YOu should watch the extended version - you miss many things this way. The rope or the blankets were gifts from Galadriel, that's why they were able to disguise themselves with that blanket so that it looked like a stone. And that's why the rope untied itself. But there is a lot more in the extended versions, and still not everything from the books is there.

I might beg to differ. I think (and no, I don't feel) that the hold at Helm's Deep and the ending of Saruman's stronghold were what made this entry extra good. Quote me on extra good.

Some things really make more sense when you have read the book. Like Gandalf returning after having fought the Balrog. Being a wizard Gandalf is basically an immortal being and servant of the Valar, who was sent from Valinor (the Undying lands in the West where most oft the Elves have went) to Middle Earth to help fight Sauron. His appearance as an old man is just a given outer form. After defeating the Balrog he was sent back as the White wizard (the mightiest oft the wizards, and the one that Saruman should've been before falling to the dark side). After having been sent back, Galadriel took care of him and he went to Fangorn, where he met the remaining from the fellowship of the ring.

Rohan is an analog for the Anglo-Saxons who established and ruled England from about 500-1000 AD. The language they are speaking is Old English, which is an old germanic language

the Lohtûr (Rohirim) did not speak Old English, but Tolkien used Old English for their names to show the difference between the Westron speaking Hobbits and Gondorim on one and the Rohirim on the other side. Old English is used here in contrast to the modern English of the book. But not in contrast to the languages which were spoken in Middle Earth Lore.

The instrument you may be loving a lot isn’t a violin! It’s a Nordic instrument called the Hardanger fiddle! (Norwegian: hardingfele) is a traditional stringed instrument considered to be the national instrument of Norway. In modern designs, this type of fiddle is very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and thinner wood. The F-holes of the Hardanger fiddle are distinctive, oftentimes with a more “sunken” appearance, and generally straighter edges (unlike the frilly, swirly F-holes of a violin). Four of the strings are strung and played like a violin, while the rest, named understrings or sympathetic strings, resonate under the influence of the other four. These extra strings are tuned and secured with extra pegs at the top of the scroll, effectively doubling the length of a Hardingfele scroll when compared to a violin. The sympathetic strings, once fastened to their pegs, are funneled through a “hollow” constructed fingerboard, which is built differently than a violin’s, being slightly higher and thicker to allow for these extra strings. The resonant strings lay on the center of the special bridge, attached to extra hooks (or fine-tuners) on the tailpiece. Carved out within the center of the bridge is a smaller secondary “bridge”, or opening, designed specifically for these resonant strings to pass through. This is where the resonance is picked up & reverberated; as notes are played, the vibrations are sent through the bridge, where the sympathetics echo those notes. • The Hardingfele’s bridge is unique compared to other bowed instruments. It is somewhat taller and wider, resulting in the strings being slightly lower and farther apart; this allows for the easy execution of double-stops (playing of two strings at once). A similar technique is seen in some American old-time and bluegrass fiddlers, who intentionally move their bridge back a few millimetres closer to the tailpiece, for better double-stops. The hardingfele is used mainly in the southwest part of Norway, whereas the ordinary violin (called flatfele, 'flat fiddle', or vanlig fele, 'common fiddle') is found elsewhere. The hardingfele is used for dancing, accompanied by rhythmic loud foot stomping. It was also traditional for the fiddler to lead the bridal procession to the church. The instrument is often highly decorated, with a carved animal (usually a dragon or the Lion of Norway) or a carved woman's head as part of the scroll at the top of the pegbox, extensive mother of pearl inlay on the tailpiece and fingerboard, and black ink decorations called 'rosing' on the body of the instrument. Sometimes pieces of bone are used to decorate the pegs and the edges of the instrument. The earliest known example of the hardingfele is from 1651, made by Ole Jonsen Jaastad in Hardanger, Norway. Originally, the instrument had a rounder, narrower body. Around the year 1850, the modern layout with a body much like the violin became the norm. considered to be the national instrument of Norway. In modern designs, this type of fiddle is very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and thinner wood. Proud Norwegian here. This makes me so happy to have such an ancient and magical instrument immortalized in these movies. ❤ many covers of songs are done in with these such instruments too which is also pretty awesome.

The part about the dead marshes includes Legolas’s Father; Thranduil, & Thranduil’s father Oropher, were to join the Last Alliance in from a different angle to achieve a certain war tactic but Oropher and others got waylayed by orcs & many corrupted men which lead to eventually Oropher dying there, this loss effected Legolas’s father so very deeply forevermore. The bond between he and his son is the same bond Thranduil has with Legolas. And the braid he wears is to honour his grandfather. I believe after his death braids became less common. A sort of respect thing I believe. Both his father and Grandfather lived in Doriath(Elu Thingol’s domain[Elwë], which was heartbea of middle earth; Aside from Gondolin which held this mantle until it’s secret location was given up by a tortured elf who was the son of a very important mother who was the sister of the high king Turgon). All on a landmass called Beleriand that sunk under the sea after a set of disastrous events that lead to many greater outcomes much later on in the legendarium. This here is a whole set of stories of which also includes a quite a bit of Galadriel too but moreso other characters during this era. Of Beren And Lùthien comes to mind and Children Of Hurin!! You’ll fall in love even more after the third movie. Then you can enter into the lore videos like Moviejoob and OmarioRPG have done reaction videos too. Amazing stuff. One thing to add though is this scene resembles a lot from the other battle Tolkien was involved in called The Battle Of Somme. Look into it and tell me your thoughts. I’ll add something here though: that clan of elves really didn’t like being under the command of anyone else so they went ahead without the order and let’s just say it didn’t end well. That and they weren’t fond of the Ñoldor… huge history there as to why that is. That and the Sindar subgroup of these clans were a tiny bit more isolationist. But there are many amazing Sindar in the legendarium too Elrond and his two sons and daughter are connected to all of the main clans of men and elves through the union of his half elf father and full elf(quarter goddess) mother. Who essentially played a huge role in saving the world from the original dark lord Morgoth. Gained the Favour Of Valinor. Which subsequently lead to Numenor being a gift from the sea to the men who helped. Becoming blessed. Their land existing within the light of Valinor as it was situated closely to The Undying Lands. (The same ancestry Aragorn has that Èowyn spoke of while they were travelling to Helm’s Deep! (Elrond’s Twin Brother became the first king of Númenor. His name becoming Tar-Minyatur, and those faithful to Eru, the elves and the natural world all of this line carried Tar before their name! Ar for Aragorn is the word meaning Noble in his tongue called Adúnaic. That too is a fleshed out language Tolkien created too. Elvish languages also were placed into the official list of world languages too!

