    I hope you don't just toss your old bearings. There are plenty of people who would be willing to put in the time clean and re-lube them, and especially old zealous should still be pretty good. Should make a great hand-me-down for the local groms.

    I got 3 sets of zealous and after a while they all get noisey when u spinn them, some more and some less. I clean mine properly and re lube them but the issue i had is that the bearing shell (the green round thing) tends to bend and then causing friction on to the balls of the bearing. Im tired of cleaning them on a regular basis. Now i just buy cheap bearings and replace them every 6-8 months. On aliexpress i found cheap built in bearings just like zealous for only 6 bucks a set. Does the job..

    Let me save you some time, this is one giant zealous add. Unless you're racing, fresh bearings aren't that important. I've ridden multiple sets of bearings in the rain and all they needed was some lube. Additionally, I've had some terrible sounding bearings roll fine for months. Let's not take someone's opinion as facts people!

    I like your channel but I don't agree with this video. I have run the same single set of both reds ceramics and swiss ceramics for the past 10 years. With regular cleaning they should maintain peak performance for years. And if you break up the price over that time it's not much per year at all. I just don't agree with throw away culture these days , people just need to take better care if their things. Just my 2 sense but it's easy to say when your getting free bearings. People shouldn't take product advise from sponsors videos

    This is great practical advice that most people need to hear. However, I must say that there are some relatively good value 608 bearings out from bearing companies that don't market to any skate industries. I have some hybrid bearings - Si3N4 black ceramic with stainless steel races - that are light, durable, and long spinning. I find that I got a bit more roll (carrying speed) out of them, but the to speed is exactly the same. The biggest thing is that you can clean and lube them multiple times over, but you must clean and lube them properly! However, for most people - not like me :D - your advice to chuck worn out ones and throw in some new ones is the most practical. Pro tip: used fully sealed bearings for the rain.

    Are your current bushings bad? Are they too stiff? Too squishy? Grab some orangatang nipples. Orange ones are the softest, purple is medium, and yellow is the hardest. I'm about 150-160 and I have the yellow nips. I like my board to be very reboundy, so I went for the harder ones. But, even with my kingpin as loose as it will go (the nut is literally only halfway on) its still pretty tight compared to other boards. They aren't too expensive, so it wouldn't even be unreasonable to pick up all three sets and see which one is the best for you. Experimenting is the only way to find your perfect setup.

    Great upload Crunchie... this is really important since there is so much hype and unnecessary money being spent here. My friends spend some good money on expensive bearings while i am using just some Bones reds and Spitfire cheapshots for a year and they ride smoother and quieter than everybody else's. The difference is just me as a good DIY guy, always take them apart, clean and lubricate with proper lubricants, they are always clean. Thats it.

    Regardless of price of the bearing, any reasonably made bearing, which is cleaned (properly) and regularly lubricated, will last longer than most skaters actual skating life. Skating well taken care of bearings does not wear out the bearing to any significant degree, and most, if not all bearing failures are due to lack of maintenance. Regularly replacing bearings is just frivolously wasteful and lazy. After 26 years of skating (and having better facial hair) I feel I have a right to contradict Crunchie on this one.

    I'm glad you are doing this. I've been free riding for a while now, and I recently got a drop deck board by Atom. It has ABEC 9 bearings that have been greased, and they work great. However I've been having a problem. It seems like the trucks have a tendency to vibrate and cause a speed wobble. It's as if my trucks have been loosened completely, and it's ruining my stability. I changed out the bushings for the ones on my older, more ridden board, and it rode just fine. I don't know if it's just that I am the cause of it since I'm used to riding softer freeride bushings, or if the others are just no good. Anyone have answers?

  • @mattm9621

    @mattm9621

    I mean no offense but the atom board as a complete is a entry level complete. You can't expect high precision tolerances from cheaper cast trucks. You could try to upgrade the pivot cups and stiffer bushings though it might help

I've purchased several other boards over the years, changed bearings, changed wheels. Still can't replicate that set up. I know the trucks (bullet), the wheels (oj 3), and from what I can find out Santa Cruz uses abce-3 beardings on their complete builds. I haven't bought them yet, so I don't know if that will be the missing link. Any thoughts?

    Right now my daily cruiser is running Bronson G3 bearings and Shark Wheels. To be fair though I just ride around town so experience may vary

    Old bearings are the best just clean and oil and they will last forever and continue to become faster and faster. Remove shields to clean.

    I clean my alternate bearings every 5-10 hours of riding. This allows me to buy one new set of decent bearings (i like bronson speeds) every year for hilling during the summer-fall while its gorgeous and dry out, and alternate between two other sets for "dry" and "wet" cruising. Since i live in a place that gets lots of snow and rain in the winter-spring theres almost always moisture or a metric fuckton of salt on the roads for half the year which combine to make even the nicest ceramics corrode like a pickle in a pussy. It takes a bit of practice but you can completely take apart bearings for cleaning if you really want to squeeze as much life out of them as possible but it can be dangerous if you dont do it properly. Even the tiniest bend or knick in the rings can nake your bearings seize then explode, causing you to pizza when you meant to french fry. Then youre gonna have a bad time. Really though he makes excellent points and if you can afford it just buy bearings more frequently. If you do clean and lube, avoid the crap that says it makes your bearings spin faster. It almost always overpriced and wont make you roll down a hill any quicker. Look for stuff that focuses on cleaning or mix something up yourself. Good lube is meant to grab onto the dirt/grime/rust, break it down, and use the centripetal force of the wheels spinning to sling it back out from where it came in. Im personal to a brand called skanunu because it was like 5$ for the bottle and a couple drops cleans bearings better than russian vodka cleans car engines. Also ive only gone through a third of the bottle in a year.

    Unloaded performance doesn't mean anything. They may not roll when the wheels are in the air, but once you're on your board spin like crazy ... Get on your board and try to see how they feel !

    Running zelous on my tan tien. So far best bearings, and I do clean mine but I'm very meticulous so I haven't had any issues. Triflow does the trick of keeping water out of the bearings so so far rain hasn't done any harm
