Sony home speakers are lowcost and super high quality, they're very transparent sounding i.e. the poor man's Audiophile system. I actually still use a 90's sony 2.1 sub system on my Roland Phantom G8 workstation for practice when I don't want to power up the studio amps. I have many vintage speakers such as Infinity, JBL etc, but these really do top the list for sound quality and durability at a very affordable price.

I loved seeing this active Sony subwoofer inside, despite the years of use, is brand new, needing a cleaning. Best of all, it's very potent.🔊😎👍

Очень красивый динамик! 👍 Чём-то на JBL похож.Очень понравилось, что усилитель отделён от корпуса и корпус усилителя имеет отверстия для охлаждения.За это большой лайк! 👍 Но как минус, у динамика очень маленький магнит и корпус имеет малый объём, при этом в нём нет наполнителя...

Was that a fuse I saw inside? I have a Sony SA-WM250 and it powers on with a green light at the front switch, but connected to my receiver by RCA cable I get no sound. I wondered if maybe a sound board in it had a fuse as well as the power supply. Is there a volume on the 250 model?

Huge favor please!? If you still have this subwoofer could you measure the ohms resistance of the speaker? Mine blew and I’m trying to find a replacement!

We dont have it anymore. Just take 6 or 8ohm, it's safest way.

Can you look for a Harmon kardon (hk-395-01) for a tear down video? :)

Динамик на вид примерно 80 ватт RMS, то есть на музыке вполне себе можно давать под 200 ватт. Мне кажется НОЭМА 300ГДН будет помощнее. У меня их две было, давал до 450 ватт примерно - норм, даже катушка цвет не сменила. Усилители концертники силовики, моща там есть, так что про 450 ватт помжете поверить наслово. Там и 2500 ватт есть

So, I have one of these, this exact model, from a thrift store. I'm wondering if a DIY person could make improvements to it, by altering it in any way? I'm trying to enter the audio/home theater hobby, but I'm retired and on a shoe string budget. I understand that there are better subs available, but I already own this one. I'm just wondering if it can be improved with upgrades. I'm very new to the hobby, so I don't know what can be done. Somebody below described adding a Kicker driver. That would be simple enough, but is it worth it? Would a $100 driver be a significant improvement to quality? What about vibration dampening tape or filler? It looks pretty empty in there in this video. Is it supposed to be empty, or is it empty because of cost cutting measures? Again, sorry for the noob questions, but I gotta start somewhere. Also, what is the purpose of that short plastic port on the outside of the box? Would removing that alter the sound?

To maybe help answer your questions, yes there can be improvements made such as adding that kicker driver that you were talking about. But if you really want it to be improved by adding that kicker driver you will need to have more power going to it as well, because adding a more powerful driver without actually feeding it more power it will sound the same with little to no difference. So you will need a more powerful amplifier for that to work well but it is very possible. As for the port on the back you’ll find that in most home audio speakers, what the port does is it helps the speaker enclosure ventilate the air moving inside it while also helping the speaker sound better with bass.

Looks pretty similar to my SA-WX700 dual isobaric 10" subwoofer. That one is a beast! Goes down to 25hz! If you can find a rare SA-WX900 that is the best sony subwoofer built period! Dual 12" isobaric with 1000 watts!

It is not isobarik. It is push pull, with both drivers generating sound. Isobarik is when only one driver generates sound, and the other just acts as an infinitely big cabinet for the sound generating driver. There is a big difference between the two principles.

@@janhenriksen6568 I dont get it. What is it like one woofer spits the sound out of the air the other one just sucks it? I dont care if I ever get it I just want my bass! I just got my SA-WM500 and so excited to plug this thing in! Any idea if both RCAs are needed to be populated for it to work properly there is only one lead coming out of my yahama recever I am not using the speaker level rout as my amp has the dedicated sub out. Just need to confirm and what position the switches need to be set to

Id actually consider this piece hifi, crutchfield has a page on it if that is of any indication lol. I just got mines and super pumped to plug this thing in! This thing is heavy, and rock solid, looking forward to rounding out my yamaha 5.1 70watt per channel receiver, klh dual 5" center, klipsch kg2 fronts, setup with this!

I would have at least cleaned this up before making a video lol. I've had this sub and it does thump pretty good, especially after I loaded it with a 12" Kicker driver. :)

@@coolelectronics1759 The amplification card is not formidable either to the point that it is necessary to change the speaker (kicker driver, kicker is a special sub, I understood too late), especially since there is better boxes for 12 inches, the plastics on the back can create noise, especially at high power. Anyway, I'm not complaining (because I have a second 2.1 system with more roundness in the bass and punch, otherwise it has a wide band because it will have deeper bass, but I leave it at low speed, let's say it catches up with the shortcomings of the other and vice versa). The result is very convincing, since the time that I am dissatisfied, in all I have 3 systems, amplified speakers (3 pairs of which 2 colones) but fortunately the Pioneer home cinema with its passive subwoofer corrects what is lacking in the WM500, but together they work very well.

You could actually put a 12 inch car subwoofer in that if it's a dual 4 ohm voice coil car subwoofer because powered home theater subwoofer amplifiers are designed to handle 8 ohm subwoofers

Of course, but car subwoofers have very low sensitivity and almost they are very slow(mms very high), better check HiFi speaker manufacturer.

The main is sound performance, I always first listen speakers and then teardown. Not always good look build quality mean fantastic sound. This sony subwoofer sound more better than it looks.

@@Techscrews look at the size of that sub woofer. for a 12" sub woofer an ideal enclosure size should be (H24" x D24" x W 14") and 2 long flared 12" pipe hole consisting of radius 3" each is a must to vent out the air from that sub. This will allow the sub work efficiently. Sound should be extremely pleasant. The box size matters most for any sub. A well built twice as the size of the sub enclosure should be enough to produce great bass. This way even a cheap priced low quality sub will sound terrific without a doubt.

@@Techscrews Sony is great! without a doubt. i have a Sony MHC-Gzr 77d Mini hi fi system. sound bass is superb. bought it brand new 10 years back still running ok! but i would say there was every chance they could make my woofer boxes even better than they provided for the money.

@@apolloares6114 this is a typical brick and mortar store subwoofer built for the masses. I bet it was designed by sony only to go down to 35-40 hz with an f6 of 30hz. SvS or HSU is built for the enthusiasts with big enclosures and 20hz or lower performance.

@@Techscrews Сам динамик сконструирован правильно!У этого Sony очень линейный ход, подвесы мягкие, диффузор лёгкий, резонанс динамика скорее всего низкий. Шайба широкая, хорошо контролирует динамик. Этому динамику, поменять магнитную систему, и сделать нормальный корпус, с двумя пассивными радиаторами. Он сможет затмить многих из тех, кто стоит гораздо дороже. Если уделить внимание динамику, он и REL превзойдёт! 👍

I think my JBL 12inch subwoofer with my own made 350watts amplifier is better than this one...
