I must have played for like a hundred hours and never finished it. You did it in half an hour. Now, 28 years later, I finally see the end of Captain Comic. I didn't know this day would come, but now it has I feel completely indifferent about it.

One of the first games I played ... and the first one I actually finished, some day in 1993, 10 years old I was then, and seriously proud of having done this. As you cannot save a game, this was especially hard to achieve, as children back then only had limited access, ...

my first ever game i played... still never completed first level to this day LOL

Same here, until i used an emulator and saved states, but then didnt get much further than half way and gave up lol. Quite a hard game!

The purple dungeon level is pure magic. So good to revisit this again.

Today I found this game back after looking for it so long. Reddit helped me find it. I finished it back in the day together with my dad, he did the movement and i the shooting, this brings back so many memories.

Played this for hours as a kid with my mom and sister. Just reminisced over this video over how hard it was for is all to beat! Thanks for posting!!!

Same, couldn't get over the coloured box stacks with just jumping, must have tried one jump 200 times before my cousin figured out that caps lock was the teleport button. No internet help in those days!

Dude... you have no idea how long I’ve been searching for this Edit: being born in 1987, I played this game so so sooo stinkin long ago and there’s no way I could remember what it was. I remembered needing boots and some kind of birds were the enemy and there was a lantern. My folks HAD to have played and got me to these far levels because there’s no way I remember all this stuff and got there on my own. Thanks for the nostalgic stuff. Btw, I never did beat this, so again, thank you.

Aaa~ I played this game so much when I was 4 or 5 years old :D Never got that crown though, haha. Maybe I should try again.

It's my first game and i played it when i was 6 y.o. :-) Also i played second part of Captain Comic - Fractured Reality. It was more interesting. But only in 2003 i find out that i played a pirate version and full version of FR are more exciting.

Dangit, yeah, I lost 3 lives back then (more than twenty years ago I think?) because I did not understand how to use the magic wand. Then I got to the castle with one life, and beat the pixelated crap outta these monsters. Then I died, raged a bit, and never played it again. And now, thanks to the interwebz, I'm pretty sure that I died about 10 seconds before the crown. So dumb.

Thank you! I played this game on my Dad's PC as a kid. I totally forgot the name of the game, but had that intro music stuck in my head on and off for years.

I love the moon plants. That moon base has seen better days...

Good to see this game filmed. I played it through once to finish it, but not as easy or quick as this looks! Took hours! And whenever near dead I'd hide out at a screen edge and jump back and forth over the edge to build up lives before continuing. It was great to finally get to the end. Never played the second one though.

I remember his game. Played the game on the first IBM-compatible PC, a 386. As a kid, I thought after the gold sack, that pit was a game restart if you go in, not knowing the color walls indicating doors (I thought only torches did this). Thus, I never was able to get the teleportation wand. I also thought the five lives were gems. Looking at it now, they are Captain Comic's helmet on a magenta circle. Also, it did not dawn on me why the lantern is needed, couldn't the fireballs Captain Comic shoots provide light? Or why would a space adventurer even need an old time lantern. Why not a flash light?

I never beat this game as a kid because I didn't have the wand. Which at the time had no idea was a thing even. Now that I watch a walkthrough I realize my Extreme color blindness completely f'd me LOL

I used to play it when I was a kid, actually this game is older than me :D Still playable with DOSBox, available on abandonware sites. The default control keys are really weird, but they can be changed in the start screen.

I think you made hard work of that. I love the tapesties showing some of the bad guys near the end though. I found in the end I could get to the crown will full lives and shield. Anything I lost in the castle I was able to recover from the shields along the way. I usully left the shield in the forest and the lake to get on my way back when I probably needed it more.

Played this a million times as a kid, loved it so much.

On my 21st birthday you uploaded, this was one of my favorite games on the MS-DOS back in the 90's, thank you for the nostalgia.

Those graphics give me such crazy nostalgia. Played this many times on my dad's IBM compatible back in the day.

First ever Platformer I played as a kid on our Amstrad PC computer. I remember asking my older brother to jump the long gap on the moon. Always got stuck in the caves as I never knew about the hidden door.

I used to sit at the left end of the ship where the corkscrew was, and just waited for enemies to spawn until I got enough points to get max health and 5 extra lives. Same in the castle, but under the stairs.

I used to sit at the start of the moon level and constantly shoot the flying yellow things to recover any lost lives and points.

i loved this game as a kid, spent so many hours playing and it was the first game I finished. just tried it again and I failed miserably haha.

Maybe you already figured this out: The 2 planets mentioned in the beginning form the words Cosmo and IBM AT (as in the computer) backwards! Thanks for a great playthrough!

My dad used to play this in the 90s pretty much, and I remember trying myself to get through the game. Never did, if I remember correctly but still had much fun playing

lol i think the last time i played this game was about 25 years ago! i never thought i beat it but watching this video you reminded me i did beat it i remember playing another video game called Catacomb

I used to enjoy playing Captain Comic at work after all my staff had left to go home. I used to tell my partner that I had loads of things to do on the new computer. I seem to recall that the very first Wolfenstein and Doom came out using the same sort of graphics long before they went first person 3D (which made me physically sick)

One of the few games I played through tot the end. Great game.

I always played this two-player as a kid. It didn't have a two-player mode, so one of us would handle the moving and jumping and the other would do all the shooting. Totally beat it like that.

Wow... Last time I played this were back in 94-95!! Holy smokes! I remember that we used to have a PC in the back of our classroom. It had Street Rod and this. I remember this because of the background @ 4:50

Its odd, seeing level design that I haven't seen seen since I was five years old.

This was one of my favority games on the Compaq 386, sounded awesome with Roland Midi Soundcard.... Memoryrefresher & Coolinggel stickers!

Thought about this game today and decided to look up a video. Every time you got to a new area I thought "I remember this, I don't think I ever got past it..."-- turns out I had beaten it because I remember that end screen, having seen it again.

Also one of my first games! My father helped me with this game (he played this game for hours).....

I loved it and finished it as a kid. For me it was the best MS DOS platformer back in the day.

My first game ever! Finished it at the age of 12, learned how to get a huge score and beat everyone. Took me about 20 minutes, hahaha.

Protip: The wand teleports you exactly three spaces in front of you, if possible - and as close to being in front of you as possible. It's never random.

When i first played halo the first thing i thought of were the backgrounds from the 2 min mark in this vid! On halos 2nd stage! This plus next gen!

It's weird. I distinctly remember the pc graphics, but I also distinctly remember the game having Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca, which I think is only in the NES version. It's baffling.

Wow! If pc only had gamepad support back then. Never knew there was this much depth to the game. No manual either for item knowledge. Only got the marbles, never made it past space.

Das Spiel habe ich als Kind sooo geliebt. Aber das mit dem Zauberstab habe ich nie hinbekommen.

I played it so many times and beat in around 20 min. It was hard watching get hit over and over.

Pff I remember playing this when 7 years old. It was hard to finish back then. There wasn't any save points. Out of lives. Start from beginning. After this blues brothers and commander keens where easy. 💪

I remember the cheat that if you held the space bar when it loaded you could fly if you kept it held down.
