Then Sylvie told him that everyone who works for the TVA are variants, he figured out they just don’t know. Making them laughing at him for being a variant ironic

I am hoping the third episode was a blip, because it wasn't good at all, failed on almost every level. It has gone so downhill since the first episode. They have made Loki into a fangirl version of his character, almost a parody of himself. The episode looked very cheap, and was mostly filler apart from pretty dire character building between the Loki's and a throwaway line about everyone in the TVA being variants. The Lokis go from killing each other to almost fucking kissing in 20 minutes, it was painful to watch. I am not sure what the hell is going on with Loki's powers? One minute hes way too underpowered and cant beat humans in a shop, next minute hes stopping buildings with telekinesis powers? What the fuck? I was perplexed, some saying he may have stolen the time stone to do it but, I am not sure that is the case considering to green glow and he'd surely have no idea how to use it? I am hoping it improves but that was just awful.. expectations have been lowered a lot

@@cunningflop I think it's less of a filler more of gate keeping information to make you want more. Certainly important character development episode so people grow to like Sylvia. I think with Marvel it will get explained, I mean they are doing it largely with the MCU, it just takes time. Power levels do scale across, for instance Wanda/Marvel change in power. Solid episode, it did many things right to push the story forward and create attachments.

Loki falling in love w himself is honestly the only thing that could ever make sense for his character

In the scene where Loki gets drunk, i think he morns his "future", and that he is the reason his mother dies. The song is about the longing of coming home after exploring. He sings this part in norwegian: In stormy black mountains, I wander all alone. Over the glaciers I make my path. In the apple medows the beautiful maiden stands... And shes singing, when are you coming home? It reflects his relationship with his Mother, she knew there was good in him. He wishes to see her again.

I don’t think Sylvie was raised by Odin much at all. There’s suggestion from the trailer for the next episode that the TVA arrested her as a child, so it may be that she was considered a variant and taken in in early childhood. I also suspect she WAS a TVA agent but somehow got free, realized what they did, and that’s her motivation to tear it down.

She didn't know that magic didn't work in TVA-ville, so likely not there as an adult. Her arrest teaser may be her taken in along with her parent(s), who were subsequently reset and creating Sylvie's revenge mojo. The TVA has stated that they get a lot of Loki's - I'm thinking Sylvie is actually the daughter of a Loki. ...the way the show is going, possibly the daughter to 2 Loki's.

If she was ‘indoctrinated’ as a TVA she may not have even HAD magic to use, so didn’t realize what she did wouldn’t work…or she forgot. She’s asgardian, who knows HOW old she could be, especially with the TVA

When Loki gets thrown out of the train he's still wearing his jacket, but afterwards it was gone. Wonder if that was a continuity error or did Loki do some shenanigans with the jacket and the Timepad...

The whole episode is Loki enchanting Sylvie to find out who she really is and her motivation. Loki studies apocalyptic events and would knowledge of them. He took her to a class 1 apocalypse so she feel hopeless and will share her secrets once she thinks she's going to die. It worked because he's already learned alot like the TVA are all Variants! I hope so at least because I haven't like dumb Loki they've be portraying, Loki is cleaver and usually several steps ahead!

Loki seems awfully calm over their situation. He's scheming something. Either he's managed to enchant Sylvie and is making their situation seem worse, or he's used illusion to fool her into believing the tablet thing is broken, when it's actually not and they can escape anytime. He likes stalling for time and finding out more. That's my theory anyway.

But I have a doubt there. If sylvie is also a variant, she would have been taken to the TVA as well. And she would have tried to use her powers then. In which case, she should already be aware that her powers won't work. Or may be there is some other angle to the whole thing.

