I had a new ‘71 Duster 340 with auto transmission. It had 3:23 sure grip diff and E70x14 poly glass tires. I ran it bone stock at the strip and turned 14.02@100 m.p.h. in the 1/4 mile. I did have the speedometer reading 140 once but there is slippage in the tranny so it may have been optimistic. NHRA rated the 275 h.p. 340 @ 325 h.p. If memory serves me right. Lots of fun and beat lots of cars with bigger engines and more power on the street.

My first car was Identical to this car. Except mine was a 72 and had little orange stripes going up the middle of the hood. Also mine was a 318 with a three speed manual and an 8 3/4 3:23 gears. I put all 340 stuff on it and ran a cam dynamics cam. Double roller timing chain. Cyclone headers and 2 1/2” exhaust into the chrome Duster tail tips. I bought it at the age of 17 in 1976. Also my grill was a valiant grill. I did so much street racing in that car. I sure wish I had it back.

I have a 71 340 duster that I've owned since I was 17. I am now 60 years old. It has the shark tooth grill and it has 55 00 miles on the body. I got married bought a house and had a daughter so it has been sitting because I'm broke raising a family the wife wants me to get rid of it but if my daughter marries the rite man I will make their dreams come true couse I don't listen to the wife😁

I have the '70 Duster that my mom ad dad bought new. Most people bought Dusters were "heater and key" specials with a 225 and 3 speed. Not my dad. 318 with column shifted auto, light group, Rallye wheels, A/C, and disc brakes. EF8 Ivy Green Metallic with a green interior and black vinyl top. My mom drove it for probably 2 years without changing the oil, and the original 318 was really tired, so it now has a 360 that my dad built for it after he bought it back from my mom. Now that original cars are getting hard to find , E bodies are commanding stupid money, and B bodies aren't far behind, the A bodies are getting their due. In February of '70, Car and Driver got a 1/4 mile time of 14.39 testing it against a 289 Cobra that ran a 13.73 and a Chevelle SS 454 that ran a 13.81. And they bitched about how bad the shifter was.

You take a 1970 or 1971 Duster 340 and go with the optional factory 3.91 rear end gear ratio, and the car would fly out of the hole like a bat out of hell.

I bought a 70 Duster 340 in 1978 from the original owner. It had 63000 miles on it. He kept a record of every qt of oil and gallon of gas. It had a front bench seat with a somewhat rare 3speed on the floor. I hate to bust the bubble but the car with the black hood and 340 marking is actually a 1971. The hood gives it away and the grill was different. Still it brings back memories Mine was orange with a black k interior and top. By the way the first car in the video with the white interior was a 1970.

I owned a 70 Dart 340 Swinger that I bought from Harbor Dodge in Costa Mesa in 1974- just a wonderful car. I hit 140 out in New Mexico on a long straight highway. I routinely blew off Malibus and Mustangs and Road Runners. I loved that dash panel- just great memories.

I had a 1970 340 Duster 4 speed that I purchased years ago from the original owner. He purchased it in 1969. It was the first shipment of Dusters into Hawaii. He mentioned that guys constantly stopped him asking what kind of car it was. It was all original and untouched when I got it. I had trouble with the registration because it was registered as a 1969 model. Front fenders had Valiant emblems with Duster 340 decals with the same treatment as yours on the rear. I attempted to add a Sharktooth grille but the radiator support wouldn't clear the turn signals. Probably had early production Valiant radiator support. Good thing because I no longer have the car but still have a spare grille for my 1971 Duster. Now they make repo's. BTW, you have a absolutely beautiful car!

A little note here. The word "Wedge" on the V24 hood decal was actually white from the factory. Aftermarket decals could be white or red. An original Duster commercial for 1971 showed the decal as red, yet it was only white from the factory...strange but true!

I had this identical car. Actual 1971. Had a great time with it. Only difference is my exhaust came off the headers in 2 1/2” into flowmasters and came out a couple inches in front of the back tires. Was my first car I bought and owned at 14 as we could get a restricted drivers license and would have been year 1983. I tore up the road and raced anyone who challenged me. Had a positive rearend with 410’s. I didn’t get beat very often and especially by kids that were in my age group. Thanks for spurring some great memories!

My best friend in hi skool had an orange/black interior '72 Duster 340 4sp, sweet car! My grandpa was a Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge salesman from 1946-1977 down here in Georgia so I grew up loving those & for me it has always been MOPAR OR NO CAR! After my grandpa died in '83 I inherited his '74 Chrysler Newport 400 4bb then my dad in '89 left me his '72 Plymouth Fury II 318 2bbl l! My 1st car that I bought at 15 was a '72 red with black vinyl interior & vinyl top Plymouth Fury Grand Sport with the hideaway headlights & 360 4bbl, was in pretty good shape with just some oxidized paint that buffed out & I only paid $300 for it & drove it my sophomore year until a drunk driver ran a red light & T boned me & totaled it ✌💖☮

Amen. Who is good? E55 is definitely my favourite budget Giant Killer. The stock A833 equipped 1970 engine without headers could make 340 HP gross at 5500 rpm. The best Six Pack is line ball with it. Nick's Garage found something like 330 HP + gross from a 6 pack. With normal Hooker headers and a 4bbl carb change, and the good cam, in such light cars, pretty much the ultimate econo bash. Bye Bye heavier Boss Cleveland and " Whatever" Munitions Grade Big Block killer on a shoe string. But there were always some Really Stout sub 13 second Big Blocks available in 69 and 70.