Gríma actually played a major role in the story of The Lord of the Rings prior to his first appearance in The Two Towers. In Unfinished Tales, Tolkien writes that on September 20 in 3018 Gríma was captured by the Nazgûl in the fields of Rohan, while on his way to Isengard to tell Saruman of Gandalf's arrival at Edoras. He was interrogated and divulged what he knew of Saruman's plans to the Nazgûl, specifically his interest in the Shire and its location, revealing the wizard's two-facedness towards the Dark Lord Sauron. Previously, the location of the Shire had been unknown to the Nazgûl, but they knew it to be the home of "Baggins," whom they thought still had the Ring. Wormtongue was set free, for the Lord of the Nazgûl saw that he would not dare tell anyone of their meeting and he guessed that he would be of much use to the Dark Lord (being a capable opportunist), while doing harm to the turncoat White Wizard in the future. The Nazgûl set out immediately for the Shire. Had the Ringwraiths not captured Gríma, they would instead have pursued Gandalf into Rohan, and possibly not have found the Shire until much later, giving the Hobbits and then the Fellowship of the Ring a considerable head start.

Galadriel is the one who pleaded the WindLord Gwaihir, one of the eagle formed Maiar), to go to the top of Durin’s Tower at Zirakzigil. He was recuperated by her own hand and skills. Bringing back a god of sorts is quite a feat which fits her prowess in several fields as she was known to have learned from all of the Valar, all that there was left to teach by each of them. The staff was given to him by Galadriel in Lothlórien and enhanced his powers upon his return. His old brown staff was a gift from Radagast (another wizard of the Istari Order after he escaped from Saruman’s current abode in Orthanc, hand carved from an old branch. The white staff was a gift from Galadriel, made by elven smiths from Mallorn wood. (Mallanornë by the elves. Interestingly looks similar to the elvish word for Friend, Mellon. But that’s just me being inquisitive.) That new staff before he sacrificed it to do a spell of sorts against the Balrog in Khazad-Dûm. That one was called Opening Flower. (His portrayal in The Hobbit movies are a little bit funny but it slightly sort of suits the aspect of that book which was more whimsical so I guess they wanted to make him act much different. Granted Radagast sort of strayed from the path but his main mission was to guard and protect nature itself on behalf of Yavannah. The Valar that chose him as her champion to head into middle earth with the other 4 istari. The white staff was most likely named something along the lines of Marta Nieninquë (Fated WhiteTearSnowflower), or Ninquelotë which is “White/snow Flower”. Or Ninquë Merillë “White Rose”. (Derivatives of Merillë is also Feast and Festive, think of his fireworks for example. Single rose is Meril or like single flower is Elloth. Another Elvish flower term is “ninglor” noun for golden water-flower, gladden. But since Mithrandir is his name by the elves for grey wanderer I wanted to add Mithril to the name of his new staff as it contains similarity to his elvish name so “Mithrillottë” meaning “Flower Of TrueSilver” Or maybe due to the snowy mountain he died upon, the new staff name could be “Olórin olea Ollosë” meaning “The Dream/Vision that bloomed and flourishes upon the Fallen Snow” by how it’s implied. Olórin is Gandalf’s real angelic name so it is basically describing how the dream of hope that rekindled itself in the harshest of conditions. Like a resilient type of flower, Ollosë is the fallen snow. Olea is the action of plants specifically growing & living. Another elvish flower name I love is for Daisy “Eirien”. Lothlórien itself means “DreamFlower”. Galadriel’s realm. ❤️ - (Elvish had grown ALOT over the ages. Even some forms of elvish are even more archaic even for other elves who at times may experience a little bit of difficulty understanding or simply noting one’s accent and speed of which one talks internally.

Just for fun, I wanted to share more info about this world and some details about the characters -- Lord Denathore (the mean father/steward of Gondor in your upcoming part 2) is genuinely grieving AND insane. This is not made too clear in the movie, but Lord Denathore was horrible to Faramir because (according to Tolkien’s son) his wife died birthing him and in ancient times it was common for people to blame, hate, and shun such children. On top of this, Lord Denathore also had his own Palantir (the black ball Saruman uses to communicate w/ Sauron known as a Seeing Stone) like the one Saruman had. Like the ring, all things made by the Dark Lord/Sauron are full of his anger and ire and affects all those that use them or handle them. The first Dark Lord Melkor took some Elves hostage from Cuiviénen. He tortured them, beat them, and broke their bodies for generations into the first deformed and twisted beings known as Orcs. Sauron then took them and twisted them MORE by crossbreeding them further to make his Uruk-Hai. Gandalf is younger than Galadriel, for he is roughly only two thousand years old (‘only’ haha…) whereas Galadriel is many MANY millennia older than him. If you were to ask which is older: Galadriel or Olorin (Gandalf's natural form), well, that would be another matter. Gandalf is the physical incarnated human-like form of an immortal god-like/angelic being of supreme power. Keep in mind that Gandalf is one who was present and party to the creation of Arda (the Earth, our world) named "Olorin". He was tutored under Lorien (a Vala) and Nienna (one of the Aratar: ‘High Ones’), both of whom are essentially gods. Olorin has in fact been incarnated as an elf before he took his human Istari form. So Gandalf (as Gandalf) is a few millennia younger than Galadriel, but his essential substance (his soul or spirit, if you will) is/was existent ‘before’ Time was even a concept. A general list for all major characters during the LotR: Eowyn - 24 Eomer - 28 Pippin - 29 Faramir - 36 Merry - 37 Samwise - 39 Boromir - 41 Frodo - 51 Theoden - 71 Aragorn - 88 Denethor - 89 Bilbo - 129 Gimli - 140 Gollum - aprox. 589 Arwen - 2901 Legolas - 2931* (exact age not known, but Tolkien's son did say, years ago, that Legos has older siblings and he looks the most like his mother and that is why his father is over protective of him for many ages until he has a vision that Legolas will go to Aragon and befriend him; only then does he let him go. He leaves a boat for him that Legolas later takes to the Undying lands and brings elderly Gimli with him after they've travel the world together.) Radagast the Brown (Aiwendil) - Unknown (Like Gandalf he too was a Maia spirit of Yavanna from Valinor and inhabited peacefully in Middle-earth in the year 1000 3A. During his first years in Middle-earth, Radagast would protect the great forests.) Gandalf (Olórin) - 3000* (exact age is not specified, but he is considerably younger than both Galadriel and Elrond. He is not immortal nor a God, but more of an angelic being called a Maia. Gandalf walked in Middle-earth for approximately 2,019 years, un-aging and appearing as a grey bearded human of about 60 years old or so. He was around long before Middle-earth was created and before the Years of the Lamps. He, Saruman and Sauron are approximately the same age - give or take.) Saruman (Curumo) - 3300** (Guestimations in fandom based purely on ability and strengths only experience and age could grant) Sauron 3790** (Guestimations in fandom based purely on ability and strengths only experience and age could grant) Elrond - 6000+ Galadriel - 7000+ Alatar - Unknown (Alatar (Quenya - "After-Comer"), meaning Darkness-slayer, was a Maia and an immortal Istar Wizard. He travelled to Middle-earth in the Second Age with Rómestámo (Pallando), and they became the Ithryn Luin, or "Blue Wizards". -- Pallando - Unknown Balrog Unknown Eru Oldest being in all of creation - Exact Age Unknown

