Logging DATA with MPVI STANDARD - AFR, LAMBDA, and MORE - Inputs Guide

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This covers a few methods to get data into your MPVI Standard using other PCM channels. In reality, any 5V sensor output can be input to the PCM and converted to data in your scanner, provided that you have the data sheet. This covers how to do it.

Thanks for the new video. When I removed my EGR equipment, I disabled the master EGR switch in the PCM. When I hooked up the FP sensor many years later, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting data.Don't forget to check the master EGR switch :)

I love the video. I appreciate these math formulas I noticed quite a few that you had in your user defind math. Would love to know how you populated them as well

Hey man Love your videos Please keep them coming! Just finished and LS swap in a square body and fine-tuning things. Also, can you make your vids downloadable. I don't have internet in my shop

thanks for the great video's you are a true teacher! I have one question that is hard to get a good answer to, if you wire up the wide band serial from the gauge to the laptop/scanner is the data the same or do i have to go thru the pcm, the only reason i'm trying to go serial is that the pcm is hidden up inside the dash behind the a/c evaporator. thanks again for all of your sharing of knowledge.

I've never worked with serial inputs as of yet. Some guys get them to work, and others I know can't seem to make it happen. Sorry if I'm not sure how to answer your question. You shouldn't need access to the PCM in order to add an input like I'm showing in this video. You just have to use any 5v sensor as the input, and so long as you know what sensors are what, it's not difficult to find one. Most use the EGR since most of the time it's removed anyway.

If i have to offset the wideband to read correctly in the scanner, should I do the same to get the Time graph to match the hystagram? Thanks for the videos, they've helped a ton.

I’m not sure I understand the question. The data conversion shouldn’t have anything to do with time. It’s simply voltage to usable numbers. That’s it. I’m not sure what you mean by time graph to match in the histogram. That shouldn’t really affect the signal conversion shown here no matter what graph it is.

@@ChopperDoc181, I went through your video and my math again. I had a parenthesis out of place and it was throwing my data off. Thanks again for all the videos, they've helped tons!

Hey Doc Thanks again for these videos. Quick question have you ever experimented with nitrous? If so, would you be able to make a video on it? Timing, AFR, jets size and methods for activating it? I have a turbo squarebody just wanting to experiment with it.

I do have a wealth of knowledge on it, but as of right now I do not intend to do a video quite yet. I want to put spray on my current build at some point, but I fear my ring gaps might be a little too tight for the shot I'm looking at lol. Most guys do a wet shot, and some add a water meth injection with it, or race fuel tank to activate and run in with the nitrous. As far as jet sizes, and all the other details, I would talk straight to the vendor on that. It's so specific that it's difficult for me to really say with certainty and point you in a particular direction. I'd say just start small and work up from there. Methods for activating all vary based on kit. There is a WOT switch on pretty much all of them, and a master arming switch. In addition to that, some run a ECT chop switch to pull timing, and some run a 2 BAR SD tune by adding 5V to the MAP sensor and using the 2nd "bar" area (it's a fake lol) for fueling. It's been quite a while since I had a car with a bottle, so I'm gonna stick only to what I know from buddies cars and what I've learned from other trusted builders, some of which are friends of mine too lol.

@@joshmarmolejo7980 Running a 427 Stroked LS3 with 11.8:1 compression, 4L80, and a ton of mods. Cam is a 244/252 114+4 @.050 with .633/.633 lift on Jesel 1.75 rockers. Car is pretty much only stock body at this point, but even that has been changing slowly as I chop things out and redo stuff lol. I have a video of it on my videos list, and a bunch of these videos actually end with clips of it. Also have a 05 Mustang that we've began modding (wife's car) slowly. Next is cams, but that's a need more than a want because it shit a rocker so that's my next project lol. I've built a ton of cars over the years, but got into tuning a few years back when I started building and got sick of the idea of not being able to do it myself. I learned almost everything through experience, because my setup was a pain in the ass to tune lol. From there I've tuned a number of other cars, and doing the friend special helping buddies install mods then going out and tuning them. Done lots of GM and Ford. Still just a dude in his garage though, that has a desire to learn and understand this stuff to an anatomical level lol. And my Camaro still isn't done, because once I have it running nice, I go ahead and change another part trying to dial in something else lol. I'm already on my third cam, and I also decked my heads again with the last cam install for shits and gigs. Then I went overseas and haven't got back to it. Next plan is standup radiator, and bumper revamp. I'm going to run my intake straight to the grille and fab everything, just so I can get the IAT's down. Should be like a $800 project, but I do plan to video it this time for others interested in doing something like that. That will be late next year before I get a chance to do it though, and of course it will need more tuning lol. Work comes first though, so in the meantime making these vids is how I stay fresh, and pick up new ideas too in the forums.

ChopperDoc181 That’s great too hear. I love hearing stories like that. I am an automotive instructor at a High School. We build alot of LS platforms here in TX. We have an in house dyno, cnc cutters, tig, mig and arc welders pretty much a full shop. I try to inspire my students to pursue careers in automotive and engineering. We are now getting into basic tuning material. If you are ever around El Paso TX let me know. I do not charge for dyno time or any of the services. We have a military base nearby FT Bliss in case you are ever stationed here. Here is my email: joshmarmolejo7@yahoo.com Email me and I will send you my number

@@joshmarmolejo7980 I've been to that area, and just had a buddy PCS there. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be headed back that way for quite some time, and my next gig won't be near enough to take advantage of that, otherwise I would in a heartbeat lol. I've actually been looking at dyno's, and some of the off brands are actually reasonable, and plenty good on reputation for me. Just need to find a forever home first, since my life is pretty much nomadic and has been for many years lol. This of course limits my time to work on my projects, since much of my free time goes to my family. That's pretty awesome that you guys have all of that stuff. I wish my school had half of that when I was growing up. It's also really cool that you are teaching tuning too. It's not only the future, it's the now and the last 20 years too lol. Hard to believe how time flies, but this is a great way to stay self sufficient when modding cars. I do miss the simplicity of the old SBC's, but I don't miss the lower horsepower. EFI is the way to go. I'll send you an email later, as I do enjoy talking shop with like minded folks. I'm in the middle east currently, so I have lots of time when I'm off duty.
