    Really nice video. The lesson from this is not only how to route effects but how to actually use them! Less is more!

    In this case, the Aux track the vocal is being routed to. We did this so we can automate the vocal level before it hit the compression and eq stage to get a more even, balanced signal. Having the audio signal hit the dynamics processors more evenly allows for more creative use of each processors "flavor" it adds to the audio signal path.

    Great observation! The VoxLd1 track is playing because of a feature called Solo Safe. If you hold down the Command Key (CNTRL for PC) and click on a Solo button, it puts it into Solo Safe mode. This means that track will not be "soft muted" when you solo another track.

    I dug the way you used the add track function to create and route the aux send/ return automatically. and if you want to feed more than just the original dry track to the fx chain you would feed the the sends section you just select the voxdelay1 or voxreverb1 or both via 2 sends to feed that vocal fx chain. One thing that would help your videos, would be to kill the room mic you are using and take a direct feed from PT, and give the listener a better A-B experience.

    Thanks for the clarification on some questions I had ringing around in my head. So how would you set this up also using an EQ, Gate and Compressor? And what about a second compressor like Maxim to really make the vocals stand out in a mix? Thanks!

  • @BeyondtheEndMetal
    @BeyondtheEndMetal13 жыл бұрын

    @calimusic2007 I to put eq and compression plugs directly on the channel as an insert..and to use sends for time-based effects like reverb and delay...maybe to parallel process some distortion...

    It all depends on the situation. If you've just processed an audio file via Audiosuite, you can undo the process. If you have closed the session and can no longer use the undo feature, you can go to the Clips list and drag the original file, before processing, back into the timeline.

    I mean that you take the main out or an other pair of out that you also routed the audio signal of pro tools out to and then loop it back in your interface so that you hear the sound of pro tools directly not through the monitors which are picked up by the microphone you are using. It gives a better sounding tutorial.

    Good video, so what was the purpose of the vxld1 mono aux?

  • @protoolsinstructor
    @protoolsinstructor13 жыл бұрын

    It's about context, and you are correct in that it is very "wet". I did not play any of the music tracks for the song and without them the vocal sounds very out of context.

    I am trying to use a USB microphone in Pro Tools 12. I am wanting to record vocals. What do I need to do in order to 1.) make this mic work in PT 12, and 2.) hear myself in my headphones while recording? THANK YOU. Also... Once I finally figure this out... I am going to have to use voice effects on my voice. (Auto tune, etc.) using the harmony engine plugin most likely. Will it be possible to hear these effects on my voice WHILE I am recording? Pretty much the reason I switched to pro tools from simple stuff like audacity and Sony.

    Very informative - valuable knowledge! Now - how does one take that vocal delay and use it on just certain events? Like, if the lyric goes, "I'm just O-Kay!", how do you put that delay (echo) on just the end of O-Kay ("-kay -kay-kay-..._) That's the secret sauce I need the recipe to! I believe it has to do with automation across that effect track. I've tried that with less than great results. Thanks to any and all who can help.

    hey how is it going? Can you tell me how can I take off an effect that has been processed from Audio Suite at the top and not just from the inserts to the track. Do you get what I'm saying? Im referring to the effects that you have to process from the top of the screen in the Audion Suite Section, Say like I process a Delay but dont want it but cant just go to the edit undo to undo it.

    Would you use the same AUX Send Reverb channel for vocal, guitar, bass, etc or should you create separate AUX channels for each one?

    Awsome! I have one problem. In some sessions I can create a new aux track by the NEW TRACK option. In other sessions, when I click on the new track option(aux track in order for the main and then fx from send), it becomes inactive. Therefore I have a "The output could not be made active bec. its mapped output is currently inactive". What is wrong? Do I have to pre set something? I do not remember doing something to the other sessions. Any ideas? Thanks.

    because in mono the lead vocal sits in the middle the fx has to be in stereo if u want to expand the fx to separate it from the vocal .

    basically you have control over how much the effect affects it.. (i think that is proper wording) You can tweak the effect itself, rather then tweaking the actual audio with an effect directly linked to it.. Make sense? You are tampering with the effect only.. and not the actual audio.
