It would have been more popular if she released it sooner , I understand the making music isn't easy and it takes time to make a great album . Not to mention the obvious reason of the consolidation of the "relatability" factor that would be explored throughout the decade (and yes, it had technically been done before, but it was the first time it had hit such a massive audience).

@Saad Right? People don't think she writes her own lyrics or even a majority of them, but that's not true. Have they seen the making of Power video? Katy is actually kind when it comes to songwriting. Someone can edit just a few words and be counted as a songwriter (Katy gave Dagny credit on "Love You Like That" despite her even saying Katy needed to give her credit). Most of the additional songwriters on her songs are like editors, recommenders or like mentors. Katy comes up with the ideas and she asks the other songwriters for help to make it sound better. Katy CAN write on her own songs alone. She did it when she was 16, so I'm sure she can still do it today!

I remember watching this when I was 12, thinking how incredible she is, but at the same time how scary it must have been to be a kiwi teenager on such as massive stage. Now I'm 17, the same age she is here and I went to her Solar Power show just last week, and she is radiant and confident (and I touched her hand!!!).

man looking back at this song I paid no attention to the ideas in it, now watching this awards, I can see the genius and thought that went into this masterpiece one hit wonder and how Lorde deserves this, yes she has many great songs each amazing, but Royals came out of nowhere and earned song of the year.. thats insane!

This song by Lorde makes a great criticism of this very generic little song by katy perry and other artists. the Grammy was fair and it didn't just look at the "hit".

Dugan, the ex president of the academy told in one interview that Grammys weren’t given to the real artist as they get paid for the false winners or to promote young artist careers. She told roar was the real winner of best song of the year and best pop vocal performance. Am I telling that Lorde isn’t the real winner? No. After reading so so many facts about it I don’t think the info Dugan gave was 100% real. I mean we all know for example: 1- Mariah Carey was robbed at 1996 and 2005. 2- Nicki minaj, queen of rap, and even Superbass wanst nominated. 3- kAty perry at least should won a Grammy, as well as Lana del Rey. Ariana this year? Are u comparing thank u next with when we all fall sleep...? No way.

The songs of 2016, every song in this category was ICONIC and I’m sad that they all didn’t get the Grammy!
