10 truck, but definitely bigger than the Axial.

    Depends what you measure to call it bigger. It does come with bigger wheels and tires. The wheelbase and track are similar. Body has been scaled up, but you can change that to make it look different for with truck.

    No. They are stock size Vanquish trailing arms. The Axial SMT10 wheelbase is 13.9" and the Losi LMT is 13.5"

    If you compare SMT10 grave digger vs LMT grave digger both the little drivers look the same size. The cage & body are much larger on LMT. So Losi definitely compared it to SMT and wanting to keep (or correct) the 10th scale proportions. SMT small tires & small body, LMT big tires & big body. Long story short: SMT wheelbase is way too long for stock small tires tires & body. And the LMT body is big but it’s crawlers/trail trucks size. Which is ironic because SMT is crawler converted to monster truck and LMT is ground up monster truck. I think LMT will look better parked next to Element RC Enduro Sendero or SCX10-3 Jeep Wrangler. But it will be a freak in monster truck world till it overthrows the stats quo and everyone starts using big scale crawler truck bodies

    Well put. There is one cut in the video and that’s where I said they have been sizing bodies wrong for them. I didn’t want to make it a negative on them as they are trying to make them fit multiple scales from Clod to SMT10 and custom chassis. But I do feel they are small when out in the big wheels if you keep the SMT10 length. The LMT is closer to looking proportional to me ( but too wide when compared to the real trucks). This video just wasn't to point out negatives, but to show that it's really the size that many of them are built to be in the Pro-mod class

    @@CCxRC I've said the same thing... from the side and front 3/4 the SUD LMT looks just like the real thing (proportions) but the body is about 3/4 inch to 1 inch too wide... I think Losi did a great job

    The first version took way too much money to upgrade it. The new version has steel transmission gears and a faster motor out of the box. Still, it requires about $200 more to make it really good.