Tolkien, (The OG of all Authors) was a veteran of the First World War and many other battles such as The Battle Of Somme etc. his works of art were to give back to the England as a form of restoring lost mythologies that he himself was a master of since he was a top professor of philology at Oxford. He did ALOT of his writing while in the trenches during WWI during small “breaks” while down in those trench forts built into the ground. And while he eldest son was in the Second World War; his Lord Of The Rings writings was strictly created above all else to give his eldest something to read while stationed wherever he was stationed. I forgot that part. They sent letters back and forth about it all the time. He was also the one and only son that actually protected his fathers legacy and work. A lot of his other work were put together BY his son after his father passed away. It’s well worth to react to the documentary behind the scenes film the director and crew and cast created together as well as the interview with the son Christopher Tolkien who you get to sort of enjoy a nice indoor and outdoor chat for like what came to about 1-2 hours of wonderful footage from an era that really must not be forgotten. His work shed a light on things like The Finnish Kalevala, Norwegian Elder Edda, The Welsh Mabinogion, The Norwegian Nibelungen, The Indian Bhagvagita & Several Irish Folklore + other Cultural things! The man also restored and translated ancient relics for the governments as one everyone trusted. Much of what’s in our dictionary come from his efforts as well. Anytime he spoke & even posted several comments into the paper as an editorial or response to certain issues as a very involved man for the world and the environment everyone turned their head to listen to him as everyone knew his worth and respected him greatly. His works show how NOT to glorify war; shows in the films if you pay close attention while watching the next films. Sharing what you know now via the after thoughts at the end of the second film! Remember. Extended edition. There is a lot missed out on especially in the second movie regarding Boromir backstory which there is much more in the books but the films WANTED to keep more but the cinemas and Harvey Weinstein literally harangued him into making a “theatrical cut” which is why you have two versions. The real version and the “theatrical cut”. It was all to make more money for the company that is the theatres/cinemas. To get more showings in per day during the year. And believe me. People were camping outside and travelling the country to watch it MORE THAN ONCE. His creations literally lead to inspiring the most currently famous books games & movies we all literally wouldn’t have enjoyed and be touched to our souls core without him and his spiritually connected brilliance. That and he was a philologist professor at Oxford first and foremost which covers so many things. Not just linguistic. The man was a true genius and Jack of all trades but ultimately LOVED the simple life. The inspiration for Lord of the Rings was not any war, but author J.R.R. Tolkien's love of language. Especially Welsh, Finnish and Old English. He lamented the loss of any true English folklore, that was wiped out after the Norman invasion of 1066, so Tolkien wrote many books on these new "legends" he came up with himself. Much of which is centered around three languages he fully developed himself. Two Elven languages and Dwarvish., Númenorean Adunaic, Black Speech(warped Numenorean and elvish) They all have syntax, vocabularies, and a whole writing system that can be learned as the Tengwar alphabet is moreso to match with the spoken elvish rather than one to one for other country’s alphabet. Hundreds of people worldwide speak elvish fluently. Tolkien did draw upon his personal experience in the trenches of World War ONE, not Two, as inspiration for some parts, most notably, the Dead Marshes that Frodo and Sam and Gollum pass through in The Two Towers. But war was not the inspiration for the entire series. World Of Warcraft. Skyrim, Harry Potter, Diablo, D&D, even Warhammer and so forth wouldn’t have. Existed without taking inspiration from and or completely ripping off from Tolkien. Many great documentaries to react to about him also more about him and AWESOME stuff from the hours & hours of behind the scenes documentaries from the DVDs of the movies which are also on KZread & I can send you a playlist to react to from top to bottom on the channel called Pajasek99. I’d also like to explain Gandalf a bit too: Tolkien drew alot of inspiration from the norse mythology. Magical rings, Gandalf (Staff elf in old norse), Gandalfs outfit (Odin), Gandalfs title 'the grey wanderer' (Odin), Shadowfaxe (The horses of day and night Rhimfaxe and Skinfaxe), Trolls, elves, dwarves etc. * Odin had a legendary horse, Sleipnir, who had eight legs and was said to be one of the greatest horses known to the gods. Gandalf had Shadowfax, who had no equal among horses in Middle-earth and could understand the speech of men. * Ødin’s legendary gear-the spear Gungnir and the ring Draupnir-could have influenced Gandalf’s legendary sword Glamdring or, more likely, the magic staff he carries, while the ring possibly influenced Gandalf’s possession of the ring Narya (Sturlson 145). * Gandalf and Odin both receive new wisdom as a result of sacrifice, as Gandalf is reincarnated after his fight with the Balrog, and Ødin gains power and wisdom after hanging himself on the tree Yggdrasil for nine days (Sigfusson 80-85). * One of the most apparent ways in which Gandalf and Ødin are alike is that they both take the shape of an old grey pilgrim, with a wide-brimmed hat and grey cloak when they wander the mortal world and deal with the inhabitants (Pitts 7). * Gandalf and Ødin are virtually reflections of each other, as can be observed through examining their gear and animal companions, the way they sacrificed themselves and were rewarded with wisdom, and the fact that they walk the earth as old men in tattered clothing. The Renowned Steeds of Gandalf and Odin Gandalf and Ødin both have renowned horses and staves with magical properties. Odin carries the legendary spear Gungnir, which is said never to miss its mark when thrown (Sturlson 145); however, he also carries it as his staff when he wanders the earth as an old man. In the Poetic Edda, the Valkyrie Sigrdrifa advises Sigurd about the magical application of runes and tells him that there are runes inscribed on the tip of Gungnir (Sigfusson 291). This spear could be a parallel to Glamdring( High Elven King Turgon’s sword, that was forged for the Goblin wars but is most likely influential to the staff Gandalf carries on his journeys. Strikingly similar to Shadowfax, Odin possesses a legendary horse named Sleipnir, who has eight legs and can run on the ground and through the air at great speeds. This sounds very similar, in some ways, to Tolkien’s description of Shadowfax in The Two Towers, “Shadowfax tossed his head and cried aloud as if a trumpet had summoned him to battle. Then he sprang forward. Fire flew from his feet; night rushed over him” (Tolkien 228). Elden Ring, Dungeons And Dragons, Diablo, Zelda, Harry Potter, vamp diaries, Red Sonja, Oath Breakers, Dragon Lance, Willow, Conan, Swords and Magic, Highlander movie+series and so much more were inspired by Tolkiens works.

