LONGEVITY | Wrestlings Longest Careers!

LONGEVITY | Wrestlings Longest Careers!
Often in wrestling, the run of a great star is relatively short in length. Of course, there can be a lot of reasons for this, such as in the case of Magnum TA and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin when injuries cut their time in the ring short, or in the case of Batista or The Rock, each of whom left the squared circle in order to move on to Hollywood. But what about the flipside to this? What about the performers who had the longest careers in wrestling history? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

The most fascinating thing about Sting is, that he is fucking 65 years old by now! He did not only have a career span of nearly 40 years, some forget, that he started wrestling very late, aged 26. When WCW collapsed, he was already 42, and look what matches he had... He often doesn't get the credit he deserves, because he never had a big career in WWF.

I think he has two of the longest runs. One lasted 7 years I think, and the other 3. Tells you how big Bruno was. New York wasn't willing to accept anyone else as champion really until Backlund. Koloff and Superstar were only transitional champs obviously, as most heel champs were back then. Pedro Morales had a longer run of around 3 years, but apparently even a Puerto Riccan champ can't draw as big in New York as an Italian.

By participating and winning her handicap match against LayCool in 2010 at the age of 80, Mae Young became the first and so far the only person in history that has wrestled in and won an official match beyond the age of 80. Those two records will be almost impossible to break ever, unless Ric Flair decides to do it, but knowing his long time personal friendship with May he most probably will not do it out of respect for her.

Undertaker always gets the credit for longevity, but Kane wrestled way more consistently for just as long. No mention of Kane is wild considering he wrestled the most WWE matches when he retired.

There was a time where he was told he would end up like Andre if he didn't get surgery to correct his condition (acromegaly). He chose the surgery, and it added years to his life. Andre chose not to get it, fearing that doing so would take away from his character. Unfortunately, as we all know, the final years of Andre's life were extremely painful for him.
