Sure, Jurassic Park was indeed a cinematic spectacle of the century and what brought people into the interest of prehistory. But the intro, egg travel scene, desert crossing and ending are what got my attention and interest into Prehistory, despite its plot flaws and scientific inaccuracies.

  • @thelittleal1212

I feel the movie is far too overhated. Personally, despite my nostalgic attachment, the story is pretty cliche most of the time, but it doesn’t mean it’s terrible. Outside the actual the story tho, it has some pretty great elements and a great level of effort. And it’s also impressively dark and graphic for a Disney movie for kids. Overall, i think it’s a over looked and underrated gem of Disney’s legacy

I think my only issues with it as an adult are the bland/annoying characters and cliche'd plot, as for soundtrack, atmosphere and animation, it's pretty damn impressive, I also thought the carnotaurs were genuinely frightening antagonists, I'd probably rate it a 6/10 but I still heavily love the movie, I don't think I could ever dislike Dinosaur, it gave me so many wonderful memories💕

I loved this movie so much as a kid and still do. One of my favorite memories of this film isn't actually in the film but something that happened in a game. Back when the Isle was new and still in its early release some 8ish years ago I was playing and a huge group of herbivores was gathering to make a cross-map trip to where this huge lake was. The guy leading the trip was a shantungosaurus who did the speech Bruton did about their first crossing. To this day one of my most fond memories of this movie and while gaming.

I think the scene with the carno mourning its mate is also great. It shows the carnivores may be scary meat eaters, but they still have emotions. This nuanced scene is such a breath of fresh air because carnivorous dinosaurs are usually portrayed as mindless murder machines in media.

I actually just watched this with my kids a few days ago ^^ Something I noticed with the Carnotaurus, that I wonder if you or anyone else did: One of them is quite a bit smaller than the other. I know sexual dimorphism is a thing, but the first long shot you see of the two in the desert shows that the other is ALOT smaller by far. Its also noticeable when they approach the cave before Bruton's death (The smaller chased Aladar inside). It actually got me to wonder if they're actually adult and juvenile rather than a mated pair. If so, it makes sense that the Juvie survived the cave collapse, and it also explains why it was so thrown by the response from the herd at its attack.

I think the reason they call them just Carnotaurs is because they don’t want to explicitly say the animal is carnotaurus. Since the real animal was a lot smaller it definitely wouldn’t be the same species as in the movie Like the same reason in Walking with Monsters or Primeval use gorgonopsid for a 5m carnivore instead of explicitly calling them Gorgonops or Inostrancevia since there is not a lot of evidence proving these animals can grow 5m in length. However I suppose they would have called Carnotaur, Abelisaur instead if they didn’t want to say the exact species name or I might be overthinking it.

They actually cut a really good scene from this film. Later on Neera is attacked by the raptor pack as shes trying to save the orphaned iguanodon before shes saved by Kron. Interesting to see that Neera had already decided to go against her brother by not leaving the babies behind but also added an interesting arc to Kron that, even he, was willing to make exceptions to his rule to save his family. Just added a nice extra dimension to him that is a shame got cut. You can actually find the rough animated draft on KZread that was fully voice acted Also the carnotaur was retconned by a Disney theme park i believe? To be a fictional subspecies called Carnotaurus Floridiensis. Hence why its portrayed as so huge and different

Thank you for reviewing this Red Raptor, this is my all time favorite Disney movie for a couple reasons. 1.) I love excellent the quality holds up since 2000. 2.) I really enjoy the cast as far as voices and dinosaurs chosen and the story. 3.) Carnotaurus was an awesome choice for the film instead of T-Rex. And lastly, I love how detailed and as realistic as they could get to make the dinosaurs look even if they are humanized, but thankfully not so much as the live action Disney animals we get now a days. I'll definitely have to rewatch this again at some point, well worth it if you haven't seen this before. Shame Disney has moved on from this film, it's way better than it's given credit for and I do appreciate the 100th anniversary of Disney included Aladar in the special. Also my main reason Animal Kingdom is better than the other parks for me, the dinosaur part including Aladar and parts of his story in the park. Sorry for going on, I really love this film. Great review and can't wait to see what's next Red Raptor. Hoping Prehistoric America will get reviews by you at some point good sir. Keep up your awesome content, stay safe and have a great day.

I spent a lot of times on them, and there was only 3 (or 4), a puzzle, a knowledge test and the best of all, the cave. You were in the cave of the end of the movie and had to find your friends, the exit and open it without meeting the carnotaurus. It was very rng based but the sheer tension when hoping to not find a carnotaurus at the next room or not make the whole exit fall on you was unmatched for me. God I miss the simpler times.

What can I say, this movie was my childhood and definitely how I and many others became interested in prehistoric content for the first time. As for the movie itself, it's good. Visuals were top tier for its time and the soundtrack is simply perfect. The plot is simple, it's basic but it has grit and some really stand out moments. The carnotaur's portrayal was iconic. Singlehandedly putting the species in the limelight and in the minds of the audience, like JP did for T-Rex, Raptors and Spinosaurus. I definitely have to agree and praise the movie for the roster of species it decided to show off. Wish we would see another movie of it's kind nowadays, with our technologycal and paleontological improvements. With some similar dinosaur characters and similar serious plot with some really effective desperate situations.

