my granny and her younger sister met after 52 years (1953-2005) and also met with her mother after 50 yrs (1953-2003) because granny's maternal family shifted to India from Bangladesh for political and communal turmoil. However, i was present at the time when they met after such long separation and burst into tears of happiness.Really it was tremendously heart touching moment!!

Wonderful story. I'm a fraternal twin to a brother and we were born in 1956 in Vancouver, Canada. It was only 2 weeks before we were born that our Mom learned she was pregnant with twins. Medicine wasn't in those days what it it is today but my Mom was happy to have twins as did her two other sisters who also had twins. And to carry on the tradition, my daughter had twins, a boy and girl. Sadly my twin died in 2001, with his ashes spread over a lake in the Canadian Rockie Mountains.

My mother found out only 4 weeks before we were born that she was having twins because the GP in the small town where she was in northern Ontario couldn't figure out why she was so large and sent her for an x-ray. An x-ray? My sister who worked as a sonography in Ottawa for 25 years still wonders why the doctors didn't hear 2 heart beats. I'm sorry about the loss of your brother. My 3 siblings are all still alive and healthy. I was 8 lb. and my brother was 8 lb 1 ounce and we were born vaginally a day past our due date. My mother was a smoker as well so she could pull anything off, I guess.

Very touching. I'm a fraternal twin, and sadly my brother died at birth. But I still feel his spirit in me. He and I are the same person. Watching this was very emotional and inspirational at the same time. But I am happy for these long-lost twins. They had their second chance, I look forward to having mine one day...

I am adopted, at the age of a few days. My parents, adoptive parents, never kept it a secret and explained it to me from my earliest abilities to understand the concept. By three, when they adopted a girl as well, I knew all about it. I think they absolutely did the right thing in being open about it to me and my sister. I have never really felt anything missing in my life. Now, at nearly 50, I still don't. I think knowing, from the start, put my mind at ease. It's the best approach any adoptive parents can and should take.

Agreed! I have two first cousins once removed who were adopted. It's never been a secret that their parents had to travel halfway around the world to get them, which of course lets them know how special they are. I also have a few second cousins who were adopted. In the case of one of them, after learning about his birth parents, he confirmed that he and his other half-sibling who were adopted out got the best deals of the bunch.

Wow this is a great story. I can relate to years believing I was born in June. It wasn't until I was 19 that I learnt I was 18. I found this out when I applied for my birth certificate. My adopted parents told so many lies to people. They messed around with our birth dates to fit in with their lies to people that we were their biological children. Yes my adopted brother went through the same difficulty when he applied for his birth certificate. They were abusive people. We were their meal tickets, slaves & things to parade in front of people. Behind closed doors it was horrific. They were sick people & wondered why we wanted nothing to do with them as we progressed into adults. The lies are the worse scars.

I found out I was adopted at 12. and my much older sister was the one who bore me! we were never close remained as siblings and she kind did the same to her other kids but for some dame reason got them back! to this day I only know one mum! and that's all I need! my mum passed away when I was a young teen! and pretty much was alone! but I survived and had the luck of my older siblings lending a hand till I got older and started a life of my own. my sister does not like to be bothered even after trying to be family but one can only get the door closed so many times. I don't hate her I feel bad for her because I would be a great friend/brother but oh well! such is life! glad it worked out for the both of you!

What cruelty,. Another thing, children should be told at a very early age that they have been adopted, in a style that’s childish, in fairytale fashion, graduating into a more acceptable truth... instead of waiting till the child goes through life thinking they are his birth parents and then lower the boom. Their trauma is far greater.

last year my grandmom and her sisters put their DNA on a website like this and found out they had an older sister who is 20 years older then them they never knew about. they were raised with a different father for their whole lives now in their 70s, (i say them bc they were twins but the Guy had passed away) pretty cool how things like this happen! but she only recently has asked about the family she does not seem very open to the idea that her father was not her father. but my grandmom did digging and their mother, My grandmoms dad and his first wife all went to the same highschool so its very possible they knew each other. when i was younger i heard my mom and my other grand mom talking and i think my grand mom gave a boy up for adoption so i hope i can put my DNA up one day and possibly find him if hes looking for our family, i would be his niece.
