Since I can’t tell anyone this I’ll leave it here: I’m not really out, it’s complicated. But I went to pride last weekend, alone. I was terrified. The whole way walking there my legs were trying to run away. And when I got there I pretended that I had nothing to do with it, stayed for 5min then walked away. Came back watched the parade for 5min while pretending to be on the phone with someone, walked away. Then I came back and joined the crowd. After a while I was enjoying it and even smiling. So yeah I’m proud of myself. Baby steps :)

I swear, Alayna talking about her teenage years is beat for beat my story. We were showing each other how to climax so we were better at telling men what we liked??? Fully also had a girlfriend that I thought was just my bestie. Got SUPER jealous when she made out with a boy and a school dance we planned together and ran out of the dance crying about it. People called me lesbian a lot and I was LEGIT confused AF by the suggestion bc it seemed so normal. In college I eventually started offering climax lessons in the bathrooms of frat parties. STILL DIDN"T KNOW! It took me until age 32 to question all of this.

I relate to Alayna's experience kissing girls growing up so much. I "practiced" kissing with my best girl friend as early as 3rd or 4th grade. She said that's just what girls do. In middle school my friends and I would play spin the bottle at all girls sleepovers, or play truth or dare and dare each other to kiss each other. By high school I was saying, unironically, "I've kissed enough girls to know I'm straight." 😅 Definitely not straight, but to be fair, I never felt anything when kissing my friends because it felt more like a game than like two people who could be attracted to each other.

Coming out was difficult tbh because everyone around me was like “FRIENDS WHO ARE GIRLS CAN HOLD HANDS! They can kiss! They can sleep in the same bed naked! They can have practice sex with eachother! It’s all platonic!” And as a little baby gay I could not for the life of me deal with that. I would never sit on people’s laps or hold their hands or anything 😅 because to me these things were romantic not platonic and I still to this day find it weird when people try to platonic-ize romantic things? I’m demisexual and a lesbian (I did identify as bi for a VERY long time due to comphet and fear that I’d end up alone) but for me it just felt wrong and weird. If we turned it into “girl and guy friends can hold hands, kiss, sleep in the same bed naked and have practice sex platonically” people would slap romantic on that straight away without a blink of an eye (not talking about friends with benefits or QPR) - so it’s weird that they don’t even consider the fact y’know. Girls can be gay 🥲 that girls belong to LGBTQ+ too. School is so damn rough for the queers. I’ve been out of it for 10 years now and just… feels weird man. I still can’t comprehend how people can make romantic things into platonic. I think it’s part of why it’s so hard to find queer females too, when the straight women are all tongue in mouth and touchy but “hey it’s platonic girls can do this without being romantic!”

I was in a poly relationship some years ago and I'm still open to it, but my situation is different now and it's a lot of work, just as you say. And about the emotional part: one partner have the ability to give you something and another something else, just like you are able to give them different things. It's like "next level" friendship, why don't you have just one friend?

Sooo, about not realizing that your are gay/bi. I kinda have a similar experience to Alayna, as in I was head over heels for my best friend, but it never clicked in my head until years later I fell in love with a guy and at a certain point my brain went "wait, I have already felt this..." and that was that. A few years later my whole bisexual awakening happened. We didn't kiss though, and it would have been considered gay if we had. I did have pictures of guys and girls on my bedroom. Most of them I could get away with, like the whole cast of a popular soup opera for teenagers, a pop group with mixed people, and a duet. I did have a folder I had decorated with pictures that I remember feeling more interested in the girl of a couple than the guy. But only one or two times in all my teen years I had the fleeting thought of "maybe I'm bisexual" and I quickly discarded it. Heteronormativity is a b**ch.

I've heard from a polyamorous family that it can actually make it freer to have more adults in the household and as points of connection for the kids to be more independent and follow your dreams. But of course you have to be the type for it. And also of course it doesn't mean you are less committed to your partners, kids, or family because of it.

you can be non mono and have just one person with the exact model of relationship ashley has. it's just about studying ourselfs, the partner, our reactions, our individuality etc. its about setting and studying terms. having more than one person it's the least of concerns.

I watch Podcasts whilst cooking and hanging with my cats. Cancelled Netflix. I like watching people I like. Y'all, Pants, WHGS, The Handsome Pod, Bein' Ian with Jordan and RIP Jordan are my TV now. The adventures are the best! The recent Bouldering ep is 10/10

I guess I am still not broken because I can’t listen to podcasts. Body language is important for my brain to immerse itself in a conversation so visual podcasts are my fave. I don’t have many, but those that I love, I love.

Apple stopped supporting my iPod a couple of years ago, so can't listen to podcasts while driving anymore. I watch podcasts on KZread, toggling back and forth between watching (because the facial expressions and physical reactions are fun) and having it in the background. Plus, all three of these ladies are nice to look at. :)

@@PawsitivelyQuestionable that’s a really weird take on economic incentive. So you think it’s better if the only people supporting them are the companies you hate? We can make those advertisers irrelevant by supporting the creators for making the content we enjoy. Take an active role in making capitalist advertisers irrelevant. Don’t rely on other people to be the community for you.

Honestly I prefer listening to podcasts whenever I can. Obviously if I can’t because I’m driving or something then it’s no big deal, but I just really like getting to see facial expressions and reactions. Usually I watch the podcast when I’m eating or something like that, as if it’s any other youtube video

it's so interesting to see the dichotomy of Ashley and Alayna experiencing internalized homophobia as kids. I feel like I kind of have a bit of both. I think that having an awareness of the terms for gay/bisexuality at a young age from cultural exposure allows you to conceptualize the possibility of YOU being gay/bi. whereas if you don't have any exposure to those concepts and you don't have the language to understand or communicate your feelings, you can't conceptualize what 'gay' even means, much less how it relates to you and whether it applies to you. anyway love yall, great ep 💖

I watch several podcasts. It’s like informational people watching. Especially week after week, y’all underestimate how much you’re communicating nonverbally. I could write an essay on Ashley’s relationship to the mic or Alayna’s hand narratives. Tangentially: the WHGS background lands extra weird in the context of no Baby Spice this week. It’s like alternate timeline week at the Chosen Fam Pod💫🙃