Hello guys! Love these movies and love watching your reactions! The author J.R.R. Tolkien created the languages in his books. @ 31:00 the cloak is from the elves, it can provide camouflage and look like the surroundings As another comment pointed out, there are a lot of Christian themes in the LOTR. There are many "Christ figures" in the story. Gandalf is one. He leads his friends through the Mines of Moria (from death to life), he fights the Balrog (demon/death) and returns as Gandalf the White (resurrection)

When you said Gandalf was a beacon of hope. With that single sentence you described him perfectly. The Istari (the wizards) are all basically angels sent from Valinor (a realm as close to heaven as it is possible to get) to guide the free people's and to bring hope. But their powers were severely limited because they were not supposed to lead or rule. This is why Saruman's treachery was such a big thing.

Gandalf (Olórin) is the same species of being as the Balrogs/Sauron before twisted by Melkor[Morgoth]. They are all Maiar (primordial spirits) created by Eru’s Thought (extensions of Eru Îlluvatar himself whilst they had their own free will & individuality. He essentially got the chance to experience and study other parts of himself through this.) among the other Ainur before the Years of the Lamps roughly 9,000+ years before arriving in Middle-earth; In Valinor he was known as Olórin.(Remember though he formally existed before the world existed and his form becoming Gandalf hadn’t happened yet. He was sent to Middle-earth in human form around the year 1000 of the Third Age. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ So his many forms had different ages in length of existing. He’s very cool right! Could he get any cooler!? 😎❤️ Another thing is when he arrived in middle earth he was disguised as an elf & lived among them whilst they were unknowing & he became to be known as Mithrandir to the Quendi/Eldar❤️ He could have very well dwelled with the elves far earlier just do to his curiosity & simple desire to explore and be around the firstborn (TheElves) Gandalf The Grey/White Estimated at 15,000 years old (following his quote "300 lives of men, I have walked this earth"), It says that Gandalf was the wisest of the Maiar besides Melian herself. There were a lot of Maiar that were considered really great and powerful. 300 lives of men, according to Tolkien, the average life span of a man is 70 years. So, 300 x 70 is 21000 years. (For his full ainur age but before the dawn of Arda Gandalf was ancient and timelessly so. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ However, there is a much longer answer. Like Sauron(former name is Mairon) & the other Istari (the order sent around the same time & of which he was appointed leader but he being who he is & a student of the Vala by the name Nienna & Lorien(Irmo). Gandalf was one of the Maiar, an angelic spirit created by Eru at the beginning of time and therefor one of the many Ainur who sang the world into being & Eru just helped their creation take shape and basically stated “behold YOUR creation” & basically what happens in that world goes sort of preordained as by that song eons ago so really only the ages after Dagor Dagorath will truly be an age that isn’t full of strife; sadness; and longing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Also. These lamps are what were before even the two trees. These were Giant mountains but also like light houses but housing a great power but it may have also been where two special Maia lived that helped in the creation in the sun and moon after Melkor With eldrich terror Ungoliant killed the trees, so yea “Arien” is the Maia who basically exists with the sun and her brother and or lover of sorts is the one who wanders with and guides the moon. Of which that other Maia was “Tillion” Galadriel herself not only witnessed this but as a student of Aulë and the other Valar she obviously had involvement in helping create the hallowed objects that housed the final flower of the silver tree Telperion that was the father of the moon and the mother of the sun was Laurëlin the golden tree and prior to the sun and moon they too used to wax and wane!

One thing about the heroes being very merciful towards their enemies is that the author Tolkien was a very pious christian so heroes like Aragorn exemplify virtues like forgiveness towards ones enemies. The bad guys are very selfish unmerciful and destructive and ultimately stupid. Mercy might seem stupid but it's all about being morally incorruptible even if the world is ugly. Tolkien also believed that everyone could be redeemed. And that evil cannot create but only twist. Technically even an orc can be a good person. They've just been twisted into evil over countless years. In the beginning orcs were elves. And men. Twisted and degenerated by evil into something selfish, violent and ugly. Unlike elves like Legolas they don't have those angelic elven senses and wisdom. Instead they're blind, sinful and easily manipulated.

So little fun fact about the flag; that wasn't planned. The location they were filming is pretty high in the New Zealand mountains. As such, it is incredibly windy. So windy that the flag ended up tearing off the pole and flying. And it somehow landed in the perfect spot. When Aragorn's actor was looking up, that was his real reaction. The filmers and director loved that so much they kept it in.