Until we get more of her story we can assume she got the drop on the agents first sent after her and she beat and / or escaped them and thus avoided actually going to the TVA. She probably learned information about them through enchanting agents as well but it seems like she has to seek info out specifically and not like she just absorbs their entire life memories. So she would seek to learn how to use the pad or what reset charges are but probably wouldn't seek out does magic work here because she just assumed it would

Hi! I really love your channel, thank you so much! After I watched the third episode yesterday and your video on breakdown, I had an aha moment during my workout, lol. Additional disclaimer: I had not read any of the comics, ever, I am not reading Reddit except for orchids thread and/or any other fan's discussions, so my predictions are solely based on the latest movies and tv shows, therefore, please forgive me if I will write any nonsense. Also, English isn't my native language. Here it goes: 1. The entity behind Wanda's magic and Dark hold that she was reading is the same entity that's behind Time keepers, or it created Time keepers. 2. The TVA is not a separate dimension, but a humongous Hex like Wanda created. 3. This entity behind the time keepers is so powerful that it can create or absorb magic out of infinity stones, or give someone a source of magic, and for some reason it needs the TVA and Wanda's kids as well. I'd even say that Wanda heard her kids being captured by TVA agents and dragged into TVA as prisoners. 4. Agent Mobius will be most likely liberated when Lokis and possibly Wanda and Dr. Strange will take down TVA, and will be replacing Agent Coulson. It is even possible that he's a variant of Agent Coulson, or his or Nick Fury's agent partner who died (as you pointed out in 90s) and becomes a variant due to some sort of crazy mission related to some of the infinity stones and because of him being Agent of Shield in the past he is a lead agent in TVA. 5. I am not sure what to make of judge Renslayer, but I'd say she's the only one who is not a variant. I think she's sort of like Agata Harkness in Wanda's Hex, but she's also in a way under a spell or working with the entity that created the TVA hex. Why do I think TVA is a bigger Hex and not a universe in a different dimension: a. magic doesn't work there - so it must have some sort of "runes" or a higher, more powerful versions of them, like Agatha placed on the walls of her little purple/green house/cave where Wanda's magic couldn't work; b. infinity stones are useless there - two possibilities - either they loose their power because the time lines they came from are trimmed, therefore those are useless variants of the infinity stones/or the entity who created the TVA hex can at will absorb infinity stones powers and use that to feed its TVA hex. I arrived to this conclusion, because it bugged me, that it seems like the TVA wasn't magical, but more like they have a super advanced tech like Kree. And at the same time, no matter how powerful Wakanda's tech or Kree's tech, they usually can't really neutralize magic of a magnitude like Dr. Strange has. Also, I was confused how would one timeline go well with multiverse? And why would keeping the variants in this poket dimension would not be messing up the sacred timeline. But if TVA is a Hex, it would automatically be able to control people's mind, like remember, Wanda even didn't do anything special and people who were trapped in her Hex couldn't remember who they are and played a "role" for her. TVA being a Hex also explains why the agents aren't "allowed" to go into a history over a certain amount of time, they have some sort of time-meters, I forgot what they called, but they are powered by the magic of the entity that created the TVA Hex and possibly are contained in a tech like Wakanda's tech. 6. Regarding Lokis, I'd say there will be a second sacrifice of either our Loki (Tom H) or Sylvie/ or... when TVA will go down, we'll get two Lokis in the main timeline, because Sylvie may turn out to come not from Frost giants (blue with patterns) like our Loki is, but from a completely different type of species, like Heimdall (because he could do the mind meld with Thor, I think?). So, it's ok to have both of them. 7. I think Judge Renslayer will turn out to be like Wanda - a Nexus being, who is the only one in all universes, and she's neither good nor bad, but more like gray like Agatha or depending on the circumstances. 8. Regarding the entity that created this TVA Hex. I think it's going to be someone like Dormamu, but maybe even more powerful or smarter at least, or even above Dormamu. I think even the Antient one, didn't realize that she wasn't taking energy from Dormamu, but from this entity behind the Time Keepers, because otherwise, why would she drank the Kool-Aid of preserving the "Sacred timeline"? Or she possibly knew that if she doesn't preserve the "Sacred timeline" she could probably face other "Ancient ones" who may had have even more powers that she did. Now, I might be going to reach, but maybe if our Loki or Sylvie (Loki) will sacrifice themselves in this show, maybe Dr. Strange will come in and do the same trick he did in Endgame and look through 140000000000001 possibilities and find in which he can save both our Lokis or Wanda and Dr. Strange let them come from the past, like they allowed Nebula and Gomora from the past to be a part of this timeline. By the way, how come TVA didn't drag Gomora in there?! No, jk! If alternative Gomora and Nebula were ok, then we will surely get to keep Loki and Sylvie/Loki for ourselves. This is it. :) Sorry for the chaotic thought jumping.

