Note: In this video I converted the 1/2.8" sensor to 9mm because.. well 1/2.8" = 9mm. Turns out that isn't true and the sensor is 5.89mm, because back in the day digital camera makers realized it would be hard to market such small sensors. To overcome this they adopted a system used for Vidicon tubes that is approximately 1.5x larger than the actual size of the sensor. If you're a camera nerd here is a paper about how all of this works: dougkerr.net/RDP/RDP_S08_Sensor_Size_V01.pdf -Alex

Also a full frame sensor isn't 35mm across. It's just called 35mm because on a 135 film roll the film is 35mm film wide (due to the perforations). Full frame is actually 36mm x 24mm (about 43mm diagonally)

Wait, it says in the abstract: "We often find the size of sensors of “compact” digital cameras described with a notation such as 1/2.8” (which refers to a sensor size of about 0.19” × 0.14”)." 0.19 * 25,4 mm (1 inch) = 4,826 mm as width 0,14 * 25,4 mm (1 inch) = 3,556 mm as height sqrt(width^2+height^2) = 5,9946… as diagonal Where did you get 5,89mm from? 1/2.8 Inch sensor isn't equivalent to the metric system and is actually it's equivalences to old Vidicon tv camera tube (Which goes by 2/3 ratios) 1 inch type sensor is actually 16mm and not 25.4mm. And different Camera manufactures have different diagonals.
I've done a ton of research into deciding which webcam to get. I landed on the Nexigo N660P. It does a solid job, is 1080p 60fps. Lucked out and got it for $22 off Amazon renewed (because it's white, but a bit of paint fixes that.) A more budget contender is the Aukey webcam. It's like $27 on their site or Walmart. The only issue is the FOV is huge so you'll need to use OBS to zoom in a bit (which does lose a bit of image quality but it's fine.) I'm convinced that anything beyond that $55 model of webcam is a complete waste of money. It gives solid performance with a reasonable footprint and it always just works. If you want to go higher end then get a cheap DSLR and deal with setting that up. The $200 webcams are complete nonsense. One thing to note is that you need lighting. Every webcam will look garbage if you are using it in a dungeon. A monitor mounted light bar works great for this and is a very useful addition to any desk.
man this is gonna be great for apps that downscale all video to 720p or facecams that take a small corner of game streams
“A bit out of the budget for most people”, Understatement of 2021.
the Sony Starvis sensor is actually an outdated sensor technology cut to a different dimension, so although nice it is not _that_ impressive. But still it has the potential of giving a better and more consistent image than most webcams out there.

Remember to charge the phone. Streaming the camera feed empties the battery fast af. Cool the phone if necessary.
Me who is watching at 240p: They are all the same
Hardware design reminds me a lot of the original Apple iSight. But then again, both of them are metal cylinder with a lens at one end. You can't get much more minimalistic than that. In a way it's the logical end point of high-end webcam hardware design.
Interesting form factor, I'm sure we're going to see these quite often in hospital emergency rooms
This is the best picture quality you'll ever get without buying a DSLR camera and a capture card. Bravo, Dell, you've made something incredible.
Actually the 1080p looks like more a 720p, and that 4k like 1080p.
Great video, a strong webcam contender. Unfortunately a shame that the webcam wasn't on a stable surface, instead mounted on the laptop screen, making the video wobbly at times.
Kinda surprised the camera operators didn't ask you to try and turn down the contrast.
2002 Apple called they want their iSight design back.
If a girl has a 4k webcam in a zoom class I'd be a little sus ngl👀.

took me a second but i got it XD XD gotta make those 200$ worth it i guess... Edit: if your teacher has a 4k webcam, that is wayyyy more sus
Thumbnail had me fooled there for a second, thought the camera was huge af
Andy for the save!
That 4k was struggling. The sharpness was pretty good but the frame rate started lagging behind which was more distracting than the extra resolution was beneficial. I already have a DSLR/GoPro so I think I’ll finally pull the trigger on a Cam Link. I was holding out because a monitor-resting webcam could be more convenient as I would just leave it in place, but these just aren’t quite up to snuff.
Exposure priority and framerate priority probably matter the most on higher resolution - when the camera is in 4K mode I would still recommend an used dslr and hdmi capture card from ebay. Those cheap chinese ones are already quite great - not 4K but very crisp 1080p. Better pixels matter way more than the 4K resolution. That’s also the reason why television signal isn’t commonly 4K yet
Love the fact that you guys have “sets” you guys have come a long way from when I started watching back in 2014. Think I finally subbed back in late 2015
I love to see how this compares to the brio
40 seconds of 4K footage, Alex being Alex.. i guess it makes him feel wierd..
Nice upload
I love LTT videos 😍 ... Just a suggestion whenever you review a camera based gadget, please have a colored skin person too for checking the quality for every one. 😌
(First parts of the video) Me on my 4K monitor: Are you sure you're shooting with the webcam in 4K mode? (Andy checking Alex's settings) Me: LOL thanks Andy!
I connected my old smartphone during the lockdown and used it as a webcam.
Given the amount of light in the studio, I think the image quality is definitely not as sharp as the logitech brio which has been on the market for like 3 years for same/lower price. Brio is also more like a traditional webcam formfactor and less bulky
about time someone moved forward in the webcam market.
Let's be honest here, Alex looks sharper than the camera itself 👌
