Hello everyone, today I’m reacting to 1941 animated short “Hollywood steps out” directed by Tex Avery, The cartoon features caricatures of over 40 Hollywood celebrities.
A bird's-eye view of Los Angeles is shown with searchlights moving to a conga beat. The action takes place in the famed Ciro's nightclub, where the Hollywood stars are having dinner and feeling the rhythm’s of South America hosted by bing Crosby.

Full list of participants (in order) : Claudette Colbert Don Ameche Adolphe Menjou Norma Shearer Cary Grant Greta Garbo (cigarette girl) Edward G Robinson Ann Sheridan (oomph girl) Henry Binder and Leon Schlesinger (looney tunes producers) Open tables for Bette Davis and guest, Kate Smith (God Bless America), and Blondie, Dagwood, Baby Dumpling, and Daisy Paulette Goddard (hat check girl) Johnny Weissmuller feather dancer Sally Rand (not pictured) James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, and George Raft (pitching pennies) Harpo Marx (giving Greta Garbo a hotfoot) Clark Gable Bing Crosby Leopold Stokowski Sally Rand (balloon dancer) Peter Lorre Dorothy Lamour and Jimmy Stewart Tyrone Power and Sonja Henie Frankenstein's monster The Three Stooges Oliver Hardy (dancing with twins) Cesar Romero and Rita Hayworth (satire: both were excellent dancers in real life.) Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, and Lewis Stone (Andy Hardy series) Kay Kayser William Powell, Spencer Tracy, Ronald Coleman, Errol Flynn, Wallace Beery, and C Aubrey Smith together at the table. Henry Fonda J Edgar Hoover (gee man) (the original G-Man) Ned Sparks addresses table of grumps: Boris Karloff, Arthur Treacher, Buster Keaton, and Mischa Auer Jerry Colonna and his imaginary friend Yehudi Harpo Marx again busting Sally Rand's bubble and Clark Gable with Groucho Marx in drag.
Here’s a few of the celebs: The first guy was Carey Grant, and he referenced two of his movies, ‘My Favorite Wife’ and ‘The Awful Truth’. Johnny Weissmuller was an Olympic swimmer and the original actor for Tarzan. Anne ‘Ms. Rand’ was a famous fan dancer, giving her trademark fans to the coat check girl while leaving herself little else to wear. The stammering guy was Jimmy Stewart, and one of his most famous films was ‘Mr. Smith Goes to Washington’. Mickey Rooney was trying to lend money from his ‘dad’ to pay for his $50 meal, but when neither could pay, they had to work off their debt by washing dishes in the kitchen. I don’t remember the name of the ‘terrible’ dancers, but in real life, they were the greatest dancers of their age, hence the ‘bad dancing’ joke. The ‘G’ man was J. Edgar Hoover, head of the FBI, and his nickname was ‘The G Man’. The guy with the big eyes, mustache and binoculars was Jerry Colonna, a famous comedian who was famous for, among other things referencing a song called ‘Who’s Yehoodi?’ about an unknown man, who in this case is the invisible man sitting next to him. And Bing Crosby always bet on horse races, but he never won. So the horse and hockey are trying to coax him back to the track. That’s all I know

The ones I know... The "woman" at the end is Groucho Marx. "Carrot Top's grandfather" is Harpo Marx. "Gee" man was J. Edgar Hoover. The woman with the huge feet is Greta "I Van' To Be Alone" Garbo. Bing Crosby was known back then for the horse races. Running gag in some WB cartoons: Bing's horse *still* hasn't come in yet! Jimmy Stewart was the stammering guy afraid to dance, and he was famous for, among other movies, "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington".
"I haven't seen such a beautiful bubble since i was a child" Says Peter Lorr
3:21 "Pitching pennies." A child's game that could get grown-ups fired for gambling back in the day. Detailed on Wikipedia. 6:55 Peter Lorre! Star of Fritz Lang's _M, The Man Who Knew Too Much, The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca,_ Disney's _20,000 Leagues Under the Sea_ and _Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,_ Lorre inspired several minor characters in Warner Brothers cartoons, including a fish that shoots itself in the head (!!).
"FIFTY DOLLARS!" Still relevant today 😂
I think the guy talking about having not seen such a beautiful bubble since he was a child was... Peter Lorre, I think? Played Igor in the Frankenstein movies, I believe.