It's seems to me like the last third of the movie (everything after Sylvie "falls asleep") is an enchantment fantasy, that the TemPad isn't really destroyed & that they haven't even left the train.

Agreed. There were several points made on the strength of a mind being the counter to her enchantments and when She sees Loki drinking alcohol as a method of relaxing, she took the opportunity to enchant his weakened mind. At the same time, earlier in episode 2 Loki explains his illusion powers which could also be a counter or failsafe for Sylvies powers. If Loki was smart, he would have made sylvie enchant one of his illusions/doppelgängers.

With how heavy a focus there was on Sylvies mind diving magic, I couldn’t help but be anxious about a big portion of this episode actually being an illusion that one of them is making. All in the effort to bring them closer or get some important information from the other

Love the series so far, but still confused. I understand there’s one timeline, and that other timelines can branch off from the main due to nexus events, but how does that explain their being different versions of different characters?

Or maybe Loki is manipulating female Loki. I think he knows how to get off of the planet. Bear in mind he managed to get to Earth after the events of Thor 1 without the bi-frost. He used secret portals that bind the nine realms together to travel. Remember he managed to travel to and from Jotunheim in secret, and not even Heimdall was able to see him. So yeah, I believe he can escape this planet. He just wants to know if female Loki can be trusted.

So I’m not 100% that the REAL time device is broken, because Loki himself didn’t seem as bothered by it as he should have. I think that was his way of kind of forcing her to open up about herself more, I’m a sense of thinking they had no other way back. Seeing if he can truly trust her! I think the hell reveal that next episode. Not to mention Tom Hiddleston himself said that episodes 3 & 4 were his favorite episodes! So I can’t wait!!!

The reset device looks like a focused version of what Wanda did to people in Westview. Reformat them physically and mentally.

I felt like the bit where Slyvie is talking about the brain freeze was hinting at what the timekeepers have done to the variants - keeping them in a mentally frozen state so they can't remember their original lives. All the variants who work in the TVA are in the middle of a timekeeper-induced brain freeze. When Sylvie first asks C-20 about the timekeeper's guards, C-20is just..??? like she doesn't know who the timekeepers are. At that point she doesn't, because Sylvie had to 'meet her' in a memory before the TVA happens to her. Also...I couldn't help noticing the little amber candle jar between them, how much it resembles the drink Mobius had in Renslayer's office and that they're both chonky lil amber vessels, just like the reset cartridges. Set/prop choices like this are always deliberate and I felt like it was a weird shot to have too when Mobius put the drink down - over the rings *he doesn't remember making*. He's drinking, C-20 is drinking... what they drink is keeping them frozen. This is probably why you see TVA people drinking obsolete brands - they're just what they always drank in their original timeline, it's a hint of their subcon. memory coming through. Also incidentally they're drinking orange cocktails in the bar (C-20 and Sylvie) which is the TVA signature colour also MISS Minute is literally a Minute Maid - a company who made it big selling FROZEN orange juice and she looks like an orange slice.

Don’t understand how people think it’s a filler episode we got character development for Lady Loki got to see a new planet and Apocalypse event and had some fun humour in there for me this was a great episode

I think Loki still has the timepad, he's trying to buy time to find out a little more about Sylvie and what she knows. Plus he wants the "better Loki" bragging rights. Hoping for a spin off and way more Sylvie and Loki. Love their interactions. The love talk is funny. Loki does love himself, but I think it's more of Loki never got a sibling relationship with Thor and he will with Sylvie. You think the end credit are shots of the Time Keepers' desk?

