San Diego -- Residential (WM)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Waste Management of San Diego is one of the largest haulers within the county. Their fleet consist of a wide variety of residential trucks, including Amreps, Wittkes, Curotto Cans, and McNeilus AFEs. In this video, you will see ten garbage trucks that run throughout different regions of San Diego, including 4s Ranch, Mira Mesa, and Rancho Bernardo.
I spent the past week in San Diego, and on a couple mornings, I had the lucky opportunity to meet up with Alex who showed me some of the neat trucks that WM runs in the area. Being a huge Mack fan, especially for the old LNG trucks, I found many of their trucks very entertaining.
(0:00) - 263981: On Tuesday, Alex took me to a route about five minutes from my hotel in Mira Mesa to find the number one truck I wanted to see from El Cajon. This truck is an old Baldwin Park unit that was sent down about a year ago. I was a bit disappointed at first until I saw that El Cajon had repainted this truck. It looks AMAZING! And when I saw how Martin, a 26 year veteran at El Cajon, operates it, I couldn't be happier that Baldwin Park sent it down. Martin used to drive that revving dual axle Curotto that a bunch of guys have filmed, so I knew he would be fast, but didn't expect him to be this fast. I love how he flew through the lines and revved the last cart that he collected. Couldn't expect much more out of this truck - it was fantastic to see it again (I ended up seeing it three days in a row haha). This truck is also special to me because I completed the transfer paperwork for this and 263983 when I started my internship at WM last summer.
(13:38) - 101454 & 265380: On Thursday, Alex and I tried out Coast Waste in Rancho Santa Fe, but with not much luck, we headed out to WMSD territory. We checked out a few ex-ESD HOA routes and found Alex's long time friend Fausto in 101454 and Chris Mendoza in 265380. Very cool route with some entertaining trucks, old ESD carts, and nice drivers.
(19:21) - 263278: We found this old Curotto Can working recycle in 4s Ranch with Francisco behind the wheel.
(19:55) - 101455: Here is one of the recycle trucks in 4s Ranch. I love these old Crocodiles, and to me, they look really nice with the door folded up like this, so I wanted to grab a quick clip. Really like how this guy operated the truck. Didn't rev as hard but the arm was super quick.
(20:29) - 263582: We were going through another portion of route in 4s Ranch when we spotted this truck. Alex knew it was the last tri-axle carry can in the yard, but what surprised us the most was who was driving - Rafael. I saw Rafael the day before in his regular truck, an ACX/Curotto, so I was very surprised to see him in a carry can. His truck overheated, so they put him in a carry can for the day. And wow, he sure can move! Before getting a Curotto Can in 2015, he was one of the fastest semi-auto drivers out of El Cajon according to Alex, so I was glad to see that in person. I was originally going to grab a few clips, but I was so entertained I ended up getting a whole video that will be posted at a later date. Rafael is another driver that Alex has known for almost 10 years now. Before anyone says something about the seat belt rule, there is a reason behind it. A residential driver in Carlsbad was killed in a freak accident, and after an OSHA investigation, the seat belt rule became mandatory.
(21:48) - Here are a few of the other residential WM trucks I saw around San Diego, including 263297, 105300, 101490, and 105302, as well as some of the neat ex-ESD cart lines we saw.
I would like to give a huge thanks to all the very nice drivers at WM of San Diego for letting me film! They got some great guys down there. Another big thanks to Alex for taking me around twice during my trip - this guy knows every little corner of San Diego so that made filming extremely successful.
Hope you all enjoy!

Awesome video! First off, I apologize for being so behind, I've just been crazy busy lately. I love the first Curotto, I could watch that truck all day and it looks stunning. Those crocodiles have always been so much fun to watch, a shame they never caught on here. The ACX Amrep Curotto looks amazing as well, too bad those aren't more popular. I really enjoyed the carry can on recycle, I've always thought a semi auto recycling route would be a lot of fun. Those cart lines at the end were really cool too, great work!

Thank you! As always appreciate you taking the time to comment. Haha I felt the same way with the first truck. One of my personal favorites out there. Yeah the Crocodiles are super neat trucks! I wish they still had the big grippers though. Thanks bro!

