The reason why Love And Thunder was bad bcz the cast had too much fun on set. Marvel doesn’t do comic accurate stories bcz we would already know what’s to come next. Loki is set out of space and time.

I think Matt's off on his take: the show isn't titled "The TVA vs Loki" or "The Multiverse According to Loki"...it's just Loki. That's the focus. Him and his growth. That's it. That's all it needs to be.

Am I the only one who liked season2 more than season 1? I will say, I think Sylvie stopped being much of a character in season 2. Like I really think that she halted in terms of character development and the focus really just shifted to developing Loki which turned out to be amazing at the end, but Sylvie wasn't as interesting in season 2 as she was in season 1. Also, I'm a little mad that we never found out the true cause of Sylvie's nexus event.

  • @YungBenGriffey

I’m totally with you, I would’ve loved more from Sylvie this season but other than that I prefer S2 as a whole.. I think Voss at New Rockstars is correct in his theory of her nexus event: she was playing with Valkyrie toys and decided at that moment she wanted to be a hero (which means no Loki invasion of Earth and no Avengers).. whereas sacred timeline Loki needs to start off as a villain

I agree with you, season 2 was straight up fire, loki's development was in the last episode was crazy. And I also felt that Sylvie stopped developing, and yes I am also very interested in her nexus event, we really have no clues of how she messed up the timeline... I really loved that ending of sacrifice, it kinda resonated with me on a deeper level.... I don't know....

Not the only one. Many people liked it more. I agree there were issues like Sylvie character, pacing, some unresolved loose strings, but it was more impactful to Loki's developement and more fun. Marvel should simply cut this nonsense with only 6 episodes that don't even last full hour. Loki's change in season 1 was rushed and his character was sidelined, but in season 2 Sylvie was basically put away and many scenes that were needed were missing. Loved the show, it's my favourite, but at the same time I'm a bit annoyed, because I know it would have been even better with more screen time.

Not to mention, this is a SHOW, so the scale will be less in terms of story and budget. If they're given a movie budget and the freedom, the writers will do wonders on the plot. Multiverse is a concept that can easily diminish stakes but these writers proved that you can still have character moments that have stakes regardless, you just need to think that way. Some writers I think are also from the Rick and Morty team, so YESS, multiverse and unique concepts are in their skillset.

The fact that Loki attained what it had in that finale, I consider one of the best writing, directing and acting this universe has ever seen. And if it wasn't, show me what was. I experienced more in 90 seconds of no dialogue in the climax then I thought possible. And to be left with a sadness but a sense of completion is quite an amazing feat.

I don't want to hear that the MCU is dead. It hit a rough patch just like every era/phase did imo, this one just felt longer because we had more projects in that time span. The beginning of the post-endgame era was, arguably, one of the MCU's best (again imo) with Wandavision through No Way Home. Oh how we forget this. And even within the rough patch afterward, (a thousand imo's) Wakanda Forever and Guardians 3 were very good, with Ms. Marvel being decent. Multiverse of Madness, Hawkeye, Quantimanium, and especially Secret Invasion were indeed trash. I admittedly did not finish Moonight, so Idk about that one. But yes, the bad has hit an all time high. It's easy to see it as "dead" when the bad is that bad. But when you look at the whole, there is more good then bad. Just stop looking at only the now instead of the whole. Just like a good ending doesn't make a good movie (a philosophy I stand firm by, thus why I *shocker* don't care for Endgame) a few bad eggs doesn't make a bad franchise.

Moonknight was a gem, the bloodstone thing was really cool, multiverse of madness and quantumania are at least fun on a rewatch. You’re exactly right that the MCU films have dipped in quality before. Nobody seems to remember Thor 2 and iron man 3. Even a lot of phase 1 was kind of mid compared to the unique stories we’ve been getting lately.

This show gave us a good background on Kang and set up the new TVA to hunt his variants. As how this show connected to the overall multiverse saga, it laid the groundwork for Kang variants to be a threat. Ultimately, I agree with Colton that the show stands alone and feels more like a sci-fi/horror/ time travel show than a generic Marvel/super hero show. The only reason we, as an audience, care so much about the show being connected to the greater universe is that Marvel has announced so far in advance that Kang is the next big bad. If you ignore that story exists, you can actually care about the self-contained story of Loki and stop looking for more to it than the beautiful story that was written and the growth of arguably the MCU's greatest character.

Matt's entire argument for season 2 not being great boils down to "It wasn't what I wanted." This dude is your Editor in Chief? I thought reputable journalists had pretty much agreed to abide by a standard that you can't objectively call a piece of art or entertainment bad just because it isn't exactly where you wanted the story to go. Thank God Ryan and Colten have brains.

Matt had excellent points, and the show had a lot of fun designs, and Loki was done well for sure and had a great arc but the first season was much better at fleshing out the characters, and Sylvie was done incredibly dirty this season. You can want something to be better in regards to more than just one aspect, that’s still subjective. Take a step back and let’s not call a person brainless simply because they disagree with you. (I’m not calling Coulton brainless despite him thinking Marvels is just average Marvel when it, despite its problems, was interesting in its own right and had some excellent aspects to it in spite of being held back in others. Same was the case for Loki). Nothing is perfect and you should be less defensive when people criticize things you love and be open to seeing the flaws in good things

And tbh I don’t think he’s the best person to be on these vids. @@squidpoequo7747 I'm not saying season two was perfect, but rather Matt's criticisms very rarely ever focus on flaws that can and should actually be criticized. Instead he attacks really strange aspects of the project he's discussing, like in this instance where he... questions the motives of the the TVA agents and why they don't want the TVA destroyed? Or how about when he says that he didn't really see all that much character development for Loki? What in the world? Rewatching season two, you can see a lot of strange choices like the heavy focus on X5 early on only for his character to basically be discarded by the end of the season. Some of the dialogue and character introductions are clunky, there isn't as much interesting dialogue between characters as there was in season one, and while I love OB I think they kinda shoved the idea of an oroborous loop down our throats a little too hard. But Matt doesn't bring any of that up. All he cares about is that the show wasn't what he wanted it to be.