@@nessyness5447 yes but Thor was always the one in the spotlight and Thor never realized how Loki felt or saw how he was hurting…Thor was all about himself and winning battles. Loki never felt respected by Thor was and always looked at as Thor’s “little brother” instead of his own person. Different from Thor but not “less than” ..I think with Sylvie he has the connection of being variants of Loki and are very much alike.

I currently have 2 theories over what transpires during and at the end of the episode: 1. Perhaps Loki kept one of the infinity stones (maybe time or space stone), but he is trying to analyse or convert Sylvie, before resorting to use it. 2. The broken time pad was in fact an illusion, he still has it but he is actually trying to corner Sylvie to make her cooperate. Loki rarely does things without a larger plan (even if none of his plans ever comes to full fruition...), so I believe that he purposefully chose the dying planet, that offers no other means of escape to Sylvie, so that he can trap her there and coax her to cooperation or submission. His motivation is superficially to "prove he is the better Loki", but penultimately, I think that through her (and whether she will change or remain irredeemably "mischievous"), he is trying to see if it is possible for him to redeem himself, as he seems to be thinking about.

I think that at least part of that episode was in Loki's head. The episode starts with an elaborate illusion due to the agents high intelligence. Later, when Sylvie tries to mind-control Loki, he remarks that he's too smart for that. Then there's a moment where Sylvie actually talks about having to create more elaborate illusions for more intelligent people. That conversation felt like an "I see dead people" moment.

The two are a wonderful mediation on the dynamic between "nature" and "nurture." Loki (Tom version) never needed to maintain focus because he was surrounded by others who would do so instead. Sylvie, however, has apparently been on her own for much longer of her life. So it stands to reason that she developed more self-discipline over her own proclivities. Similarly, each developed different aspects of magic based on their different needs. Loki grew up inside a very structured world, so illusion was helpful to evade being controlled. In contrast, Sylvie seems to have been an outsider much longer, so enchanting to learn from (and control) those on the inside came in more handy.

My point is that the series can really explore the concepts of identity, choice, free will, determinism and chance in a highly engaging manner. I grew up on Miller's Daredevil, Moore's Watchmen, Claremont's X-men, etc. I had a hard time explaining to outsiders how much meaning and insight I found in those works of art (and that they were in fact works of art). What the MCU is doing today with productions like Loki feels very validating.

“Independence Authority Style” I want that on a T-shirt with a cool Loki helmet graphic in the background. Also, this makes me think about how they described Iron Man's character: “Genius, Billionaire, Playboy, Philanthropist”🔥

I theorize that the TVA agents aren't simply variants. They are variants of people who DO NOT EXIST in the "sacred" timeline. One thing that should be clear is that the time lizard wizards haven't finished buttoning up the timeline. As Mobius says "when they finish we'll all meet at the end of time in peace." This is the only reason variants still exist, because the job isn't finished, and they have a LONG way to go if they are still taking people from the 2000's on Earth . So it makes sense to me that there are a LOT of people who would end up not existing because their parents never got together because of the way the timeline was clipped. The time keepers or first tva members like Renslayer (whom I assume is not a variant) grabbed many of them to grow their numbers, and possibly many variants of the same person like multiple Mobius's. I also theorize that the middle Time Keeper is Kang (not a new theory) but that the reason it is Kang is because he already won his victory. And we are building up to Loki breaking the TVA, causing the multiverse to re ignite into existence, which leads to multiverse of madness, which Dr Strange will have to stabilize, which brings us to Ant Man Quantum-mania, where Kang is PISSED

I think Ravona Renslayer is the only TVA agent that's not a variant. I think her storyline will become extremely important in the next few episodes.

Were these scenes shot using the Volume / ILM set from The Mandalorian .. I can't help but think they were as the skies and backgrounds have a similar feel.

My favourite easter egg front this episode is that Tom Hiddleston actuslly learned Norwegian lyrics for the song he was singing on the train. Nicely done by him on the pronounciation!

Plot twist: Loki is enchanting Sylvie while she sleeps and creating a end of world scenario so she drops her guard and reveals her secrets.