Congratulations WMmaster626, you went to El Cajon and it was certainly a success. That Wittke/Leach at the begining is great, I wish Baldwin Park still had it but El Cajon is taking great care of it and it is amazing on this route. The large stops are fun to watch and it seems like everyone of those stops has one automated bin purchased from a resident. That Transformer Amrep Curotto Can cameo was great and its neat how he drives with the Curotto so close to the ground. I'm so glad you found a Wittke Crocodile. The Labrie grippers are neat but I wish at least one still had the original grippers. Those lid flips that close the lid were great. Is this the only Crocodile that is not Think Green labeled? I'm glad WM still has a few FL's with carry cans. Again congratulations on the video and it certainly did not disappoint!

Thanks Kevin!! El Cajon is AMAZING. I hope we can take a trip down there soon. I was very happy to see how El Cajon is running our old truck. I think Fernandez used to drive that one haha I noticed that the Amrep had its Curotto very close to the ground as well. I wish the Wittkes still had the big grippers too! There's actually only two Think Green crocodiles, although you know me - I wish they all were repainted haha glad you enjoyed!

Awesome video!! Thats so cool that you filed that paperwork for 981 just to see it working like a pro a few months later in its new place. That curotto can (well, more actually the drivers operating skills) nearly put me to sleep but in a good way lol. Very smooth and monotonous yet entertaining as hell. However, my favorite truck by far was 454! It did NOT treat those lids well at all! Awesome to see it whip those 30s and 60s lids shut... and i was waiting for a 90 too haha. Carry cans have also grown on me so it was fun to see a quick clip of that truck. Watched the whole thing and no regrets!

Thank you! Yes, I was beyond impressed with 981 and couldn't expect anything more from it really. Their crocodiles are awesome! I really enjoyed watching those and hope to find more in a few months. Appreciate it!

Great video. I'll be honest, I just like seeing someone doing what I do with palm trees in the background, vs. evergreen trees and snow. 😄. Driver seems to be pretty seasoned and hitting his marks. 👍🏻. I have my currotto can pressure (hydraulic) just to the point to where when I set most totes back down, the lids stay closed. I always went with the theory of "the neighborhood should look like it did before I arrived,, after I left",,,, but then again that makes for a slow currotto claw and longer day I guess.

This video was perfect timing for me, the majority of vids that I watched on KZread last week were of of El Cajon.. I absolutely love their fleet! The first Curotto driver might be the best operator in a Curotto I have ever seen, certainly in the top 5. Looks amazing too! I hope they keep these Wittkes around for while! That Crocodile was super awesome! Probably my favorite one ever! I dont think ive ever seen one slam so many lids shut...Might be a solution for G.I. industries lol. The carry can was cool too. I couldn't pick a definitive favorite truck, but it would probably have to be the crocodile. Does El Cajon have a lid flipping rule? Great video!

Thank you! I love El Cajon too! So many cool trucks in there and the pure size of the fleet is impressive. Haha I'm sure all the slamming makes for an increase in cart replacement. GI's got their operation down, their ASLs are some of the fastest around despite no lid flipping. No lid flipping rule at El Cajon as far as I know. Appreciate the comment!

Hey look, it's mah hometown trucks! I'm a little bummed I didn't join you guys, but I was in Utah this past week and Curotto cans aren't really my thing. Glad you could get this footage of what El Cajon has to offer, especially that crocodile, definitely my favorite trucks out of that yard. Alex is the man, his knowledge of the area just dwarfs mine, which isn't helped by my general distaste for the big green and the big blue, but that's not to say I don't love the occasional WM compilation from you and Harrison :) nice work!

Haha thanks man. Lots of good stuff down in El Cajon, I absolutely love their old Macks. Just like I told him, any company in San Diego that is willing to hire Alex will in no way regret their decision. He'd make an awesome manager with how well he knows the layout of the area.

San Diego is interesting in that it has multiple haulers working throughout the city. Waste Management and Allied Waste are two of the haulers within the city.
