If I am doing a dual action only process I will go large throw. Short throw I like after using a rotary to correct and then finesse before going to da to finishRotary is still the king for gloss most times

Lads ya have to have a look at the Makita Da !! Switchable forced rotation!! Absolutely incredible !!

back in Dec, I picked up a 15mm Griot's and a Rupes 21mm. I can see where each can have its use. if I could only have one, I'd stick to my flex 3401. just my own personal preference. to each their own, I always say.

I have no plans to ever buy a Rupes. My Flex and PC combination can take care of anything I run into. If some paint really wants to be nasty, the rotary is quietly resting in my tool chest.

The 9227c is a Makita polisher guys, not a DeWalt. Still both great rotary polishers.

So satisfying to watch this it's like listening to Samuel L Jackson

The flex xc3401 is amazing. I use it almost everyday. I prefer the gear driven. Dont like the bog down of rupes. Been wondering about the long throw machines.

Great video! I have some Rupes tools, I found them used, and very, very reasonably priced. A couple Minis, and a couple Duettos. I use them with their pads and polishers, and I really like the system. That bring said, the Porter Cable 7424 and 7424xp can do everything I need. If I wasn't a "tool junky", I'd just use the 7424. I never have vibration issues, they're light, I can sand with them, compound, polish, wax... They're a great investment - specifically for the guy wanting to take care of his own vehicles. You can find them on Craigslist every once in a while for $50- $75.00, and they last forever. I had a Flex 3401, but I liked the PC more, and sold it.

***** - Absolutely, Junkman, I just picked up a really old 7424 - pre XP, and it performs just as nice as the XP I purchased new in 2011. You used it in the sanding video, where you removed the sanding marks with Meguiar's M01, and M02 on Orange Lake Country CCS pads. One of my favorite video series!

i use it too rotary + finish with 15mm, i like it

I love long throw polishers. I have Rupes 21 Mk2, 15 Mk2, Duetto and Mini. Next im gonna get rotary, extension bar's and small backing plates to work those super tight areas. I rather get full size rotary than ibrid. Im sure ibrid is great, but bit too expensive. Festool Shinex 150 or Flex PE 14-2 150? I think im going to get Festool :)

Is the basic Porter Cable considered short throw?

I have a rotary polisher also the standard Porter-Cable which I think is a 8 mm throw. My question to you guys is is there a big difference between the 15 and 21 throw polishers. Just would like to have all the tools in my Arsenal eventually. LOL since I have the Porter-Cable should I just go straight to the 21mm? I am just doing family and friends cars. I am not in a business. thanks for any advice

hey I will answer for you ..seems as though with a 21 you are more likly to heat the paint and leave marring or holograms compared to 15 ... so my next one is going to be 15-19 .. my griots sucks compared to harbor freight ( HF is was more powerful)

Get good with the rotary and you won't need anything else.

When talking about long throw polishers I guess I'm more curious about how you feel about 15 vs. 21 throws. Do you prefer using one over the other and why? What makes them smoother and easier to run and does that apply to both the 15 and 21 throws? Thanks guys!

I love the 15! Its the perfect size if your looking to buy only one polisher. I use the 21 more daily, but every time I use it I am quickly reminded of why its perfect.

I "Suppose" That If I Use a 15 mm DA Polisher I Can Have a Slow But a Better Result as I'm, Like Junkman, a Weekend Warrior ! But My Question Is : Can I Us Different Sizes of Plates For a 15 mm DA Polisher ? I Already Know, I Mean, "I Guess" The Difference Among The Various Types Of Pads (For Cut, Polish, Wax) But It's Not Cristal Clear If I Can or If I Should Use a 5 or a 6" Pad ! That's It By Now Gentlemen ! Thank You Very Much ! Best Regards !

Great video. Nice explanation of the polishers. FYI, rupes polishers are junk imo.

Dear Junkman I assume you are my teacher in Detailing! But if you try deeply the FLEX XFE7-15 long throw polisher you will definitely come and change this episode and say how much is the long throw can be used.

Hey Junkman, unless the DeWalt and Makita have the same part numbers, the 9227c is a Makita rotary. :)

For those experienced enough to use one, I highly recommend it. It is my go to polisher for pretty much every job I start that has never has a correction done before.

After heavy cutting with 7 inch rotary, which DA would be more suitable for finishing 21 or 15 mm?

I like my 3401 over my Rupes 15 for cut...

That's because they are two different class of polishers with the Flex being far superior for cutting. Add to that, it cost LESS.

Good info but people have a very short attention span. Would have been better to define long / short in the beginning then followed by the examples.

Hello, sir.... please why NOONE thalks about the HEAT??? if you really using 21mm throw polisher your will have seen the heat matter that they provides. not so much with the 15mm but still excists

I purchased the Flex 22D long throw after all the great reviews it seemed to work well but for the money the durability was lacking. I would not recommend this machine because after only 21 vehicles it totally failed parts flew it out every where.
