locking imported audio to the bars/beats grid in Pro Tools 8
Музыка
This video demonstrates how to get a piece of imported audio, like a song from a CD, to line up with protools bars and beats grid. This is very helpful when making remixes and mash-ups, or making your own "karaoke" version of the song, because any new MIDI tracks or audio loops you bring in will be in tempo with the original song. I use "Kids" by MGMT as an example. I made this video for my audio class at the Media arts collaborative charter school, in Albuquerque, NM

BEST tutorial I've seen that REALLY accurately (and simply) explains how to match an imported song to the grid. THANKS !
This is by far THE best video on this subject. Just a perfect presentation.

***** This is a big issue with PT, even later versions - less than eloquent in importing audio. Not much automatic with its elastic audio and you really have to go in and do it yourself most times.
helped me out a ton! Very clear and concise!
yo bro thanks a million, just something i wanted to do but didn't have a clue, now i have a clue and a half
Thanks alot man.. Real helpful video!!! Thank you :)

youre awesome
real helpful thank you .i imported a beat i made on my MPC Renaissance to PRO TOOLS but pro tools plays it back to fast and it doesn't allow me to change the tempo to what it should be at can you help.
Good tutorial. But by using elastic audio, you matched the audio to the grid instead of locking the grid to the audio, thus changing the original tempo of the imported song.

If you watch from about 4:06, I address this issue. I first adjust the tempo until the bars of the selected audio region almost perfectly match the bars of the grid (to within a percent or less) then only use elastic audio to make it match exactly. This will prevent any weird artifacts or audio degradation from the minimal time stretching while allowing for consistent looping and region duplication.
Hi can anyone help with this...my time line (in seconds) and bars/beats line are out of time with each other. i.e beat 1 of bar 1 does not start at 0 seconds. Not sure how i managed that one lol
This could be really helpful for some people especially if they aren’t taking their project too seriously. But this is not effective if u intend to keep the exact tempo from the original song unfortunately. Once u make that adjustment with elastic audio u alter the source track. It’s still a pretty clever way to make ends meet though..
Command+I and define the measures calculate the tempo of the original
You just changed the tempo of the original