Saruman never served Sauron nor bent to him at all in the books. The Gandalf locked in the Tower bit is explained ONLY in the Unfinished Tales Book: In [manuscript-C) The Black Riders arrived at the Gate of Isengard while Gandalf was still a prisoner in the tower. In this account, Saruman, in fear & despair, & perceiving the full horror of service to Mordor, resolved suddenly to yield to Gandalf, & to beg for his pardon & help. Temporizing at the Gate, he admitted that he had Gandalf within, & said that he would go & try to discover what he knew; if that were unavailing, he would deliver Gandalf up to them. Then Saruman hastened to the summit of Orthanc - & found Gandalf gone. Away south against the setting moon he saw a great Eagle flying towards Edoras. See, the thing is he was always master of studying the enemy & even being able to think like they do to always know exactly the best ways to handle ever situation and so on, but the thing is he didn't just become the enemy, he at this time in a sense for once actually grew afraid of him, probably Sauron did what Sauron did with Finrod Felagund in the duel of visions, (Galadriel’s elder brother who by the way was the most important in the Legendarium & is the main reason the third age even exists) which basically widdled Saruman with various visions of the past and future until it wore him down, but Saruman(Curumo) was the mostly already becoming weary due to what was called The Long Defeat, magic bleeding out from the lands of middle earth and subsequently certain things become less and less possible and the elves begin to go west. Even the ones who never wished to leave middle earth and many of which were born here by the thousands. So him also being a student and helper of Aulë of the Valar he was going to fight fire with fire and make a bid for the ring just so Sauron could never regain full power and if Saruman found a way to release himself from his power restrictions even by any small margin or worked with Eru in some way it might have worked out in the end if things went differently enough to where such action from him would be needed. Ontop of that he was growing ever jealous of Gandalf for he received the Varya from Círdan and prior to that was chosen by the other Valar, Nienna’s chosen champion to go to middle earth. But Gandalf(Olórin back then) refused over and over and exclaimed his fear of Sauron(Mairon), varya I feel would have kindle the heart of Saruman to stay strong as he had been fighting the evils of the world for a very long time since he had been sent to Middle Earth. And for the is reason Saruman wished to hold the ring at hostage. Keep Sauron from taking back his full strength and basically use it to stave off The Long Defeat. Saruman is very complex. The Hobbit movies actually shows how he was even 60 years ago during Bilbo’s story. He was one of the main forces thwarting Sauron for over 2000 years. The Númenoreans: the high men of the west; gifted Saruman with Orthanc which was of their making. Now known as Isengard. - saruman is actually trying to doublecross sauron. He wants the ring for himself. He thinks he can control it. The little orcs around saruman are from mordor - sauron's orcs sent to help saruman but also to spy on him. The big fighting orcs - the uruk hai - are loyal only to saruman. Orcs are like that. But its why saruman's orders are a bit vague - to avoid sauron's orcs knowing what saruman is doing. The movies dont make this bit of the story very clear. But notice that, while saruman knows where the fellowship is he never lets Sauron Know.

Gandalf returning has to do with what he is. "God" in this universe is named Eru Illuvatar (or just Eru) and much of the story mirrors Abrahamic scripture. He created orders of greater spirits (Valar) and lesser spirits (Maiar) which took many forms. The Valar are like the Arch Angels, and one of them, Melkor (who later took the name Morgoth) was the Valar of fire. He betrayed God and corrupted some of the Maiar, which is how the Balrogs were made (the fire demons). Gandalf slaying the Balrog wasn't just to try and save his own life but was considered a holy duty since he serves The Valar and by extension Eru, because the five wizards are Maiar who were loyal to God.

Ecthelion was a lord of Gondolin, and the warden of the city’s gate. He had been injured fighting through the city during its fall. The remaining forces were in the centre square, with the city’s Fountain (of which Ecthelion was lord of the people of the fountain). Gothmog, captain of the Balrogs, breaks through with the attack. He wounds Ecthelion, who - due to his injuries - cannot hold neither sword nor shield. So he leaps at Gothmog, rams his spiked(bladed helmet) helmet into the Balrog, and causes both of them to tumble into the Fountain. They are both too heavy to swim, and both injured, so they both drown (or have their inner fire extinguished). The steam from the fountain’s ruin adds to the chaos, assisting in some fleeing the city with Tuor, the princess Idril, and Glorfindel. Glorfindel was also a lord of Gondolin, who after the city fell was helping civilians flee. A Balrog was set on a mountain pass to ambush & genocide the citizens in what was known as Battle Of Sudden Flame. Glorfindel battles the Balrog solo, which culminates in both falling off the mountain into a ravine to their mutual destruction. (Remember the prologue war in the fellowship of the ring? See those curved Blade-Esque things ontop of the elvish men’s helmets? That’s due to the ancient battle of Echthelion and the Balrog at Gondolin making its way into augmented design for their armour.) So it’s also a theme that happens in the books where there usually is always something to do with falling into water. Except Fëanor who slayed several balrogs at once & Gothmog slayed him after one bound him suddenly when he was supposed to have a “one on one” duel with Gothmog but one wasn’t wanting to play fair. But he was fatally wounded and so his sons and host moved him away to a safe place where his body burned up from the fires of his own spirit. This was at The Battle Under Stars (Dagor Nuin Giliath). - Gandalf was “more powerful” than Echthelion and killed a Balrog of similar strength with the sword of Ecthelion's king! Plus, he took longer to kill his opponent. Meanwhile, Ecthelion took on the Lord of the Balrogs with nothing but his spiked helmet. Both heroes died in their attempt, but Gandalf was brought back. Was the description of Gandalf's fight epic? 100%. However, Ecthelion's kill was simply masterful. Gandalf merely killed one. But Ecthelion killed two Balrogs and when he exhausted he met the lord of Balrogs Gothmog, and he also managed to kill Gothmog even with all of his wounds, exhausted, and without his sword. In total he killed 3 Balrogs in the battle of Gondolin.

