GOATS of WCW | Greatest Superstars
There was a period of time when World Championship Wrestling was the biggest and most popular wrestling company in the entire world. And even prior to that, when it was being overshadowed by the behemoth which was WWF, it was still considered the very best place by many who wanted to see a different style of pro wrestling than that which was being offered up in the fed. Of course, part of the reason it was so highly regarded over the years though was because of the excellent roster it had. But who were the best WCW wrestlers of all time? Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.

Did you guys really have to say "name redacted" for Chris Benoit? I get that he went out poorly in life, but man, separate his work from the tragedy, especially considering there is such a heavy chance that the tragedy was at least partly due to the incredible efforts he put inside the ring for our entertainment, taking some wild bumps and head trauma in the process. Its not as if he needs to be celebrated as a great humanitarian, but not even saying his name.... Also the more people do that, the more it feels like people shy away from the role that wrestling may have played in the head trauma and the possible impact that had on the nightmare event. It feels cold, dishonest, and just not something the channel about wrestling should do.

A future me, just watched some other mid-card performers in WCW, and I think another person who should be given more love is Kanyon. Good god, half of the stuff that he was doing in the 90s, pretty much every modern indie born wrestler now do. Yeah, the Blood Runs Cold story may have arrived to late to the party, but do it nowadays in a promotion like Lucha Underground, MLW, it would be the shit with Mortal Kombat being on the the best fighting game series. Who's Better Than Kanyon?

It was such a shame when Scott Steiner lost his ability to wrestle and was just muscles. Don't get me wrong, I was entertained as can be, however, his in-ring work before that was just incredible and often doesn't get enough mention. Many of the best that WCW had to offer though were the small guys that were left out of this list. Sure you had some huge guys, both physically and in terms of big names, and they dominated the main title scene but it was the little guys that were going out there and producing absolute bangers that were usually well and above what the main guys were capable of achieving. You had Rey Mysterio Jr. , Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, and many others I know I am forgetting that were doing all kinds of stuff that just wasn't seen in the main title cards. And not "name redacted". Chris Benoit, the Canadian Crippler, one of the greatest to ever lace up a pair of boots and enter the ring. Yes, on the personal side, it ended in tragedy, likely an outcome of years of taking terrible bumps, specifically head trauma, which was in part in an effort to entertain us, and we were. We couldn't get enough at the time, which is why he was so highly regarded. It feels like a disservice to just pretend he didn't exist. It cuts out the good he did for the sport and to entertain fans, and it cuts out the role that wrestling has such as head trauma, and the impacts that can have down the road. We like to be entertained by our wrestlers, our football players, etc. but the moment the outcomes aren't ideal, we wipe our hands of any role we may have played.

@@theshape3431 you say that as if you are making a point or contributing in some way. But you are correct, it is called the GOAT's of WCW, and then I mentioned some of the greatest that the WCW had to offer when I was watching. Is there an assumption that I am bashing the list or something? I am just mentioning some of the names that weren't mentioned that I think at least arguably could qualify as a WCW GOAT. I mentioned Scott Steiner not being recognized more for his earlier work, but that wasn't a dig at the video for including his muscular beast form. "name redacted" was the only dig I had. I feel as though if you're not comfortable with so much as acknowledging his name, then why even include clips or mention matches related to him, when there is a slew of stuff to reference without him, or, simple enough, just use his name. Its not like Candyman, saying his name won't bring him back.

They became much bigger in WWE, but they were already very well known. If Lex Luger, Sting, the Steiners and Flair aren't WCW guys because they started in Jim Crockett (which was just WCW before Turner bought it), then certainly guys who started & won titles in WCW weren't WWE guys either.

For me, the GOATs of WCW were Sting, Rey Mysterio, DDP, Eddie Guerrero, Sid Vicious, The Steiner Brothers, Lord Steven Regal, Ron Simmons and Ricky The Dragon Steamboat.

Sting, DDP, Ravens Flock & Vampiro were what kept me with WCW to the very end. The latter are far from the best ever but I enjoyed them the most.

I have to say...let's not forget how much of a champ player Jeff Jarrett was. Laying down for Hogan, then doing the job for Booker T in one of the best matches in WCW history in the same night. He's a GOAT, as well.

For me its Flair at one and Sting at two. If were adding NWA, maybe Flair and Dusty but Dusty was about done when WCW actually started. Hence, i go Sting as he became so synonymous with WCW.