Not sure about Igor but you got the actor right non the less
I agree that this would be fun to do again today. Can you see Tom Cruise, Lady Gaga, Snoop Dogg, and other larger than life characters being caricatured as if at the Oscars today? That would be hilarious! This also shows that fame is fleeting. So many of those stars were once household names, but few are today.
Here’s a list of celebrities and their caricatures in this cartoon you should know: Cary Grant Greta Garbo Clark Gable Groucho & Harpo Marx Sally Rand Bing Crosby Edward G. Robinson Ann Sheridan Henry Binder Leon Schlesinger Johnny Weissmuller Claudette Colbert Don Ameche Adolphe Menjou Norma Shearer Paulette Goddard James Cagney Humphrey Bogart George Raft Leopold Stokowski Jimmy Stewart Dorothy Lamour Tyrone Power Sonja Henie Boris Karloff (as Frankenstein’s monster) The Three Stooges Oliver Hardy Rita Hayworth Cesar Romero Mickey Rooney Judy Garland Lewis Stone Kay Kyser Spencer Tracy Ronald Colman Errol Flynn William Powell Wallace Beery C. Audrey Smith Peter Lorre Henry Fonda J. Edgar Hoover Boris Karloff (as an actual caricature of himself) Buster Keaton Arthur Treacher Mischa Auer Ned Sparks And Jerry Colonna
Henry Fonda's bit was referring to a radio show, at the beginning of which the mother calls "Henry! Henry Aldrich!" The voice actor replies, " Coming, Mother!"
The Big Guy with the two ladies was Oliver Hardy who was part of The Laurel and Hardy Comedy duo.
The bubble joke is the darkest joke I ever seen in a Looney Tunes cartoon. Peter Lorre played the role of children assassin in 1931. M.
“Mr Smith goes to Washington” is a movie Jimmy Stewart starred in
Man Hollywood was so classy back then and the stars today are good but not legendary as they were.

I gave you the list of celebrities and their caricatures from this cartoon about 10 months ago.
Miss Sally Rand and her famous bubble dance.
The scene with Greta Garbo's feet getting burned and she just going "Ouch" is my favorite.
That guy who was invisible was Claude Rain, who plays the Invisible Man in 1933
Kay Kyser: Students!
A few other cartoons like this one at the time "Malibu Beach Party' is one with Jack Benny hosting eventually driving off guests with bad violin solo(pretty funny, lot like this cartoon) circa.1940- - -
Man classic and underseen episode...so many stars of old
The guy who dances with the girl and both can't dance is Ceasar Romero aka Joker from batman 1966
I wouldn’t mind another toon like this with more modern celebs.
The guy with the big eyes is peter galore

5:36 Oliver Hardy of Laurel & Hardy
Jerry Colonna: Guess who?
3:21 "You see, mugs? Bowtie, bowtie."
Bing was Ol' Blue Eyes.
7:00 Peter Lorre
Actually, $50 back then would be close to $1000 today if you adjust for inflation.
Harpo giving Greta Garbo the hotfoot was always the best part. Cartoon Harpo is still Harpo. Cute cartoon manchild.
The guy dancing with two girls is Oliver hardy of laurel and hardy
I always liked the original looney tunes growing up but by the 80s and 90s the cultural references were dated and I just didn’t always understand them. Even for my parents this would been dated and my grandmother would have only been 2 the year this was released.
"Now don't go away, Ikina. This oughta be good!"
The guy dancing with the 2 girls is Costello from abbot and costello

What is this trivia? Her reactions are facile. Did she recognise James Cagney?...I don’t think so.
Bing Crosby owned a race horse that never won.