Aragorns ring - Once belonged to Galadriel’s dearest elder brother Finrod, Named Felagund by the dwarves he befriended, they gifted him one of their fortresses of Nargothrond and he even built it with them). He was the most famous Elf in the Legendarium aside from his uncle Fingolfin! It ended up being given to Barahir’s ancestors whob saved the life of Finrod during one of many great wars, & Barahir is closest relative to Aragorn through the line of Arathorn! And they connect directly to the house of Bëor. Which all three houses of the Edain were found & befriended by Finrod. First to discover Men before anyone else !! Not even the Valar save Melkor long LONG ago. They’ve been aware of him for a very long time & have been fighting him almost as long as the elves did but with no help during those darker times before the sun and moon were even born into the world after melkor and Ungoliant killed the two trees of silver and gold in Valinor. By the time the Gondorians lost Eärnur the Anorian line of Elendil got their cheeks clapped so hard they were reduced to a lesser tribe who had lost a shit ton of status and a lot of symbols of their power like the Ring of Barahir or Narsil. The Gondorian Stewards, especially those like Denethor, looked down on their northern brethren as pretenders and foreigners. Aragorn not only had served in Gondor's army for a time but was chosen to carry on many of the ancient symbols of the line of Elendil like Barahir and reforging Narsil into Andúril. Throw in a fancy banner made by his elf GF and he had the symbols and treasures of a king. Denethor lighting himself on fire also contributed along with Faramir willingly surrendering his authority to Aragorn helped. An heirloom of the Noldor/Teleri/Vanyar, (Galadriel & Finrod’s kin) But as I said, it's got SO much value. Makes me want to say something similar to what Gandalf said about the mithril vest that was more valuable than the shire itself. Hahaa And so ofc Aragorn for many reasons knows the history of that very ring he wears. I believe as it belonged to Galadriel’s brother, either she gave it to him or it made it down the line directly from Aragorn’s mighty ancestry back into the hands of Galadriel to then give to Aragorn, it once belonged to her daughter, (Elrond’s Wife). (Meant to add this earlier):There was a rescue between a Barahir and Finrod and that’s what lead to this ring being given to Barahir. And now AGES later now is on Aragorn’s finger. ❤ quite the magical ring too as everything elves create have essence of themselves poured into them where the same thing cannot ever be made twice. - (there is a few shots during the 3 movies of it being worn but also that book has the drawing & history of that ring Saruman spoke of it.

Wormtongue is a modernised form of Old English wyrm-tunge ("snake-tongue"). Grima’s title in the language of the Rohirrim was wyrm-tunga, which is modernised as 'Wormtongue'. In fact Anglo-Saxon (used by Tolkien to represent the speech of Rohan) used wyrm for various types of creatures, from what we would today call 'worms' to snakes & even Dragons. The meaning intended by wyrm-tunga was actually 'snake' (suggesting deviousness and deceptiveness) rather than 'worm' in the modern sense, though actually either reading would suit Gríma's character.

Keep in mind gentlemen, that Frodo sees his future self in Smeagol/Gollum. What he could become. He must believe Gollum can be saved, needs him, so he shows him mercy. Because if Gollum cannot be saved it would mean that Frodo too would be doomed to become like him. Also we now see my favourite character. King Theoden. A man who feels insecure, like he is not worthy of his position, but tries to do right for his people. He has to face the greatest of challenges and has fought many battles, but now again must climb back in the saddle in his old age to face Evil and to save his people. You will understand why he is my favourite character when you've watched the movies.

Something very important to understand about the humans that fought for Sauron, most were not evil. The men you see with the Oliphants were Haradrim, basically North Africans/Arabs. They had fought wars for territory with Gondor for two thousand years, their leaders had been corrupted by Sauron but the average soldiers and people were good people in the books, loyal, proud, no different than other peoples of middle earth but their kings have been corrupted and the people were forced into wars and to go serve Sauron. The Easterlings (Russian steppe peoples and Mongolians) were on the other hand actually driven by evil desires. Basically it reflected how Tolkien viewed the ancestors of the European, African, Middle eastern, and others. The Haradrim and far Haradrim (North Africans. Arabs, and sub-Saharan Africans) were good peoples led by corrupted leaders, honorable warriors, fearless, and loyal. The Easterlings (Basically the Mongolians, Sarmatians Scythians, Turks) were driven by evil in their hearts to conquest and pillaging. The peoples of the far east (Asians) just wanted to be left alone in their ancient kingdoms.

