LONGPLAY: Commander Keen Episode 3: Keen Must Die (1990) [MS-DOS]

Keen 3: Keen Must Die! is the third episode in the Invasion of the Vorticons trilogy. It sees Keen travelling to the home planet of the Vorticons to confront the Grand Intellect.
Commander Keen 3: Keen Must Die! chronicles Keen's final showdown with the Grand Intellect on Vorticon VI. Following the thwarting of the Vorticon plot to destroy the Earth in Keen 2, Keen realizes that he must discover the identity of the Grand Intellect and eliminate him.
In order to do that, Keen travels to Vorticon VI. However, Keen finds that, under the Grand Intellect, Vorticon VI is a hostile place. In response to Commander Keen's act of disabling the Vorticon Mothership, the Grand Intellect has issued one simple order to all of Vorticon VI: that Commander Keen must die. Landing far from the Castle of the Grand Intellect on the small island of Vortiville, Keen must set out across the planet in search of his nemesis. Through it, he encounters numerous Vorticon cities and settlements, many of which bear flags and mysterious portraits bearing the Grand Intellect's name, and all of which are filled with hostile aliens. Later, Keen penetrates the Vorticons' military bases, where the lethal VortiNinjas are trained.

loved playing this game as a 7 yr old :p
Did not realize you can stand at the edge of those little platforms up top of the mangling machine and safely shoot all 4 upper blue thingies. That would've made this level substantially easier to beat when I was like 8, knowing that.
Just been playing this one again! I don't know why, but back in the early 90s, this was my least fav Keen. Now, I love it.

Man I've just been playing these games again and I loved the first two, really great platforming and fun puzzles. What went wrong with this one? The level design is kind of weird in a lot of places and the difficulty is through the roof compared to the others. Great longplay though, did not even realise you could kill the Vorticon Moms. Nice to watch someone else play

The levels in this one were designed to look like houses and apartments, with a couple of military bases, because you were on their homeworld.

I like the more compact quarters in this episode and can already see a substantial increase in graphic detail relative to the first one. The details are simple and stylized but it well communicates the ideas of keen running through these creature's garishly decorated houses and then fortresses. And blasting them just to steal their cake slices. Even if most of the stages are optional, it feels, to me, more like a single mission than a collection of mini-missions. The main thing I don't like is it explaining Mortimer only just as he appears; the clue that it is someone from earth in episode 2 doesn't count for much and it never registered with me until I saw episode 2 again this week. Not really important, though.
The best commander keen! But the five episode too is good

i was like maybe 6 or 7 yrs old when playing this game .. and can't understand a thing at all. I can't even read english . And now i'm back here .

52:13 - can this level be beaten without jumping over it? Looking at its map, I don't see a way to the closed doors at the bottom-right corner. Is that just Romero's joke?

That ammo cache at 53:26 can't be reached either. I believe that the only way to beat this level is go over the cave.

That does seem rude! It looks like you can't even get TO the doors. They should at least let you open the doors, then get stopped by the spikes.

Unless you cheat, you can't beat it on the lower route because of a badly positioned stalagmite. You cannot avoid them.
I think Apogee recycled some of these assets and ideas making Secret Agent in 1992
