Here's some footage from my first glance at how Waste Management has been doing in the West Valley after the massive RecycLA transition. Despite the new "Think Green, Think Clean" trucks, I'm very excited to release this video for the two drivers featured in it - Armando Saavedra and his uncle Antonio Tinoco!
(0:00) - 213480: Many of you may know Armando from Instagram. He's one of the coolest drivers out there and has some neat connections to the history of the waste industry. Armando currently has two uncles who have been driving for WM for over 25 years - Antonio (featured) and Frank. He also had 2 uncles who were mechanics at WM Sun Valley for many years, and Armando's dad was a driver at Foothill Waste! Very impressive history. Anyway, for a while, Armando was driving one of the many CNG Amreps from the first batch of trucks WM ordered over a year ago, 213133. Earlier this summer, Armando sent me a pic of his NEW truck that he was rolling in - this dual tank Amrep! I've always had a thing for side mounted tanks, so I was really happy these were spec'd out this way. I've been meaning to get some video of Armando in action, and so Moises and I made a stop in Chatsworth on our way to GI to finally see Armando in action! He keeps the truck extremely clean and does a great job on route.
(5:01) - 213091: Armando told us his uncle was working in the section next to him, and so he called him up and told us where to look for him. Here's Antonio in one of my favorite new trucks around. This truck has been in service for almost a year I believe, yet looks like it's brand new! Unlike a majority of the RecycLA drivers, both Armando and Antonio work out of the West Valley Hauling site (the old Anderson yard). So this allows Antonio to wash his truck every day which explains why it looks so nice! I really like the looks of these LNG Petes, so I'm glad West Valley Hauling took this one in from AV.
(8:20) - 204W: At the end of the video is a photo of Armando and Antonio back in the old WMX days! The Mack MR was Antonio's truck and the little boy by the door is Armando. One of the coolest pictures I have EVER seen so thanks to Armando for sharing that!!

God damn, both trucks gotta be the freshest I've seen from WM so far! Love it when drivers take pride in their job especially in keeping those rigs clean. Loving that Pete a lot considering that I'm a big Peterbilt fan lol, but that Autocar was pretty awesome too considering it having dual CNG tanks. Love how they used the former Anderson yard as another RecyLA yard. Crazy how much waste industry history Armando and his family have which is pretty cool to share. WM must be a great company to work for in my opinion! Props to Armando and Antonio for putting on a show, sweet video man!

They sure do! I love the Pete as well, really wish WM bought 520s for RecycLA instead of ACX. I think it was a good idea turning Anderson into WV Hauling. Definitely agree! His ties to the company and industry in general are so awesome. Thanks dude!

Garbage Trucks of CA ok
The roof and side CNG tanks on the Amrep looks great, reminds me of Moreno Valley. Those dumpsters sure empty higher into the hopper on Amreps with the dual cart tippers. It must be since they have to put larger rubber stoppers on the forks to prevent the dumpsters from hitting the cart tippers. That was great seeing WM empty ex Athens dumpsters and nothing beats that picture at the end!

Dang dude! Really nice trucks you got here! I love how fresh they look, and I’m glad they don’t have the RecycLA boards haha. So cool how Armando got a dual tank CNG, this is definitely the first time I’m hearing of a truck like that. Looks real sharp! You got a lot of good stops too, those 9yds were a real treat. Good job to Armando for putting on such a good show with his truck! Now onto the Peterbilt.....man that truck looks fantastic! I’m so glad Sun Valley got that truck. Super fast first of all, and sounds really tough. I’m especially glad that it’s running on LNG, that fuel always sounds better than CNG. Those LED headlights flashing while it was driving was so eye catching. I hope they’re keeping this truck clean, it’s too good of a truck to be dirty lol. Nice photos at the end too! Really appreciate those old photos of WM back in he day. It’s so cool how Armando’s relatives worked in the industry too! Great video as always man!!

Awesome video! That’s really neat that Armando and Antonio both have lots of family in the industry!! I never really liked Amrep front loaders for some reason, maybe because I’m more of a Heil or McNeilus kinda guy, especially since I’m from the Midwest, but these trucks look pretty rugged on the 320. That dumpster at 07:58 was interesting too, never seen a dumpster of that size with that many castors, or any at all haha. Cool picture at the end too, that’s one neat truck!! Keep up the great filming!!

Thanks! Yeah I think it's awesome! Haha Amrep FLs are definitely my favorite, really like the shape and the arms tend to move much quicker in comparison to Heil and McNeilus even at idle. Thanks for the comment!

WMmaster626 Haha maybe I wasn’t specific enough.... I like the look of a Heil or McNeilus. But you got that right, an Amrep is far more productive. They seem last a lot longer than most other bodies too

Those are some good looking trucks!! It's awesome that they take such pride in their job and have also been involved in the industry for so long! Does 213091 also do a lot of carts as well? And damn that must be a hassle at 7:58 trying to maneuver and not hit anything with the 2 heavy 6 yards. Can't believe they put them on wheels lol. Cool video Aaron!

They sure are! They both have a few carts on their Thursday route but not many in general. Unfortunately none on Friday or I would have definitely waited to catch that. Haha! I would have thought so too but Antonio made it look easy ;-) Thanks man!

Awesome video! I’m guessing this was pre recycle dumpster delivery for most areas? I didn’t see too many recycle dumpsters, but nice catch on the Athens dumpsters. Nice find on the LNG Peterbilt! Wow that business at 7:25 has TWO trash dumpsters? I would request for one to be painted blue lol. Nice picture of the MR Octo at the end, does WM still have their Mack Hardox and Mack Octo?

Thanks! No this was only 3 months ago, most people were already set up and compliant. Many of the stops were pull out so it may just seem like it was all trash dumpsters in the video. Most of the enclosures we went by had trash and recycle. That stop with the 2 - 6 YD bins is actually a huge government building (like probably more than a dozen floors), I was surprised they didn't have more bins honestly. They definitely have recycling there too. Unfortunately they do not have those trucks anymore, they were my favorite and really wish I caught them in action :(
