Logo in HD RCA Selectavision CED VideoDisc Fanfare 2017

Ғылым және технология

This RCA Selectavision CED VideoDisc Fanfare version includes the video from my previous post, yet this one has digital noise reduction and reverb effects added. I also did something "funky" with the first half. I hope you enjoy it! I used Audacity to enhance the audio.

I'm amazed you managed to get a CED to play that long without skipping ;-)

It happens! I watched most of Charlotte's Web the other night and it played flawlessly until the 45 minute mark. So crazy.

I had a friend who purchased the original Pioneer laser disc player. It worked great! For about 3 months. It's the one that the laser driver board that would overheat and mess everything up. It had an actual industrial gas charged laser. I'd say that's why it was so expensive. Then it would get 3/4 of the way through a movie and start skipping, stuttering, then just stop playing. Such a horrid system that Pioneer rushed to the market. He paid a crapload of money for it too, and getting it worked on was a nightmare! He finally struck a deal with Pioneer and the store he purchased it from and traded it in on the newer model about a year or so later. The new model with the integrated laser. That one worked flawlessly, and he still has it!

@@databits It's funny because it seems like EVERYONE had Charotte's Web on CED! I know we did.

We must have been the only people with a CED player that did not have a skipping problem?

Very cool! I don't know why, but this is one of the best fanfares for any video-based intro I've seen. It still holds up today. Appreciate you sharing this.

Unfortunately for the UK market, we never got the 'fanfare' it just went straight to the film. The sound is purely an FM track, and it is really hit and miss on the quality. Just depends on the disk and stylus condition mostly

So sad what happened to the CED. This fanfare would have been a staple of movie night across the country, until pre-recorded VHS tapes got cheaper to buy. If only the labs hadn’t been trying to reinvent the wheel and had just used tried and true vinyl mastering and stamping technology.

I always thought that if RCA had had more time with the CED system that it could hvae reached almost-DVD quality (480i) one day.

More time? RCA took years to develop, so much that it was outdated when finally released. Costed them a fortune, just as developing the ntsc system. Watch technology connection, who made an in depth series on it.

RIP RCA destroyed by GE because of the insane levels of capitalism in the 80s!!!! if anyone has no idea what I am talking about google it. Really heart wrenching

RCA was on it's knees thanks to CEO Robert Sarnov going on a buying spree, snapping up Banquet frozen foods, Hertz rent-a-car and Carpet One.

@@hulavaultboy5935 yes RCA had lost a lot of money but by the time GE bought them they had billions in the bank and good revenue. The second GE bought them they took all the money in the bank and sold RCA piece by piece. thousands got laid off and it was a mess. Glad GE is about to die pretty soon as their stock is like 8 bucks today

@@tHeWasTeDYouTh With that information, it just seems GE only wanted RCA back just to get rid of them as competition. Shady business practices like that are why GE is circling the drain.