Let me share about Elrond & his daughter Arwen (& Aragorn by extension) therefore we must look at Elrond’s Twin Brother Elros, they both were half-elven brothers who can choose to be mortal or immortal because of their parents; (Eärendil & Elwing), both “half elven” made a great sacrifice and went to Valinor to ask for help against Morgoth(who was making everything worse than a living hellscape for 100s of generations) which lead to the greatest events in the early first and second age. Instead of being punished, the valar listened to them, that led to a great hosts of Valar and Maiar And Vanyar Elves went to Middle Earth that laid waste to Beleriand. After the War Of Wrath, the valar rewarded them for their sacrifices. They can choose to be elf or men, including their children. They chose immortally, but never return to Middle Earth because they thought that their twin sons had died. But they didnt die. Elrond chose to be immortal while his twin brother Elros chose to be mortal. He founded the Kingdom of Numenor. He lived in Numenor Island and blessed with a long life that include his descendants Those men who fought for the war were rewarded a long life but not their families or children. Only the family of Elrond can choose to be immortal or mortal in which Arwen did. Aragorn is the direct descendant of Elros, thats why he has a long life. The average lifespan of a Numenorean at their height was 500 years maximum! Now remember too that half elves are a common thing and whenever they did come together it was always significant !❤❤❤ Remember this is the SHORT version, there are so many moving parts that will make you want to dive into the books or the audio books or even do reaction videos to the famous lore videos by the biggest lore channels out there! When you’re done the trilogy try doing reaction videos just like Moviejoob did now with the lore recently as well as OmarioRPG. I recommend videos by GirlNextGondor and The Red Book, and Tolkien Untangled and especially Men Of The West. Many other cool ones I’ll recommend in the comments section of those reaction videos you do from Tolkiens Legendarium lore videos. They are super engaging. You’ll be in love. Nothing would have existed if Tolkiens works never hit the light of day as they were meant to stay private and sometimes be shared with his children and so on. No Game Of Thrones. No Skyrim. No ElderScrolls, No World Of Warcraft, no Dungeons&Dragons. None of it. Not even Star Wars. Not even Harry Potter! They took inspiration from his works which were souly to give back a forgotten history of the Anglo Saxons that had their culture & history destroyed as the larger empires were riding around them. His works reflect the Elder Edda(Norse) The Kalevala(Finnish) and the Welsh people from Wales as well as Irelands cultures of the Tuatha De Danaan as well! His languages are fully fleshed out too resembling Finnish & Welsh • By the way Elrond is around 6870-8000 years old & nearly a full Elf year (as they age very very differently to Men) is close to 144 man years(solar years for them). but if you want a more true age you must realize that he may be 8000 but in human years after the sun and moon were created from the flower from of the two trees of Valinor as well as one fruit from the other of the two trees; they experience the TIME and the way men experience it but their clock is different! They live as long as the world/Arda/Ëa does. Essentially. Which is why they are so in synch with the world around them and the nature responds to them ! Think of when Legolas walked ontop of all that snow on the Mountain of Caradhras!! They continue to endure as long ad the world itself does. (Arda) and speaking of age, Legolas is also 3000+years old by the time he becomes a member of The Fellowship Of The Ring! If you look back on the original trilogy movies: The fellowship had a 3000year old Elven PRINCE in their party. And a clandestine angelic being who was Gandalf originally known Olòrin to those such as Galadriel who knew him when she lived in Valinor, Elrond also knew would be one of the only others who’d know this save Círdan The Shipwright(Oldest Elf in the world but even he was a few generations down from the original elvish peoples to awake to the stars) & kin to Thingol who also is a semi distant cousin to Legolas as Legolas’ grandfather was the close cousin to Thingol(same with Galadriel’s Husband Celeborn through his father, their capital within Lothlòrien was named after his father(Caras Galadhon) Galadhon being the name indicating that which belongs to the father. And a 87 year old Númenorean man named Aragorn!, a 335 year old Dwarven Prince named Gimli. And as a microcosm they resembled the coalition of all the races of middle earth uniting under one banner which is another reason it sort of metaphysically set into motion the world uniting at the macrocosm ! Galadriel's Phial (gift to Frodo) is something really special. light & dark have a spiritual dimension in Tolkien. way back before the First Age Valinor was lit by two very special Trees that waxed & waned in opposition to each other. a master craftsman Elf named Fëanor fashioned three gems that captured their light, the Silmarils. (And it’s same power and light was drawn into it from the very firmament where it now stands amongst the stars as Eärendil himself (Elrond’s father stands watch over The Doors Of Night where Melkor still is held until fate holds him no longer.) Everyone who saw them was captivated by them, even the Melkor(Morgoth); the first Dark Lord. Wars were fought over them called the Kinstrife after Morgoth had the Trees destroyed the Silmarils were the only light from them left and he stole them as you may remember, they changed hands a few times & eventually one was left after one fell into the sea & another was lost in a pit of magma. a Half Elf named Eärendil (the first one! Who was Elrond’s father.) came into its possession & sailed it to Valinor as a gift to the Valar to ask for their help in defeating Morgoth, which they did. the Valar turned it into a star & hung it in the sky with Eärendil as its guardian. the fountain of Galadriel's Mirror is lit by light captured from the star Eärendil & her Phial has water from the fount. I've left out about 90% of the story but it's quite important & central to the story of Middle Earth. for her to give the Phial to Frodo is quite extraordinary. its light does burn & blind Shelob (that's the spider's name) but doesn't kill her outright. oh also, before he was put in the sky to guard the last Silmaril Earendil had two children, Elrond & his brother Elros the first King of Numenor. Tolkien's lore is deep & vast & the Silmarils are at the center of it. The Star of Eärendil is the light that shines in the horizon both in the morning and the evening. It consists in a boat raised by the Valar and led by Eärendil, who carries a shining Silmaril while watching the Doors of Night. The Door of Night was a portal in the distant Uttermost West that leads to heaven, and/or the Void. Eärendil's ship Vingilot was taken by the Valar from the rim of the world, passed through the Door and was lifted into the "oceans of heaven". PS: Eärendil is ELROND’s half Vanyar Elf half human father, that father was the son of the great Tuor of the great stories of The Children Of Húrin book!❤❤❤❤ Aragorn is a CLOSE descendant of a direct bloodline to Elros(Elrond’s Twin Brother) The title of half elven (Peredhel) was due to the combined history of Beren&Lúthien, his mother Elwing was the granddaughter of Lùthien! Eärendil was the husband of Elwing. The true half elf; son of the best elvish women ever who rescued hundreds from the highest of elvish kingdoms(Gondolin); her name is Idril & one of the best most powerful men around named Tuor. Who later on when they went to Valinor together through their own way lead to him choosing to be counted as One Of The Eldar for Idril. Eärendil did the same for Elwing. ❤

The sword Gandalf wielded caused the Balrog’s primordial sword to burst into a rain of molten lava in an almost majestic way. It too belong to high elven king Turgon of the great hidden realm of Gondolin, surrounded by tallest mountains. Named Glamdring; meaning “Foe Hammer”. Gandalf broke the balrog’s unholy weapon. Epic right? His original staff broke when he let some of his true powers show to grant a miracle from his own life force. This is the same thing for how the elves do “magic” Galadriel herself tells Frodo and Sam that things elves do may seem like magic but they don’t really use such a word since they are one with the world, symbiotic with it if the world perished so would they. Just so you know; the balrog and Gandalf fought for 10 days straight. Then eldrich terrors(nameless things) assailed them both and they begrudgingly fought them off together and Gandalf resumed his chase of the balrog up the endless stairs of Dúrin’s Tower where they fought up at the top of ZirakZigil! Gandalf was given the ring of fire (Narya) by one of the oldest remaining elves from the first clans to wake beneath the stars before the sun and moon ever existed; at the Cuiviènen river named Círdan. Its best attribute was it raises the spirits of those who wear it. Bolstering internal strength and so forth. He knew it would aid Gandalf in his quest from the Valar and Eru Îlluvatar (the one AllFather) themselves to bolster the spirits of the free peoples of middle earth and to sow seeds of hope within the hearts of Men, Elves and Dwarves alike.

31:30 OK, so the cloaks, the Hobbits' daggers, the bread, Sam's rope, were all made by the Elves; and everything they make has at least a little bit of their magic in it. That's why Sam's rope came untied when they needed it to and why it was so painful for Gollum to touch, why Gollum couldn't eat the bread, and why the cloaks hid them from their enemies. Frodo's sword Sting was also made by Elven smiths of lost Gondolin in the Elder Days, when their magic was even stronger. So bitter was the hatred of those smiths toward the Orcs that Sting glows whenever it comes near them. And Gollum is terrified of it.