Put it like this, when the series first announced I thought they were reaching. I thought Loki had his arc and I wondered what could they possibly do with this character. I was so wrong, and from the first episode of season 1 I knew this would be different from anything the MCU produced. I am an aspiring writer and I used this series as both education and entertainment. How they managed to make a variant of a villain become one of the strongest heroes the MCU has is a masterpiece. The only other character that has had such a redemption arc is Anakin Skywalker under Dave Filoni’s guidance. Simply amazing and a perfect close to Tom Hiddleston’s performance. I would love a Loki season 3 but I don’t want them to water down this story arc, I’m perfectly okay with cameos of him and the TVA crew in other projects, we will rejoice when we spot them. The show runners should be in charge of Thor 5, in my opinion.

The Loki series is an example of how D+ should move forward with its shows - to flesh out and dive deeper into side characters introduced in the movies. They don’t have to set up the next big thing, they can be standalone stories that fit in the larger universe. Important that the character is introduced in the movie who then gets a side story, and not the other way around. I liked Moon Knight, and I look forward to Echo and Agatha, but for the general audience, no connections have been built with these characters for their shows to matter.

If you cut either season of Loki or Moon Knight into a 2.5 hour feature, it’s going to loose a lot, and it’s not like you could make Loki 4 movies and Moon Knight 2, because the narrative for each series is one cohesive piece that can barely survive getting cut into episodes on D+ much less movies with like years between the sections. I get what you’re saying: Loki and Moon Knight were good and you like them more than recent MCU cinematic offerings. But if Loki and Moon Knight were cinematic offerings, they wouldn’t be as good. Conversely, for example, if The Eternals had been a series, it might have had more time to breath and would have been a more cohesive narrative. Comic books are episodic. I know its a show that doesn't have the same budget as a movie would have. But they hardly showed what Loki's powers are. To be honest they hardly show Loki's powers in the movies as well. He possesses an innate aptitude for magic and sorcery. In the movie they always make him grab his 2 knives. Not cool. But that is my only complaint. Overall a well written show!!!

So some people talk about Secret Wars and Kang Dynasty as soft reboots but honestly we seem to already have that in the Loki ending. Before there was a Sacred Timeline and now there is a Sacred Tree of Life. Once there was only the Sacred Timeline version of say the Avengers movie, but now there can be seventy-eight different events of the Avengers movie, and its all happening somewhere. Meaning if they want to do a new Iron Man movie they can literally have it be anywhere they want, if they choose to do that. (not sure rebooting Iron Man, for example, is necessary, but with the whole multiverse element of it being a Tree its totally possible.) Also I have been hearing people go 'the Sacred Tree is what HWR wanted' and I don't see it, cause the Sacred Timeline was its own reality and that got destroyed and rebooted so he no longer has any say or authority or power. I also hear people saying 'oh Loki will loose in Avengers whatever and HWR/Doctor Doom will take over' and its like, 'but wasn't the point of all this to allow there to be free will and multiple projects and not some sort of failure state'. Anyway, all in all to me Loki was amazing and the end of the show was fantastic. Loki as the new God of Stories in charge of the Sacred Tree of Life is just marvelous.

What? Not perfect? The reason marvel is hurting is because of reviews expecting perfection. Loki season 2 was as close to perfect as anything done in marvel storytelling

The reason this second season comes off as mid is because didn't deliver on the promises made in the first half of its run, back when it was written like a movie. Why else would the Brad and Doc threads have a beginning and middle, but no payoff during the ending? Because they already chopped up the project into a mini-series, and most likely, the setup scenes shot. In short, this second season couldn't fully deliver on the Promise in the Premise, and so was defeated by the Muddle in its Middle.

I dont know about the gripes. I absolutely loved this season and this series for that matter. The ending was bittersweet because of the emotions thus made it perfect

Eh, it honestly feels like Matt projected his own wishes on it, and then became a hater when it wasn't what he wanted to read into it. I don't think that that's the best approach to reviewing something.

Loki did save MARVEL! We need to give Tom Hiddleston his roses NOW! Other than RDJ, he’s the best actor in the Marvel universe. Btw, I hope that Giah from Secret Invasion goes into the void and get picked up in the Thanoscopter and get choked out Loki style

The sad part of today's generation of fans is ppl want things too simple... i love the ever growing size ... we are at the birth of a universe .. rather different from Star Wars and Star Trek universe which have so much prehistory they now have to make shows about the past. I like the going forward nature of MCU

Loki is amazing. The finale was handled basically perfectly. Also, seeing Kate Bishop's silhouette in the Marvels made me starts hyperventilating. Can't wait to see your Young Avengers predictions!

I actually like that they connected the series to the larger Marvel multiverse in a vague way. Don't answering the question "how does it connect?" while keeping emphasis on the characters could be a very good thing down the line.