Hey, Charlie! Just so you know, the Doctor Who theme was not played or recorded using a Theremin. Rather it was composed by Ron Grainger but realized by Delia Derbyshire of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop built up using musique concrète techniques by creating and mixing tape loops. Each note was individually created by cutting, splicing, speeding up and slowing down segments of analog tape containing recordings of a single plucked string, white noise, and the simple harmonic waveforms of test-tone oscillators. This was a LOT more work than just pulling out a Theremin.

I thought he had the device in one of his "magical pockets", because he had to summon it. So how could he fall on it and it breaks? It was not like he had it in his actual pant pocket.

This is a much more positive focused description of this episode than I've heard elsewhere - a lot of this episode was not very fun or enjoyable in my opinion, even though I wanted to like it. It was downright bizarre at times. - Lady Loki's mysterious allure was largely shattered instantly. Her character seemed kind of dumb and impulsive and not at all in line with the mastermind / dangerous character they've been building up. - The action scenes were largely terrible. - There is no consistency in terms of Loki & Lady Loki's powers and the people they fight. Loki can move a building but not really deal with train security? - Why did Loki start drinking and get thrown off the train? Why on earth would he do that? - The last sequence running through the city to get to the ark was largely uneventful, they just run in random directions and bounce off a few people - All this "I think it was all a trick by Loki" or "It's all Lady Loki's enchantment" is probably not going to be true - they would have had to reveal those by the end of this episode. It's not going to work across multiple episodes as nobody will remember - The episode suffered from a lack of Owen Wilson - The key story beat "TVA agents are variants" was just told by a character in an uninteresting way - We don't really learn anything of note about Lady Loki, she doesn't even seem like a Loki really

Sylvie is actually the daughter of another Loki variant, both captured by the TVA and she witnessed her father being reset. She was there as a child, somehow escaped, and has run from them "her entire life" while seeking revenge. She is a "Revenger". Since she was only there briefly as a child she did not learn about the magic-disabled setting. Loki grabs something from a front pocket just before chest-thrusting that tower. It would not be surprising if his daggers were not the only thing he grabbed at the TVA before tracking down Sylvie. He might even have a couple more TemPads up his sleeve. The TVA has a feeling of Sakaar with some Scarlet Witch style remodeling - wiped minds, locked in a retro theme.

Calling it now: Loki pocket a time stone when he was in the TVA and used it in this episode to "repel" that building. The entire scene was simply wayyy to suspicious. Loki didn't use any of his trademark green magic when doing it, for starters. Secondly, if you look closely at the base of the building you can see it's actually being completely fixed and put back together. If Loki was using his magic, he wouldn't have wasted his time and energy making sure the building perfectly remade itself, he would have just flung it out of the way. This also means that Loki will be able to use the time stone to not only fix the Tempad but reverse it's personal timestream to a point where it still had charge (and has been able to do so the entire time). This means Loki has actually been testing Sylvie all along to see if he can really trust her.

@@babygotback85 the infinity stones wont be main plot points in the movies anymore (like we wont see villains attempting to time travel and get them over and over again), but I still think the occasional one off use of them in a tv show would work, especially if it makes logical sense. (There's also leaked set photos of Doctor Strange having the time stone again in Multiverse of Madness. It could be a flashback scene, but it would also make sense that this variant of Loki somehow manages to get the stone to Strange after he's finished saving himself and Sylvie)

That's a big brain theory right there. Great work!

Small note: Loki wasn't trying to overtake Odin when he fell into the open sleep. It was an accident caused by Loki having an emo tantrum about his parentage and Odin already being on the brink of it. (Not terribly important, but in an early draft of the screenplay, Odin was starting to faze out before Thor's coronation, and that's the reason Thor was being crowned king.)

Possibly unrelated, but after Slyvie screams and has some small magic earthquake in this episode she says to Loki “you should try it sometime”...I wonder if we’ll see that come full circle.

Ok, what if EVERYONE at the TVA is a Loki? If they're recruiting variants and Mobius said that Lokis are the most variants they encounter, that plus the Loki title indicates there are way more Lokis than the current two we see in the series. Maybe? 😁