My love for Dinosaurs, and Carnotaurus specifically as my favorite dinosaur, came from this movie. The Carnotaurus really looked like giant demons here, they always scared me, but they also gave me a fascination thay no other dinosaur ever gave me. Idk, the combo of short face, large head, spikes and horns really mixed with me. Learning that they weren't T-Rex sized monsters, but more like giant cheetas with horns, also made me love them even more because they had an identity beyond just "devil dinosaur monster." Also, the Meteor Scene is by far my second favorite in this movie and genuinely scared me as a kid. I think it was the first thing to give me fear of space XD

This film was nothing but a staple of my childhood. I'm not joking, I watched it non stop on VHS to the point that I remember the commercials and trailers that play before the film started all these years later and I know every cut, sound effect, visual and line of dialogue. I grew up being a dinosaur nut for as long as I could remember, and this was probably why, as I'm sure I saw this before seeing Jurassic Park and Walking with Dinosaurs. This did help make the Iguanodon my favourite dinosaur of all time. I won't hesitate and say it's one of my favourite films of all time, partly because of James Newton Howard's score, which is one of my top 5 of all time. It may not be entirely accurate, but this did help me fall in love with dinosaurs, which is more than enough for me.

I remember seeing this movie in theaters when it was initially released. Now there are a lot of people who say that this movie's plot is basically a ripoff of Don Bluth's The Land Before Time, and I'd be lying if I said I don't see where they're coming from. When you get right down to it, both movies are about a dinosaur protagonist who's home was affected by a natural disaster and he has to cross a baron wasteland to find a new home, all while dodging a deadly predator. With Land Before Time, we have Littlefoot and his friends Cera, Ducky, Petri, and Spike who were all separated from their families during an earthquake and they try to reach the Great Valley while avoiding the T-Rex, Sharptooth. With Dinosaur, we have Aladar and his lemur family who were forced off of their island home be an asteroid impact and must reach the nesting grounds with Kron and his herd while avoiding several predators like raptors and a pair of Carnotaurs. One more similarity is that both films were originally supposed to have no dialogue other than the narrator, something like the Rite of Spring segment from Fantasia, but longer. But that's about where the similarities end, unless you want to get nitpicky.

As a kid I thought this was a land before time prequel and that the nesting grounds they got to was an older great valley lol

The intro of this movie, pure paleo cinema! A dream of mine is to be able to see it in theaters someday! Same goes for TLW, JP3 and technically even paleo docs cuz I just loaf the theatrical experience and i bet Prehistoric Planet, Walking With Dinos and Dinosaur Planet would feel amazing on the big screen! But that's just me so I know I'm alone in that regard. Wont stop me from dreaming it or making my own original stories that I'd want to share with ppl through the theatrical experience!

Little known fun fact about these movies take on Carnotaurus At the underrated ride Countdown to Extinction there's a skeleton based on this version on display And the sign talking about rhe info on this creature labels it as a floridian subspecies called Robustus floridaensis Though how a south american dino came to have a north american, much less floridian, subspecies is beyond me Its weird but I like that they gave it that little detail Plus the roar of this creature has forever stuck in my mind To the point its in my top 5 dino roars

Love this and enjoy watching this too. This dinosaur movie that came out in 2000 is just great, I was always hoping for a second movie or even a sequel to this but never happened. I guess this movie is good by itself and the animation is just wonderful.

You should look up the original pitch for this movie before Disney bought it, the ending was much darker. Part of where the dinosaur species came from was Disney requiring that they used the Dinosaurs from their park ride. That is how we wound up with a TRex sized Carnotaurus, because the script originally had a TRex and they wanted to keep the imposing nature.

It makes sense for Carnotaurus to be called something different that the modern name we humans give them, but I find it strange that the name the characters give them is so similar. They could have said "predators", or a brand new name like when LBT invented "sharptooth". To be honest, I'm a spanish speaker, so the version I first watched in theaters was dubbed in spanish. In that dub, both the modern name for the animal and the name given by the other dinosaurs are one and the same ("carnotauros").

I’ve seen this movie the most compared to other Disney movies. I loved this money since I was a kid and I still love it just the same. Only a couple of things have changed my opinion on the movie both in positive and negative ways but mostly positive. Like as a kid I never appreciated how amazing the score, the cinematography, the practical work, and how good the CGI was for the time. The choice to use the carno over the T. rex was such a smart choice cause they made the carno really scary having it look demonic with lots of spikes with that red coloring. Lots of great tense/chase sequence like the meteor shower is a great example.

I don't know what the paper will argue, but they better have something good to make the name stick. Cause it's not a problem with the animal being fake. The animal that shed the tooth existed. It's more about naming conventions. So we'll see 🤷‍♂️

You should have a look at the Minecraft mod “prehistoric nature” it has over 800 prehistoric animals from the pre-cambrian all the way to the Jurassic at the moment the Jurassic is still being worked on so yea but they are going until the present day the creatures are as accurate as they can be within the restrictions of Minecraft and they will update animals and there models if new research comes out on them with noticeable differences