If it helps a little to understand what’s going on, when Gollum and other characters talks about Sauron wanting to cover the world in a darkness or shadow it’s not literal darkness like what’s happening in Mordor with the volcano. It’s more spiritual in the sense of corrupting the hearts and minds of mankind to serve him. Sauron by his nature is a being of order and industry and was corrupted by originally Pride. He ultimately seeks control, control of everything and everyone.

Aragorn spared Grima for pragmatic, political & moral reasons. Morally: Killing someone is bad. Even when perceived as justified Tolkien didn't feel that taking a life was ever the honourable thing to do. Pragmatically: Grima might have knowledge about Saruman's plans. Maybe even some of Sauron's plans. Information that they could have extracted from him if he'd accepted the king's 'mercy'. Politically: You've not seen your king in months. Rumour has it he's gone mad and that Grima is the one running the kingdom now. Next time you see your king he's flinging Grima down the stairs unarmed, about to swing a sword through his head. Grima was even begging for mercy. That's not a good look for Theoden's first act as the King again after being silent for so long. (Tolkien stated there is no wholly evil, only supreme goodness but thinking in terms of only black and white tend to always lean eventually towards some form of evil)). His words on it were beyond perfect. I was paraphrasing based on my current memory.)

Éowyn’s FULL SONG in Rohirric Eotheod language + English translation below/ at Thèodred’s “funeral”•’Now dear Théodred lies in darkness, most loyal of fighters. The sound of the harp shall not wake the warrior; nor shall the man hold a golden wine-cup, nor good hawk swing through the hall, nor the swift horse stamp in the courtyard. An evil death has set forth the noble warrior A song shall sing the sorrowing minstrels of Meduseld That noble cousin, who always held me dear Now is held in darkness, enclosed.’ (Now in in the language of the Èitheod)❤ Nú on théostrum licgeth Théodred se léofa hæ´letha holdost. ne sceal hearpan sweg wigend weccean; ne winfæ´t gylden guma sceal healdan, ne god hafoc geond sæ´l swingan, ne se swifta mearh burhstede beatan. She sings this part in the movie: Bealocwealm hafað fréone frecan forth onsended giedd sculon singan gléomenn sorgiende on Meduselde thæt he ma no wære his dryhtne dyrest and maga deorost. Éowyn is only heard singing the last four lines of the song, ending with the word Bealo, which in Old English meant "evil" or "harm". The first of those lines ("Bealocwealm hafað...") originates from the epic poem Beowulf, line 2265.) Dirge sung by Éowyn of Rohan about her uncles son who passed away. Hargander instruments play whilst her voice remains clear and true and resolute but full of longing and mourning, a flute plays in the mix as well but it’s normally chipper melody turns sorrowful as to show how Théodred was bright when he was alive, but now he passes away into the heavens Éowyn’s Lament Of Théodred

the two wizards in this story, Gandalf and Saruman, are basically divine beings. They were sent from an undying land to fight Sauron on Middle Earth. Saruman is the head of their council but lost his way and grew jealous and fearful. In the books, he starts calling himself "Saruman of Many Colors" and he gets basically "removed" of his position. In his place, when Gandalf is reborn, he is promoted to the head position of White Wizard because Saruman failed his duty. That's why he says that he's "Saruman as Saruman should have been". There are also two blue wizards who we don't know much about and a brown wizard who is featured in another Tolkien story.

"One should only kneel before God" But remember; while the God of this world, Eru Illuvatar is the highest, he sent forth angelic beings called "Valar" and who then themselves sent forth lower holy beings like the "Maiar" (Gandalf, Saruman and Sauron before his corruption being some examples.) yet see that people did not worship Gandalf but acknowledge some sort of respect for him because they see him as an emissary of God- the kneeling, then, is a practice showing respect and love to one with power, but not so much as worship; indeed, Sauron is powerful, but the good does not kneel to evil. A side note- Gandalf was offered the Ring, but refused it, because such an offer was an evil temptation to a holy person; all of Gandalf's powers came from God, Eru Iluvatar, and his angels, the Valar. To accept the Ring is to deny the power of Eru Iluvatar, which is what Saruman did by allying with Sauron.

C.S Lewis did not introduce Tolkien to Catholicism, Tolkien was born into a Catholic family. The series isn't a Christian Allegory, that comes from a Letter Tolkien wrote during a time when socially you had to be a Catholic. Literary analysis finds little beyond the common motifs and stocks for a mythical adventure story from his time.

Wrong about CS Lewis and Tolkien. Tolkien was a devout Catholic since he was a child. It was Lewis who was an atheist and converted to Christianity because of Tolkien. While Tolkien said he disliked allegory, he certainly allowed Christian sensibilities and morality to influence his storytelling.

10:25 "They are made, not born." Yes.. and no.. all at the same time. Tolkien changed his mind no less than three times in how orcs... breed.. or reincarnate or with dark magic born from the earth. It is difficult to answer that question as Tolkien himself wasn't sure as stated in his letters. :) But yes 'made not born' is a statement I would support. Just not in DND the tale top game. orcs there clearly reproduce the old fashioned way :)

More like the enhanced version of something that’s already beyond an Angel so as to withstand anything that happened to the world after Morgoth poisoned the world so badly that magic itself was draining and bleeding away from the world, being a physical beacon of power and might of the elder days undimmed. Which is why very few left could defeat a balrog in the third age unless one be brave enough that fate and Eru smiled upon them as it’d fit into the song of the ainur that created the world of which still echoes and plays itself out into the world until Dagor Dagorath. Heck, even Gothmog was the son of Morgoth/Melkor and Ulbandi the troll queen. But Ecthelion defeated Gothmog! - Ecthelion was a lord of Gondolin, and the warden of the city’s gate.

They should of known he'd go straight to Saruman and snitch on them. Being a political advisor for so long prior to being corrupted, Wormtongue would be able to predict Theoden's moves and thus knew they would go to Helm's Deep. If they had killed him like they should have, they would of had more time to prepare for battle.

@@TimberlakeTigerGirl Gríma actually played a major role in the story of The Lord of the Rings prior to his first appearance in The Two Towers.
