    1/23/2018 @Odast As far as connecting the Z906 to my laptop using the supplied cable, which has the light green - orange - black plugs at each end, I plugged in the three to the woofer. The other end, I only plugged in the light green, as my HP Laptop has ONLY ONE AUDIO OUTPUT. My question is: Is that hookup, as I explained O.K., OR, would you or anyone else suggest getting a different cable for OPTIMAL SOUND quality? IF so, what cable should I purchase? Thank You.

  • @AJagtiani1

    @AJagtiani1

    i always prefer optical outputs. This may not be an option on a laptop. I would only plug in the green into both ends. otherwise you may get unintended signals into the woofer.

    I have Z5500 connected via digital and analog input to creative x-fi gamer. For music and movies only digital, so the sound is more crystal clear and in movies DTS & DD 5.1 is encoded. For games, sound is not encoded in DTS & DD 5.1 over optical. 5.1 for games can only be obtained over an analog connection! Therefore, both connections are needed for different scenarios!

    I'm confused...you mentioned to NOT use the optical out and to instead, use the digital out but I didn't think this system had a digital out, only the 3.5 and optical (or is it SPDIF?). I was going to use an HDMI convertor to run HDMI from my PC to the input, HDMI out to monitor and the SPDIF cable for audio. Would that work?

    I have a Sound Blaster PCIe card and my ASUS Maximus VII Hero motherboard also has an on-board sound card called a "SupremeFX." Both sound cards have digital optical ports as shown on the Z906 speaker system, and I want to test each card to find out which one sounds best for me. Should I use the digital option or the analog connections instead? Thanks.

    Hi, if I hook up my computer and TV to this system, does the TV have no sound if your playing music from your computer off this system? So if I want to play music off computer while still listening to TV, will your TV play sound back to the TV speakers as it originally was? Hope you understand question, wasn't sure how to address it.

    I know this video is a couple years old but I really need a reply to this comment cuz I'm in the process of getting a new 5.1 sound system. I know you mentioned using the analog ports on the sub as well as PC if our motherboard has a good audio card built into it. My motherboard does and also has a digital optical port (I'm using analog at the moment with my logitech x-540). Would using the digital output from my motherboards sound card make a big different? Now I know soundbars are the thing now and was wondering how this system would compare to a vizio SB3651. I haven't heard the the Z960 yet in person but heard a vizio sound bar in person and it was decent for the most part. My drawback from deciding which one to get is that I won't be able to mount both to my wall due to me renting an apartment. I like having my front speakers certain distances away at ear level for a theater like effect. With the vizio sound bar and Z960, I would only be able to sit them on my desk. Which product do you think is the best bang for the buck for sound quality?

    I have to disagree on the Digital Optical Output, because optical out can only push stereo PCM signal.However it can manage transmitting 5.1 through lossy codecs like DTS or Dolby Digtal.
