Long Run Archives #16 | Lululemon FURTHER Recap, Multi-Day Race Strategy, Ultrarunning Research

Спорт

Brett Hornig and Leah Yingling join Finn Melanson on the Singletrack Podcast to recap the Lululemon-backed FURTHER event which took place outside of Palm Spring, CA about a week ago.
It was equal parts interesting from performance, research, technology, marketing, and lifestyle standpoints and we touch on a lot of that in this episode through the lens of Leah’s experience logging 400 miles over the 6-day event and Brett helping crew her during that time frame.
Specifically, recap her race experience, talk about the multi-day race strategies she picked up over the 6 days, and learn about some of the ultrarunning related research that was conducted and when that will be available for public consumption.
No doubt many of you were glued to the live tracker for all the athletes out there, Mike McMonagle’s photo journalism, and some of the reporting from Outside and IRunFar. Hopefully, this episode adds another interesting angle to one of the more unique events we’ve seen in the running sphere in at least a few years.

I so enjoyed and got a lot out of this discussion. I followed the time and miles tracker during the event, but had no idea what was really going on. So this was great. Not to mention that a conversation between you three is always fun and enlightening. Like one of your listeners below, I, too, think it would have been interesting to have one or two older women in the line up, especially since so much of the project was about gathering lots and lots of data about women running a multi-day event.

Such a great episode! I really enjoyed it. The first thing that came to my mind was the human impact holistically on women in sport and the way the industry approaches it currently versus how Lululemon has done so with further. Secondly, there was so much data gathered and so much research to release it has to be an interesting moment in history of running and how it will impact the sport going forward. Kudos to you Leah and the other nine ladies who have gone beyond their own understanding of the distances they didn't think possible and to push further into the unknown. 🎉

Thanks for this podcast. other than the live tracker, I had almost no information about the event, maybe irunfar. Also, nothing about individual stories. I wish LuLu had chosen an older woman, like 65 yo. We still buy bras. ya know.

They missed entire demographics. It would have been great to have 50-80 year old. Ironic the oldest person actually ran the best and broke records…..I think Camille is the oldest?!)

Of the 10 women, 4 were in their 40s: Devon (41), Camille (42), Yoon Young (44) and Mirna (48), though I do agree that a more vast representation of ages would've made the initiative even more incredible. Thanks for the call out!

@@leahyingling5808 Thanks for your reply. Now that I'm 65 and still running, I know the difference. 40 is not old yet.
